2015 Oakland Raiders Thread (1 Viewer)

I like the idea of signing Gresham. Great young TE to pair wit Rivera. I expect Reggie to get Knighton and then sign a bunch of lunch pail types that may not be the splashiest, but will get the job done. I'm thinking of guys like Morgan, Hudson (replaces Wiz and weakens a divisional rival), Gresham, Shorts and Cullivet. I could even see them grab someone like Wallace after he cut loose by the Fins.

I'm still optimistic but definitely do not expect anything bigger than this.
This would be a catastrophic failure. Can't do anything about Cobb re-signing, and Suh was probably always a long-shot, but you gotta land some kind of impact. You have room to overpay, and Reggie has shown the structure under which you can do so without long-term problems should the overpay bust (Hi Javon Walker), so you absolutely HAVE to get some impact players. Iupati, Hudson, McCourty, Maclin, Bulaga, Fairley (extra caution), Hughes - there are guys out there that can come in right now and be instant, huge ugrades. If you overpay those guys by 20% in year 1 and 10% in year 2 you build a base under which you can improve the team and thus make yourself more attractive next year and beyond. If you walk out of May with Knighton as your prize horse you've failed miserably.

This is beginning to feel like groundhog's day. At least they did not sign Gore to a ridiculous deal. Oh, Demarco Murray's agent is on line 6-

Hard to not see the reasoning for Cobb to stay in Green Bay. But not landing him bothers me more than Suh. I'm interested in seeing the final numbers behind the Suh deal. I read somewhere, sorry no link, that Suh was interests in Miami the whole time. Could be a situation where he knew where he wanted to go and let the Raiders drive his price. We may never know how close or not Reggie was to landing him. Put me in the group that is happy with the no signing of Thomas. I think he will only dream of the numbers he put up in Denver.

Supposedly Detroit's offer was close to Miami's. Seems like he was going to take the most money, but hard to know for sure. Like you said, might never find out, but I would love to know what the Raiders offered him, if they even did make an offer.

It's disappointing but I don't think anything could be done about Cobb, McCourty or Suh and I think they would have to offer 20-30% premium on top of whatever contracts they received to even have a shot.

I think the Hudson signing is a good one and there are still a lot of quality FAs out there to be had (e.g. if the Odrick/Knighton signing happens that will be another good move).

Worilds, Hardy, Fairley, Maxwell, Bulaga, Iupati, would all be welcome additions to Oakland.

Torrey Smith and Crabtree are the best WRs out there, it might be worth it to take a shot on one of them.

Torrey Smith rumored to be signing with San Fran, which means Crabtree might be even more available.
Personally I have never been a big fan of his game. I really like Crabtree's on-field game but his prima donna shtick evokes thoughts of Randy Moss (without the upside).

Still either would be an upgrade to the WR corps.

Hudson is a good signing and he is a bit better than Wiz. Now they have to sign some guys at positions that have been a problem. I do not love Crabtree either, but he would be an upgrade.

I'm not sure how much of an upgrade Crabtree is over rookies available in the draft, he drops alot of balls.

Lots can happen before/during the draft but unless Mariota/Winston is there I don't see them moving from the #4 spot so that would be Williams or Cooper.

I prefer Williams (it's a pretty deep WR draft, or so I'm lead to believe) but I think Raider fans should be happy with either.

I am not a fan of Crabtree but Carr needs help. Cobb or Maclin would have been great signings. The Raiders need to make a splash when FA officially starts. I hate all this pre-FA dealing.

I am glad that the Raiders did not sign Suh. That is a lot of money for a team that has some building to do.

The Hudson signing appears to be an upgrade. Even tho it was a long shot, I am disappointed they didn't sign Suh. The have apparently missed out and Odrick as well. DL is their biggest need so I expect they will overpay for Knighton.

Crabtree is not going to elevate Carr's. They already have similar type of players on the roster in Jones and Streater.

