2015 Oakland Raiders Thread (4 Viewers)

Man, if Dupree falls much farther, I might call about trading up.

Not interested in Ray. 6'3", 240, and is really a one trick pony. Accumulated sacks when team was way up, and he has a good first step.

Gregory would be a specialist for us, but man, what a specialty. But it appears he is a major bonehead.

Hmm, Grady Jarrett wouldn't make me mad.

Dupree is falling further than I brought he would. Need him to fall 8-10 more spots to have the ammo to snipe him.

Looks like WRs are dropping. Eagles may go WR but I sense a defensive line run coming.

Wouldn't be surprised to see any of the following teams go DL

Cinci

Pitt

Det

Car

Balt

Dal

Den

Ind

GB

NO

NE

Car, Balt, maybe NO could go WR and of course other positions will go but, no WRs are dropping and it is looking like Oakland could have gotten a much higher quality WR at 2.3 than DL.

A lot of these guys don't fit the team, tho. Goldman,Phillips, Gregory, Ray....

Malcom Brown would be sexy, but he ain't dropping.

I'd give up a 2nd next year to move up this year for Dupree. I really like him.

He's a projection, tho. He really played 3-4 OLB last year. Not a sure thing, by any means. If we stay put and take Smith or Owa, I might like that just as much.

You know what, tho? 2nd and 3rd rounders are expected starters. Let the draft come to you, Reggie, just like last year. All the DL go? Draft Tomlinson or Cann and plow people over.

I wonder about Eric Rowe and Damarious Randall as well, they seem like Reggie picks.

I love the Amari Cooper pick by the Raiders. I had him and Williams 1A and 1B on my board. I was happy with either.

Cooper gives the Raiders the WR they haven't had since Tim Brown and Jerry Rice.

Lots of competition at WR now. Anybody else think Crabtree is gonna have to bust his ### to make the team now?

Now they need to improve the edge rush and more big uglies!!

ETA: Another RB to compete would be nice too.

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2015/04/28/cff-profile-grady-jarrett-di/ Grady Jarrett - Overview & StatsGrady Jarrett is a one-gapping 1-tech defensive tackle that will be best suited to a 4-3 defense where he will be able to cause havoc as a pass rusher and in the run game. Because of Jarrett’s style of play — always trying to penetrate — he was able to rack up stats in both the passing game and against the run game. When we look at just Power 5 opponents for all interior defenders, Jarrett was in the Top 5 in both Run Stop Percentage and Pass Rushing Productivity, the only other player who is inside the Top 10 of both was Stanford’s Henry Anderson.

When we look at Grady Jarrett’s stats compared to or other top of the crop interior D-lineman, we see a player who compares favorably with all of the top players in the class. Each of the four players play vastly different roles so we must take that into consideration before taking these stats out of context. But it does show that Jarrett has the ability to be three-down player and not just limited to playing the run.

The TapeBecause Jarrett lacks the ideal measurables for a 1-tech DT he often gets overlooked as one of the best in the class. But when you watch Jarrett play you see his physical size (6-foot-1 304 pounds) is not a major issue, in fact, it allows him to be the low man and win with leverage. His physical limitations does mean he will struggle to two-gap and keep control and then shed, but because of that he has learned to play as the low man who penetrates into the backfield. While Jarrett isn’t the ideal fit for every team, one looking for his type could be getting a steal.

CFF-profiles-inset-jarrett-225x300.png
Jarrett is at his best is when he can play an attacking style, and while that might often mean he’s out of position, he’s able to keep his gap responsibility while causing havoc on the other side of the line of scrimmage and he’s not a liability when he is double-teamed.

Against Georgia (Q3 12:12) he absorbed the hit of the guard and prevented the center from taking over the block, allowing Jarrett to make the play on the ball-carrier. This play in particular was an impressive display and he’s shown the ability to beat blocks in multiple ways — with power, with his hands, and with explosion off the ball.

Even through Jarrett might not have the ideal height and size, the rest of his numbers show how he plays. Jarrett is very good first-step quickness that makes him a tough block on reaches, since he is a step further up field than the majority of the defensive tackles. When Jarrett is rushing the passer, his quickness 45% of his pressures came when Jarrett attacks the outside shoulder of the guard, where he can use his greatest assets (speed and hands) to his advantage and leave the guard in a difficult position to defend.

