Cueto...

Was discussed on the radio today if Cinci would be better to package a monster contract with Cueto and get out from under it, given the declining return for rentals since the new CBA rules re:comp picks for traded free agents. Their suggestion was Cueto and Phillips to the Yankees, which of course being a Toronto broadcast led to dreaming on Cueto and Votto coming here, despite the fact the Jays already have a bunch of guys who can only play 1B/DH.

Cano the current worst contract in MLB?
depends on how you are defining it, but Verlander is probably close. Owed $140 for this year through 2019. I would guess that there is a better chance that Cano re-gains some semblance of his form.
In the first two years of his deal JV returned a 4.8 and a 2.8 WAR. Ryan Howard is a cumulitive -2.1 in his 4th year of a $125 mm contract. So one more decent JV year and nothing woukd still end up being a better deal than Howard. So that has to be the worst current contract in baseball, at least JV and Cano have a chance to recover.
Matt Cain's contract doesn't look too great either. Giants still owe him at least $60mm through 2017 and that's with a $7.5mm buyout for '18.

On JV I find it weird that people are so quick to forgive Cano all of a sudden because he has acid reflux. JV had core surgery before 2014 and is just returning this year from arm issues. Seems like recovering from core surgery might be a little tougher than getting over acid reflux, but I'm no doctor...
Sin Soo Choo looks about as bad as it gets. Little power, really bad in the field, and 0 steals in '15. Still owed north of $100mm. oof

Not really an OBP macheen anymore either. Really nothing to love.

Even God doesnt want all these Royals starting the AS Game
Royals are awesome. Their offense is much better than last years. Too bad they lost Shields but I still think they are for real with that bullpen and offense. ventura has to stay healthy.

In fairness, they are in the top half of the AL in runs scored this year after being bottom half last year, they've got a league average OPS+ after being worst in the AL last year, and they've moved up from last to next-to-last in home runs

Reds: Cueto, Chapman, Bruce
Not as big of names, but Brewers should be in the block: aramis Ramirez and Adam Lind maybe most notably.

This article on grantland shows biggest needs among contenders, by WAR. http://grantland.com/the-triangle/2015-mlb-contender-weaknesses-yankees-red-sox-orioles-blue-jays-astros-tigers-indians-royals-twins-angels-pirates-cardinals/

Miami and Colorado should probably sell, but not sure they will. Miami seems particularly stubborn, though maybe still Latos, Haren and Prado available.

Tulo maybe possible, but seem to have a lot of questions regarding his contract and other clubs' perceived value of him.

Yea I know...look at me.

But I just got my ticket for the Home Run Derby...section 129, less than half way up the first base line, about 20 rows up. I am so stoked for this event anyway with the new format and contestants...but now I can't wait!

I haven't been able to see Carlos Rodon pitch yet. What is it with the walks? Does he just lose focus?
Chase pitcher IMO. If he starts throwing more strikes the Ks go down. I like him OK as a Trevor Bauer type long term, but he's either going to be a whip killer or start to pitching more to contact. He has Sale on that team, but Sale still throws more strikes and gets his Ks because of a swing and miss rate that dwarfs Rodon.

Ah, gotcha...thx.

I disagree. Rodon has problems controlling his fastball. Once he get command of that, he will be Chris Sale Jr with his wipeout slider. He's young and was rushed

Tommy Kramer hit Ahmad Rashad for a last-second TD last night over the outstretched hands of Jimmy "SpiderMan" Allen.
Turned the game off late in the 4th quarter. Oops.
My social media presence was flooded with #VoteDozier themed messages as soon as his homer landed.

And of course...it's now raining like a mofo and expected to be at it's worst at exactly 8 PM. :kicksrock:

And Cincinnati. Only time it's been canceled previously was there in '88.

Can't remember the last time I watched the entire HR Derby. Thought the format worked great and was obviously helped by hometown hero dramatics.

The broadcast, however, was like something out of a High School AV club.

ESPN, desperate to show their little how far did it fly marker, missed countless swings of the bat. Completely incapable of keeping up with the pace the switch between cameras almost felt like There was a disconnect in the time. They also missed some action because MLB appeared to have no interest in waiting for ESPN to come out of commercial break before the next batter started.

There were also some odd / unannounced switches between Ravich and Berman.

And taking 2 minutes to mic up Junior had to have Berman steaming.

Hopefully gump gives us a rundown on how it was at the park. Can't imagine it being a letdown.

I was there and the place was electric. I've been at most of the big moments in that stadium, and I don't know if I've ever seen it like last night.

One of the weird dynamics was everyone telling us all day we would be cancelled and crazy thunderstorms all afternoon. From the minute the gates opened, perfect weather. 1140pm lightning storm. Amazing weather window.

Going tonight, should be fun.

For me, the MVP of last night's broadcast was Champ Pederson.

"I'm here with Joc Pederson's brother, Champ."

"Older brother."

"It must be tough to watch your brother go against your favorite player, Albert Pujols."

"My favorite player is Joc Pederson."

"Your favorite player when you were little, Albert Pujols, is favored against your brother in this round."

"Albert Pujols is a great player, but Joc Pederson has this in the bag."

"How will you feel if your favorite player, Albert Pujols, eliminates your brother here?"

"Stop pushing this bull#### narrative, Haircut. I appreciate everything Albert Pujols and his family have done for people with Down's Syndrome. I really do. But I'm here to watch Joc Pederson launch bombs all over this crackerjack box. Let's see your brother step into the box and dong it 450 to both gaps."

(I might have made up the fourth exchange of the interview.)

And then after the Pujols/Pederson round, Champ walked over to greet Pujols. Albert's face lit up when he spotted Champ, locked in on him, and reached out to hug him. Champ jumped up into Pujols's arms, wrapped his legs around him, and said something to him about Joc winning the round.

The crowd was totally into the whole Derby, but wow did they find an extra gear when Frazier hit.

Might have been hard to see in the stadium, but Frazier had a different repor with his pitcher than the others. For example, Pederson had his minor-league hitting instructor on the mound, and interacted with him like it was one of his coaches working with him on his swing. Frazier had one of his brothers on the mound, and was talking to him like he was his brother. Frazier kept pushing his brother to pick up the pace between pitches, yelling "THROW IT! THROW IT!" like they were kids in their backyard trying to sneak in a few more cuts before it got too dark. It was hilarious, human, and endearing.

Yeah, that was a pretty fun derby to watch. I'm guessing we'll see others go with the multiple balls in hand approach next year (NTTAWWT). There were a couple of times where I thought Frazier's brother was throwing before the ball landed, but they weren't calling it, so may as well throw it if you can get away with it.
