**2015 MLB Season Thread: This is how the chapter ends (4 Viewers)

Some dummies on Twitter were saying this was a boring game a few innings ago. If this is a boring game, don't bother watching another baseball game. Ever.

Xander was huge tonight. 5-9 on base, big double play, helps score winning run with a SB. Love it. GG Yanks.

The Ortiz steroid/bat speed comment just up and disappeared. I checked this and the Yankee thread. I love it. :lmao:
i saw it too. Whoever posted it deleted it after he hit the HR? That would be pretty a Francesa-ish thing to do.

Yesterday Brandon Crawford impressed me with a difficult play in the hole that he made look easy:

http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2015_04_10_sfnmlb_sdnmlb_1&mode=video&content_id=68146883&tcid=vpp_copy_68146883

Then I saw Simmons do his thing. It reminded me that guys like Crawford come around every so often and we appreciate them. But guys like Simmons come around once a generation. He's just... otherworldly.

insert hyperbole here > Re: Simmons - The size and range on him, coupled with that cannon, is going to make him the best any of us will ever see. Ozzie Smith, Omar Visquel types simply don't get to that ball, and if they do, they don't get the runner.

I know this won't last, but this is a fun team.

There's no way an offense can lose Justin Upton, Hayward, and Gattis* and get better, but in combination with losing BJ Upton and a half season of Uggla, maybe the offensive drop-off won't be catastrophic. Markakis in most lineups may not be a big help, but a boring vet bat that won't strikeout 25% of the time is quite a luxury in this Braves era.

The ####### Giants would probably find a way to win a title with this ####ty offense.

Not that this start has much to do with the offense, the kids and the bullpen are on fire right now and so far they've only had to dip into the 4th/5th starters once.

Either way, fun team and fun start. If anybody can get the backend of the rotation worked out, it's the Braves and they certainly have the pieces to swing a deal for a solid bat. The Braves making a WC push wouldn't be the craziest thing ever.

(*that'll make more sense when Gattis starts doing something other than striking out 60% of the time)

I really didn't think they'd be bad, Heyward played great defense but couldn't hit for ####. Upton was the best offensive player in the world for about 3 weeks in May and 3 weeks in August, but he was near-replacement level the rest of the season. Gattis, I love the guy and even have an el oso blanco shirt but we all know he was a one trick pony. Kimbrel is a stud, but I was shocked they gave him the extension last year. Closers aren't that valuable. In my mind, we got rid of two bad contracts in the last deal with the Padres.

Anyway, I'd be thrilled with 82 wins and I think that should be the goal. Hart should win exec of the year for what he's done. I know this team will come down to Earth, but it's nice to be a week in and everyone's already forgotten about what was traded away.

Visquel has no business being mentioned alongside Ozzie. Andrelton may prove to be in Ozzie's class, but he's certainly not there yet.

Let's see

Vizquel has 11 gold gloves to Ozzie's 13

Vizquel has 2 seasons with a fielding% above .990, Ozzie has none

Vizquel has a career fielding% of .985 to Ozzie's .978

Dwar numbers heavily favor Ozzie and rightfully so.

Vizquel was the best SS on the field for about 10 years after Ozzie retired.

While he might not be Ozzie, he's certainly worthy of being in the discussion when you're talking about best defensive SS.

You just cited fielding percentage and gold gloves. You lost.

It seems like Kruk and Schilling aren't exactly buddies. When they do a shot of the booth, they sit turned away from each other, and when one speaks, the other looks completely in the opposite direction.

Speaking of lost, you seem to be it again.

all of the evidence you cited clearly makes a great counterclaim.

When people said there were too many graphics on the screen last week when ESPN rolled out the K Zone and 90% of people hated it, ESPN responds by getting rid of the score and pitch count box for most of the game.

They are f'ing terrible.