They haven't missed out on Odrick until he actually signs with Jax. There are two conflicting report that both speak with confidence so you never know.

I fail to see that. Crabtree seems to have a bad attitude, questionable work ethic and you get the feeling that he is a Moss-esque "Play when I want to play" guy but he has far more talent than Jones and Streater.

I question whether he will ever get right enough in the head to put it all together but if he does his natural ability far outstrips anything on the Raiders roster right now.

Curtis Lofton and Andre Johnson have both been released.

Not that the Raiders are desperate at LB but Lofton will be 29 in June has played 4-3 MLB & 3-4 ILB, has started 111 of 112 career games and averages 89 tackles/year. You gotta like that kind of consistency.

Johnson is old but I think he brings a lot to the table even if it is more from an intangibles perspective.

Agree with this.

I haven't given up on Williams yet. Tennessee runs a 3-4, if they lose D. Morgan, an edge guy becomes a major need, and maybe even if he re-signs. They run a 3-4, investing a top 5 pick in a 3-4 end isn't usually a good idea (Dorsey/Tyson Jackson).

Jacksonville re-signed Alualu, and if they sign Odrick, their big need is a Chris Clemons replacement.

Dante Fowler and Vic Beasley could go in front of us. Mariota could go in front of us.

We can disagree on on Crabtree's talent level, but how does having a potential malcontent at WR help Carr's development?

Andre Johnson is going to be considering teams like Baltimore, not the Raiders. No shot of him playing for the Raiders and I don't think it's a good fit anyway.

Oakland Raiders insider Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle reported on Monday afternoon that the team are nearing an agreement with Denver Broncos Terrance Knighton as 2015 NFL Free Agency is set to officially open on Tuesday afternoon. Something that surprises nobody after Knighton made public comments about his potential desire to play for Del Rio again after the former Broncos defensive coordinator took the Oakland job.

Tafur noted that a deal is not done yet, leaving the window open for Knighton to either stay in Denver or sign elsewhere even if there is an impending sense that a deal will get done between the two sides if all goes well in the final stage of negotiations.

I'd rather have Torrey Smith than Cobb, Smith is criminally underrated. I know he is already rumored to the 49ers, but things can happen.

I'll take Cobb 8 days a week. I like the Hudson signing. He is a top flight center.

only people going to Oakland in free agency are vets that are either cashing in one last time or someone that nobody else wants....thats the sad reality...anyone worth a damn wants to play for a contender

They could get good players, but they would have to offer at least market rate and probably more right now. There are plenty of guys that are coming off their rookie contracts that will chase the money.

Not true. Hudson is pretty highly regarded and only 26.

Hopefully Hudson is an upgrade at that price. Knighton, Iupati, Hardy on my wish list for this week. Cobb was a bummer. Need a F/A WR. Harvin?

Looks like Iupati will be headed to Arizona.

Harvin and Hardy don't seem to pass the Reggie character test.

:lmao:

Updated wish list (listed in ESPN free agency tracker projected contract value order):

Knighton

Tramon Williams

Charles Clay

Greg Hardy (if value deal)

Andre Johnson

Louis Delmas

Eddie Royal

Brandon Spikes

Vince Wilfork

plan Bs:

Akeem Ayers

Brian Orakpo

BJ Raji

Cecil Shorts

I want to see limited exposure to any risky names (like Hardy, e.g.) in the form of big upfront salaries, but no additional signing bonus; so cuttable each year. Like how Reggie structured prior-year, older-vet FA deals. A guy still thinks he's a stud. Pay him big fine, but make him prove it year to year until he has fewer question marks.

Tyvon Branch signed with Kansas City. I was not a big fan of releasing him.
Neither was I.
I do not see this as a big loss. Branch, even when healthy, wasn't an impact player. He has played only 3 games in the last 32 due to injuries. In those 3 games you barely heard his name. Not a big loss IMO.
I just didn't see the need to cut him. When healthy (admittedly he has not been) he is a good player. If they needed the cap room I could see it.
