The Raiders signed Maurice Jones-Drew to a three-year, $7.5 million deal, making him the favorite for lead-back duties ahead of Darren McFadden. DMC is the more talented runner at this stage of their respective careers, but he's obviously a massive injury risk. The Raiders upgraded their line by adding power blockers LT Penn and RG Austin Howard. They may want to run the ball at will, but an insanely tough schedule may prevent them from doing so at a high clip.

I think that was the plan last year as well. It just didn't play out very well due to execution and injuries (Valdheer). If an RB emerges that runs with the same vigor as Jennings did last year, if Penn returns to his 2011, and if Schaub can be effective enough to keep opponents from stacking the box, then this will be a good strategy. However that is 3 ifs, which doesn't bode well for their chances.

seems like a steal at this point for Reggie. You can't pry away a 4th rounder from teams outside of the draft, but when they want to make a move during the draft they will throw them out there.

I remember that, it's always funny when people try to speak definitively about their draft picks on the day of the draft. The book certainly hasn't been finished on the careers of Hayden & Watson vs Jordan yet and even if it were I would say at worst it was a push.

Jordan has 0 starts in 16 games, 19 tackles, 7 assists and 2 sacks on his career while Hayden has 2 starts in 8 games, 23 tackles, 3 assists and 1 int.

I know this bothers me more than most of you, but it's nothing short of an embarrassment that in 2014, we are still sharing a stadium with a baseball team. Good lord. High school teams don't have to play football on dirt infields. Total disgrace.

I'm with you 100%. It bothers me a lot and its a joke that the Raiders are still playing in that crappy stadium. Matter of fact I'm to the point that if Oakland is unable or unwilling to help build a new state of the art stadium I'm ready for the team to move to a city that is willing to help build a new stadium.

TOTALLY agree.

Having grown up as a Raider fan in NYC, I honestly don't care where they play. I just want them to play in a modern stadium without a dirt infield and with plumbing less than a century old.

Is it conventional wisdom that the A's lease renewal basically blocks a deal for the Raiders to stay in Oakland? Seems that way to me.

I'm a Raider fan from Nor Cal and would love for them to move out of that ####ty stadium into something worthy of a football team....anywhere.

I think you're preaching to the choir. Even a temporary rental situation in Santa Clara to buy us time to build Coliseum City over the existing O.o Coliseum is something Mark Davis should consider relenting on.

 
The greater L.A. area makes the most sense to me. There has been meaningful exploration of different sites in the L.A. area for a new stadium to lure a team back. It is mind boggling that the second biggest market in the country does not have an NFL team. There is still a huge fanbase in the L.A. area for the Raiders. It makes just as much sense to me as trying to build a new stadium in Nor Cal.

Oakland can not do anything financially. I think the city still owes money on that old beat down piece of poo even with two sports teams playing in it.... how that happens, I have no idea.

Plus, the Raiders have never been able to fill seats there. Even later 90's/early 00's when they were fielding good teams they still could not sell seats. I don't see any real reason to stay in the Bay Area and no real avenue to do it even if it did make sense.

I suspect that the organization is half way doing everything they can to win fan support on moving knowing that ultimately there is no real solution in the Bay Area. As a fan, you have to back their move just because they did everything they could not to move.

 
So.........Hayden did not have an ankle injury as they had said. He had a stress fracture in his foot and had surgery. Unreal.

Do you Raiduh fans see any value emerging as we head into the drafts?

I love teams that everyone overlooks in FF where there are coaches dreaming up schemes and plugging in players to rely upon where no one expetcs.

Can this happen in Oakland?

If I had to pick someone it would be Jones. Any thoughts on his prospects? I could see how Schaub could turn to him repeatedly.

Any other sleepers that Raiders fans are mining for?

I like Rivera over Ausberry. So tough to peg who will be the best WR of the group, but I think Holmes probably has the most upside.

 
I agree that Holmes has the biggest upside. Fantasy wise, I don't recall a Greg Olsen offense that has ever had relevant TE production. At this point I still like Streater to grossly out perform his ADP. Whoever wins the starting job at RB should have some fantasy relevancy---remember how Rashad Jennings produced at the end of last year? My early guess is MJD will win the job but it would not surprise me to see a dark horse like Murray or Streets claim the position.

I am skeptical that James Jones will produce at a level above a fringe WR3---as a long suffering Raider fan I hope I am wrong.

The Raiders WR situation seems like the biggest unknown group on any team in the NFL this season. Everyone has their favorite and there seems to be zero consensus.

Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie has compared first-round OLB Khalil Mack to Clay Matthews.

No pressure, kid. "He's one of those guys that knows how to set the edge, and he has length and power and some tools to rush the passer," McKenzie said of his first-rounder. "He's got that first step, he can bend, he's relentless." Although it's rarely a favor to compare a young player to an established star, McKenzie has every reason to be excited. Mack will be a threat for double-digit sacks as a rookie, and should be in the conversation for DROY.

Powerful moment seeing Ray Guy up on the podium recognized at the gold jacket dinner. Guy was one of my childhood heros, along with Cliff Branch, who I also think should be in the HOF. Very happy and proud of Guy.
