2015 Oakland Raiders Thread (2 Viewers)

My dream scenario for next three pics:

2. Gregory (if rumors true that Raiders are high in him and ok with his "issues"

3. Jarrett

4. Henry Anderson

4-3 front would be sick and deep everywhere, except MLB.

Talk about the Bucs and Titans looking to trade out but if they dont, still have Gregory on their board.

Gregory should be fine in Oakland. I'm sure Hammer, Too $hort and E40 will take him under their wing.

He's a huge risk. If the brass thinks he's a lost cause, then by all means avoid. His talent is undeniable, though.

What position would Gregory play in Oakland?

They run a 4-3 and he's waaaaaay to light to play DE.

Scratch Gregory. Missed four flights to team visits, including to Oakland. A meeting they cancelled as a result. No way they draft that guy.

A rumor I read on another thread said that the Raiders had checked him out and determined he was fine; and that they were stoked on him. The facts of his missed flight / cxld meeting speak much louder than that rumor.

Cards are apparently shopping Michael Floyd.

I don't know if it's true or not, but tough offering up a vet WR for trade, when about every team in the league has added good, cheap WRs the last two years.

I don't get it. NFLN was yacking on and on about multiple teams trying to trade up for an early second round pick. Did we get even one offer?

I am in a wait and see mode. He has an interesting background and was productive at a major program. From NFL:

OVERVIEWStarted 13 games and selected first-team All-ACC in 2014. Did not play against N.C. State after suffering a concussion the previous game (vs. Clemson). Selected third-team All-ACC in 2013 and missed two games with a hand injury. Had a sack in the BCS National Championship Game against Auburn. Only true freshman to start on defense in 2012 after replacing injured Tank Carradine. Rated No. 1 prospect in nation out of high school and was selected USA Today Defensive Player of the Year. His father, Mario, Sr., was a heralded cornerback at FSU and won a national championship in 1999-2000. His father also played in the NFL for five years after being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys (sixth round) in 2000.

Funny, prior to this pick I was wondering if they shouldn't have gone Williams at 1 and Strong in the second. I can now that scenario would have made me more confident.

I was driving and listening to the Sirius NFL channel when the pick was announced.

Pat, Jim and Gil were all  for 30 seconds after his name was called. Total silence. Same old Raiders.

8 career sacks in 26 starts. Mediocre uneven performances. History of weight fluxtuarions, poor diet, bad weight on frame. Bites on fakes and overpursues. Injury history: missed games with broken hand with inserted screw. Also missed a game due to concussion.

Meanwhile Preston Smith goes and the first stat they read is 16 career sacks.

All I can figure is Jack Del Rio got a good hard look at him and felt he fit a role. Still don't understand the pick, but I believe Del Rio is being given autonomy over draft picks that DA did not.

Biggest red flag is his lack of self control with his diet. Usually goes hand in hand with love of the game. You can't play this game at this stage addicted to Taco Bell 4th meals. Welcome to Oakland, fatty.

I'm willing to let Edwards get on the filed before writing him off. Details are starting to come out about the knowledge of Edwards already in the Raider staff. Edwards worked out at EXOS ... The strength coordinator for the Raiders worked at EXOS. And Edwards coach for 2 years at FSU is the Raiders LB coach.

@ChrisHansenNFL: Everyone raves about Edwards' character that I've read about. Character is key for Reggie.

This might help explain the pick. That and Reggie mumbling something or other about being "country strong".

I don't mind this pick. He wasn't at the top of my favorite list available but from what I have read he has a ton of potential. I'm not going to ##### and moan about the pick until I see him on the field.

Vic Tafur ‏@VicTafur now
Edwards said #Raiders want him at 280 and to rush at LEO spot -- the weakside edge rusher

Jerry McDonald ‏@Jerrymcd now6 seconds ago San Francisco, CA

Edwards said Raiders plan on using him both inside and out. Expect lots of different D-line combinations from Del Rio/Norton defense

And Digi would have been a reach. Clearly the hips are an issue

We should all remember we are just guessing, and taking the words of a bunch of intent nerds as gospel.

Go get it, Mario!

Like the TE pick here. Would have preferred Strong, but I won't quibble. At least the Miami TE was a consensus 2nd to 3rd round grade. Looks like a well rounded TE who blocks and catches well. Average size and speed, so he's probably not going to be the next Jimmy Graham, but will be a nice tandem starter with Rivera. We needed a true backup receiving TE because behind Rivera we had nobody.

Time to take the risk with La'el Collins. Huge reward, little opportunity cost risk. If he's there in the 4th you gotta take him.
