2015 Oakland Raiders Thread (1 Viewer)

For a regular season dress rehearsal, I think JDR is playing it very safe with Carr. I know his YPA criticism is a valid one. But I think I'll give him a pass tonight.

Since when is losing Watson and Streater a bad thing? It's not like either of them has ever done anything on the NFL level.

Things I am learning tonight:

1) It looks like Arians is going to use the hell out of Ellington until he breaks.

2) John Brown is the real deal.

3) Larry Fitzgerald is criminally underrated and will be a huge value as long as Palmer is healthy.

4) The Raiders will occasionally surprise but otherwise expect the status quo.

I would say the defense is draft able in most fantasy leagues if I didn't think the offense is going to be bottom five in time of possession.

I'll believe it when they finally refuse to let Manning dink and dunk them to death 12 yards at a time.

@RaidersBeat: "If I were Bruce Arians I would not have my quarterback in the game. They cannot block Khalil Mack." - Cris Collinsworth on NBC broadcast.

Mack is a stud.

Cooper is a stud.

Carr has been off this game.

Excited about the defense. It should fare well against the rush and had a decent pass rush.

Carr pump faking on a screen pass leads to a pick 6. Brutal. He can't be making those types of decisions. Backside screens have not been pretty tonight even when they do work.

It's probably wrong and premature and delusional and likely indicates that I am off my meds but I am becoming increasingly optimistic about drafting Raiders at fantasy skill positions.

Is it crazy to think Carr could finish close to QB 1 value (my league is super flex) or Murray the same as a RB? Cooper keeps landing as a WR 2 on my boards AND SO DOES CRABTREE (well he comes close)!!!

WTH?!?!? These are Raiders. When did I land in Bizarro World? Or is it the 70s again and no one told me?
Yeah, okay...never mind.

We really have to do something about respecting hallowed numbers in the organization. I can't complain too much about Atkinson getting Bo Jackson's number. Bo was idolized by many of us, but let's be fair... he's not a Hall of Famer. But now there is some SCRUB wearing Howie Long's #75 in the final 2:00 of a preseason game. And don't even get me started on the Raiders giving Snake Stabler's #12 to Todd Marinovich and DHB. Disgraceful

@MenelikWatson: Ruptured Achilles' tendon... I Will be back stronger than ever that's a promise. Main thing is supporting the team right now. #RaiderNation

Updating a previous item, Raiders RT Menelik Watson is done for the year with a torn Achilles' tendon.
It was originally announced as an ankle injury. The Raiders will turn to 2014 free agent flop Austin Howard at right tackle, with J'Marcus Webb manning the starting position at right guard. It's a downgrade for Oakland's offensive line from an athleticism standpoint. Watson was having a strong training camp.

The good news is that Mack looks like he is going to be even better than last season. He legitimately looks like he is in the conversation to lead the league in sacks in any given season.

Also Amari Cooper seems pretty clearly to be the real deal. Rookie of the year front runner and should be a solid PPR guy right out of the gate.

Other than that the team still looks like a dumpster fire.

I expect the Raider D to be improved this year. Wishful thinking?
Not at all from a talent perspective but you can only be so good on defense when your offense is bottom five in scoring and time of possession and I don't see any indication that the Raider offense is going to be any better than that.

Carr needs to show more because I am still seeing the same dink and dunk timid Charlie Checkdown play that he demonstrated last year. That isn't going to cut it.

I don't think the issue is so much he is check down Charlie, but rather his lack accuracy for the longer passes. That is very concerning, and will limit the offense if it doesn't get cleaned up.

The defense has been playing light years ahead of LY. Stout run defense, and thanks to Mack a strong pass rush that will help the secondary.

Appreciate your candor, but this is dead wrong.
Other than Cooper what has the offense shown to suggest any kind of significant leap forward this year?
Improvements across the board at the skill positions (including the young franchise QB no longer being a rook, a full year of a real starting RB, and all new, much better wideouts), and to the line.

And and out-of-division schedule that went from: Jets, Texans, Pats, Dolphins, Cards, Browns, Seahawks, Rams, Niners, Bills

to: Bengals, Ravens, Browns, Bears, Jets, Steelers, Vikings, Lions, Titans, Pack

On a difficulty scale of 1 to 100 in terms of the defenses they have to face, I'd say that went from about a 95 to a 30.
