2015 Oakland Raiders Thread (1 Viewer)

Not surprising. Hip surgery is tricky and Sio didn't look close to being ready in mini-camp. Wouldn't surprise to see him start the season on the PUP. Malcolm Smith and Ray Ray Armstrong will be key players to watch.

Hmmm is he cut out for that? Seems to me that's a role for a light/speed guy like Mack. Edwards would be better suited for a Lamar Houston type role at LDE and reducing inside for pass rush.

Never liked Crabtree for his antics during the draft back in 2009, but I never doubted his ability to fill the James Jones void as a solids possession receiver. Drafted him late as my WR6 on a start 5 WR lineup in PPR. I feel like my roster is loaded for bear.

Asked about Trent Richardson’s chances of making #Raiders: 50%, I’m told. Besides Latavius Murray, competition with Roy Helu & Michael Dyer

Very favorable and reasonable odds. He will have to make splash plays in preseason games and practices or get cut. Won't get away with the level of performance he's had in recent years. If he's cut, nobody to point the finger at but himself.

(Rotoworld)Raiders coach Jack Del Rio said Sunday that undrafted rookie RB Michael Dyer has "jumped out" early in training camp.

Analysis: A former five-star high school recruit, Dyer dominated as a true freshman on Auburn's national champion team before oddly bouncing around schools and ending up at Louisville, where he was a backup last year. Dyer does have talent and size (5'9/218), and the depth chart in Oakland is far from proven or established. Dyer is a deep sleeper to monitor, especially in Dynasty leagues.

Seeing chatter about Tony McDaniel for Oakland, but it sure seems like he was mainly a run-stuffer in SEA.

With Dan Williams and Jelly, not sure it's a fit.

Not too crazy about sharing a stadium with the Chargers, would much rather share the Rams. But the city of Oakland and its fan base are stuck in the denial stage of grief. It's sad.

Since I don't follow the Raiders all that closely, I figured I'd ask those closer to the source. Why do fantasy peeps seem down on Latavius? Not "down" in the sense that he's going to be bad, but I've seen him ranked pretty low in a lot of different places. Seems to me he's going to get a lions share of the touches, and has decent enough hands/good size to get passing work as well. Why does he seems to get pushed aside for guys like Melvin Gordon (good, but unproven and Woodhead still lingering), etc?

Everything I've read (improved O-line, better passing attack) seem to point to a good RB2 with RB1 upside for Latavius this year. What am I missing?

Helu will probably play on third/passing downs which limits Murray some and the Raiders have been reluctant to commit to him so far (different coaching staff though). The upside is definitely there though.

I am pretty sure the Oakland coaching staff is all in on Murray. From what I have read he has been running with the ones all off season and all throughout training camp. They have him tabbed for a heavy workload.

However I think there are a lot of reasons why the fantasy world is down on him: 1) He has a very limited track record, he has all of 99 touches in the NFL so he is still a bit of an unknown 2) He doesn't have nearly the college pedigree of a guy like Gordon. He but up a nice YPC but was never really a bell cow at Central Florida 3) He seems to get dinged up quite a bit. He has missed game time every season (college and pro) due to injuries 4) He is the tallest RB in the NFL (6'3") and from what I have read he does not really get small when approaching contact which people believe makes him more susceptible to injury (something that fits with point 3 very well) 5) As Icon said, while Murray can catch pretty well but Helu has a natural gift in that department so it is reasonable to assume that Helu will cap Murray's receptions somewhere in the 20s, maybe 30s if the offense doesn't entirely suck 6) Speaking of the offense the Raiders are still the Raiders. Despite looking to be much improved on paper, it's just on paper. People are understandably skeptical that Oakland will continue to be what Oakland has been for the past decade.

Ground attack: Latavius running away with itSince camp started, all Latavius Murray has done is distance himself from the rest of the running backs as the runaway feature back. Certainly it hasn't helped Roy Helu or Trent Richardson that they have been out large portions of camp, but even when on the field, Murray is head and shoulders the best running back on the field. Today he took a handoff, went left, momentarily surveyed the line, saw his crease open through the left guard gap (of course) and shot through it for a good 15 yards before anyone had a shot to tackle him. These kinds of runs happen probably every practice for Murray.

Meanwhile, Trent Richardson, who is supposed to be his primary competition, still can't seem to get more than a couple yards past the line of scrimmage, Helu isn't practicing, and Michael Dyer and Taiwan Jones are battling for the remaining running back spot.

Yes it is preseason and we have a very small sample size but i have chills and they're multiplying

and my timing is impeccable

Remember last preseason? The starting defense gave up a td in every possession. The fact that the defense put up resistance this game was at least hopeful. The offensive showing was a bonus!

Play design and play calling on O seemed much improved over last year. Defense appeared to understand where they needed to be. 57 over pursued on the Austin play and Carrie could have picked the fade to Cook in the endzone but played the man well. Were the few things that stood out to me

Very encouraging first couple of drives. That OL was dominating. Murray looked good, mostly just by getting what the line created and not overthinking it.

Greatest nickname of the night goes to Ellis and Williams: Meat and Potatoes.

4.8 YPA for Carr. Yeah I know it's the first preseason game blahblahblah but I really, really don't like that.

Don't give a second thought to the low YPA for Carr. Too much was made of that last year as it is.

That was the worst set of weapons in the league, and as terrible as they were, they were even worse at YAC'ing. Their unquestioned YAC superstar was McFadden, who was 67th in the league. One other guy on the team cracked the top 100. Barely. He had nobody who could do anything with the ball, anywhere on the field, except for the handful of plays Murray was on the field.

Just by virtue of having something resembling a varsity OC, together with radically improved targets at almost every position, that number's coming way up this season.