Where draft observers have trouble with Jarrett is with him being shorter than the average defensive tackle in the NFL. This is how some prospects are overlooked; Jarrett is the same height as Geno Atkins who plays the 3-technique rather than a 1, but regardless plays in a similar way to Jarrett: attacking from the snap and being able to use his lack of height as an advantage. Since his height is the only part of his game that is an issue, I see no reason why he shouldn’t be one of the top interior defensive lineman taken this year.

Happy with the Cooper pick. Everyone thinks they will go with a DL of some sort but Landon Collins has to be tempting at this point.

What is the knock on Gregory? I thought I remember him being talked about being a top 20 guy not too long ago.
All kinds of knocks on Gregory:

  • Came to combine at 235, after I am sure desperately looking to put on weight. at 6'5", he's a skinny dude.
  • Failed drug tests, including the intelligence tests at the combine
  • Lied to NFL teams-said the last time he smoked was November
  • there were rumors before the draft about 'other' issues, that people didn't want to say out loud--that means really bad, bad enough tey didn't want to say it.
  • He's the best pass rusher in the draft, he really is. The fact he is still there is a very LOUD message. The NFL knows something we don't.

Ah yes, he failed his drug test. Forgot that was him. And sounds like more red flags too.

Lot of players that can fit the team, if Reggie can add a 4th by trading down, you know he'll think about it.

Agholor and Dorsett went in the 1st. No lie, I like the DEs here more than the WRs available. Makes Cooper look pretty good to Leo-lovers like myself.

It sounds like La'el Collins is not a suspect. It would still be a big roll of the dice but what a boost to our O-line to take him in the second.

Many teams have taken him completely off their board. He is not a suspect......right now. With their stance on domestic violence I feel pretty comfortable saying the Raiders would not consider drafting him in any round. If he is completely innocent this is, of course, unfair, but it is what it is.

I feel bad for Collins if he's not involved, and no reason to think he is at the moment, but the horrible person inside of me thinks: Pregnant Ex, OT about to get paid, baby mama gonna hold him up for money, Rae Carruth, murder-for-hire, alibi taken care of........

But I have a suspicious mind.

Hope he he had nothing to do with it, doesn't get drafted, and either signs with someone late, gets paid earlier than other rookies, or enters the draft next year, and goes in the first.

How far down would you trade?

We could move down 2-7 spots, and it's worth a 4th (roughly).

We could move down more, 8+ spots, and we getting into 3rd rounders, or 4th + 5th rounders.

P. Smith

Odighizuwa

Clemmings

Rowe

Maxx Williams

Donovan Smith

Cann

Gregory

Kendricks

Darby

Landon Collins

Not to mention players that are gonna go quick that I am guessing don't fit the scheme/need:

Goldman

Carl Davis

Jordan Phillips

McKinney

Fisher

Devin Smith

I want the DE, but I wonder if a Clemmings or Gregory is worth a 3rd to someone.

This draft could be great. I am assuming that at least one of the D players left is high on the Raiders list. Could be Landon Collins, Rowe, or Smith. If the Raiders are really high on one of those guys, they are not going to fool around and trade back a few spots. No need to take chances when your team desperately needs talent.

Getting immediate starters with your picks from rounds 1 and 2 is how winning teams are built.

If they are looking interior penetrator I prefer Michael Bennett to Jarrett.

Updated top 3 wish list:

Mario Edwards Jr.

T. J. Clemmings

Landon Collins

edit: got Kendricks stuck on the brain but meant Collins

NFLN reporter at TEN mentioned Green-Beckham.

The one at TB mentioned Eric Fisher, and OL in general.

That's nothing but good news.

Nice list. I have a three man short list, and it's all DB's.

Collins, the safety from Alabama. Wouldn't that be something? Cooper reunited with his college teammate?

or...corners Rowe or Darby

..and I could definitely squeeze Clemmings onto my short list. He's a beast.

@nfldraftscout: Couple things I'm hearing: Bucs likely to go OT, don't rule out another WR for the Raiders, 49ers looking at secondary players.

If true, we are in prime position to scoop up Strong, who probably fell over his medicals. Cooper and Strong income draft could skyrocket Carr's production overnight.
