i earlier said this was best Duke team since 2004. I'll now go further and say since 2001.
First year I can remember where I wish college basketball didn't have a crazy 64 team single elimination playoff. We all want to see Kentucky-Duke and the odds of it happening are far too low.i earlier said this was best Duke team since 2004. I'll now go further and say since 2001.
Fixed that for ya.Good Lord UNC's schedule looks like a cheat grinder ahead.
Ahead, behind ... it's the most brutal schedule I've ever seen in college basketball. Or at least I don't remember anything like it. It's not even Xmas and they've played the Ken Pom #1, 14, 16, 38, 42, 49 and 66. And the craziest part- only one of them at home. And they've got 5 more left against the top 5 before reaching the postseason.Good Lord UNC's schedule looks like a meat grinder ahead.
The conference schedule does them no favors having to play L'ville and Duke twice. They did manage to make it through the tough part of the OOC schedule relatively well. Losing at home to Iowa is tough, but the other 2 losses don't look bad (neutral to Butler and @Kentucky). Open with Clemson to start ACC play then get ND and L'ville back to back games. Really though schedule that if they play well, will have them battle tested come tourney team. But I agree, this is a team that can probably have 12 losses or so and get in as long as they are the right 12 losses.Ahead, behind ... it's the most brutal schedule I've ever seen in college basketball. They should be good enough to notch 20+ wins, but out of morbid curiosity I'm kind of curious how low they could go and still make the tournament. 18-14, probably. Maybe 17-15.
20-12 would be a no-brainer regardless of the losses. It gets more interesting below that number. The conference schedule does them no favors having to play L'ville and Duke twice. This team reminds me alot of last year's. They seem to play to the level of their opponent. Same thing happened to start last season, beat the good teams, lost to crappy teams. Then conference play rolled around and they went on a nice winning streak to get things right. Could see something similar again this season. As the younger guys get more comfortable in their roles and Roy gets a rotation going, this team will improve.20-12 would be a no-brainer regardless of the losses. Shouldn't be an issue, though. The freshman are getting a little more comfortable, and the core of the team has already shown that they can win a decent number of games without taking threes. The weak bottom half of the ACC should get them over 20 no problem.
Eh, it was a little excessive but hardly a travesty. They're a wing shooter away from being on the second tier behind Kentucky/Duke. There was no way to predict that no freshman wing or improved upperclassmen would fill the role, leaving them probably towards the other end of the top 25 for most of the season. You don't expect a program like UNC to spend two straight seasons towards the bottom of the entire 350 team Division 1 in long range shooting, but here we are.Yeah. They'll won 20 for sure.
They're not a top 5 team (that pre season ranking was silly) but they're talented enough to make the tournament pretty easily
Captain Hindsight! The yahoo sports ap on my phone listed UNC as 8.5 point favorites last night. I thought that was complete insanity against the most efficient offensive team in the country. (I think they may be down to # 2 after last night)
I don't bet on sports, but I was pretty tempted last night. UNC never guards the 3 well.
Well it wasn't really hindsight because I told my brother about it yesterday at lunch (not that you care, nor should you)Captain Hindsight! The yahoo sports ap on my phone listed UNC as 8.5 point favorites last night. Seriously though- KenPom projections had it around the same margin, and before last night UNC was literally the best 3 Pt defense in Division 1 according to his numbers. Even after last night's barrage they're still 4th at 26.1%.
Yup, first in the country before yesterday, and still fourth. Unc was really the best 3 point defense in the nation? That's crazy. I just know it's something that roys teams have traditionally struggled with.

Multiple sources told @DavidGlennShow and @ACCSports the ACC is ending its relationship with controversial BB official Karl Hess. More soon.

He should have gotten the boot after he threw Corchiani and Gugliotta out of the stands a couple years back.
Probably Jamie Luckie. Another one who deserves to go...all this time, i though someone else was Karl Hess (ie, seeing photos of him in the articles today, and that's not the guy i thought Hess was). No idea what the name of the ref is that i'm picturing.
I wish they played all of their games that way.Good win for the Pack today![]()
Great confidence boost for the team. I'd love to see a repeat performance on Wednesday night.Congrats Wolfpack...gritty performance.
Gott deserved the signature win...just wished it wasn't on Duke.
I agree. he's so good its absurd. but State also had a great game plan for him today I thought. It was a good experience for him to go through. He looked very capable of dribbling out the double teams too. Kid can shoot, pass, dribble, rebound, block shots, he literally can do it all.pantherclub said:Great win pack
I was equally impressed with Okafor. That kid is probably the most impressive 18 year old since Lebron IMO.

I'd love to see it too! The Virginia game ended in disappointment, but they didn't let that happen today. I got really nervous when the 17 point lead got shaved to 7, but the Pack recharged and closed it out. It was great day at the wolves den!!meanjoegreen said:Great confidence boost for the team. For the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.

Long way to go. A win against UNC on Wednesday will go a long way towards showing this wasn't just a fluke.State's RPI was #45 before today's game. (And they had played the 9th toughest schedule in the country before today's game.)
Looking pretty good for getting into the dance.
Duke is broke. Maybe freshman wall? Better now than at the end of the season, hopefully there is time to fix this...but who knows. I didn't mind the State loss at all, they were just amazing that night, but this loss, at home, basically quitting in the 2nd half...it was a kick in the nuts.Duke is going down again. They've just totally lost whatever mojo they had going back before exams. They look awful on defense and okafor is missing bunnies.
