2015 Oakland Raiders Thread (1 Viewer)

Ok, so how much do the Raiders actually need to spend this year and by when? What happens if they don't reach this salary floor?

No way they're making it now, right? Especially after freeing up another $5.5 MM if/when they cut Schaub.

Wallace looks like he is going to the Vikes for a trade up from the Dolphins seventh round pick to the Vikes fifth.

Missed opportunity for the Raiders IMO

Absolutely. For a 5th? Cmon. Gotta give Carr something to work with. I rather draft D at 4.

Yes, a 5th and 7th aren't much but they won't need him after getting Cooper. Save the $10M for next year.

To make it simple: NFL teams don't have to spend 89% of their salary cap. The salary cap floor does not apply to any single season, only to the entire 2013-2016 period. That means that not being in compliance in any single year is not going to be a problem for any team. Only if a team has so chronically underspent that they managed to still be below 89% over the entire four-year period, will they be held accountable.

Even so, there's no additional punishment beyond "spend the extra money." If the team hasn't spent 89% of the salary cap over that period, they'll have to fork over the difference to the NFLPA after 2016. That's not ideal, of course, but it's not exactly a huge incentive to just overspend, either.

Not joking, as a Chargers fan I respect but don't like how well the Raiders are being managed right now.

Avoiding Wallace was a win for the Raiders. This young, struggling team cannot take risks on cancers like Wallace.

The pressure on Reggie is enormous. This is his make or break season.

I can't find the link but I recall reading that the Raiders have a couple of years to get to the 89% level.

    .@RavensInsider: Nate Allen Raiders deal: 4-yr, $23M, $11.8M gtd, $4M bonus, salaries $2.9M, $4.9M, $5.85M, $4.85M, 2015 base full gtd

I do not understand this signing. By all accounts Allen played very poorly last season and the Raiders gave him almost 12 mil in guaranteed money. That is right out of Al's playbook.

Greg Jennings.... hello?

That's a pickup I could get on board with. Veteran guy who has a little something left in the tank. He could help a young QB and he's a good guy.

Last year in free agency, I kept asking who we should have signed. Even had a conversation with Ryan Riddle on Twitter. LOL'ing at Justin Tuck, Woodley, and Anotnoio Smith, and I repeatedly asked, 'who are these young, core players that the Raiders should be signing?'

First name he mentioned was Michael Johnson. Cut by Tampa after a year, and with no offsets in the contract, Tampa is actually paying him 7 mill to play for Cincy this year. What a nightmare.

Good to be Michael Johnson by the way. Was paid 11.175 franchise tag by Cincy in 2013, received 9 mill last year for one year in TB, and gets paid by two teams this year.

I think the fact that he signed JDR gives him at least two more years before they consider showing him the door.

He is certainly not behaving like a guy that has to get to the playoffs this year.

Meaning, I'm not seeing the pull out all the stops for this year type panic.

I'm really interested in the cornerbacks still available. They may not be studs, but they will be top 3 corners for a lot of teams. Plenty of teams have money.

Oakland could definitely use the help. Williams is old but he has been a regular starter in his career and I think teaming up with Woodson again could work. Robinson has never been a regular starter but he is only 27 and could be functional in a nickel role.

I'm really curious why there isn't any interest in OL Joe Barksdale from St. Louis. Seems like he could be plugged into guard or right tackle and solve a problem for us.

Quote from Reggie on this year's FA class

“We wanted guys entering their prime who can give us a few years,” McKenzie said. “We felt like, with the leadership we have now, we could just add to the roster. Last year, we felt like we didn’t have leadership. We got guys who had played some years and they were able to help our younger guys. We feel like we grew from that. We continue to add some young players. We wanted to inject some starter-type guys who can help us try to win some ball games.”
If this new core of players sticks I would guess they are targeting next season to take a risk on a marquee FA who may be able to get them over the hump and into the playoffs.

Somebody’s gotta pick up the slack for MJD’s 96 yards rushing on 43 carries last year, right? Raiders are the weigh station for retiring RB’s. :bag:

I can't wait to see contract details, better be league minimum. Signing him is not a big deal, but we are just the laughing stock of the league in every possible situation it seems. Can't wait to see Ponder handing off to Richardson this preseason.

What a waste of 3.9M. I hope I am proven wrong but I saw nothing from TRich last season that leads me to believe he belongs in the NFL.

Laughing stock for signing Richardson?

Hyperbole much?

T.Rich definitely looks like a "never-was" but taking a flyer on a young RB like him seems like no big deal for Oakland. I mean, why not take a chance on him?

Yes, laughing stock. There are people literally laughing at Trent Richardson getting that contract.

wtf when did you guys sneak ponder in there?

cuz he sucks?
Again, they have more cap space than any team (something people in here have been complaining about them not using), he will only be 24 in July, it is easy to dismiss Cleveland because they have been as big of a joke as Oakland for the past decade but it is harder to dismiss Indy's scouting department. I am not saying he is first round worthy, it's obvious that he has not been, but he was good enough to fool a lot of NFL teams into believing that he had first round talent. It's also a small investment for Oakland, look at the RB contracts that have been given out, just under $2 mil isn't a lot, it's less than half of what Ingram got and before last year people felt similarly about Ingram as they do about T.Rich now. If he sucks, cut him and no harm done.

If he was a cancerous influence in the locker room I would be concerned with the signing otherwise there is no reason not to kick the tires, even at $2 mil.
