2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs: All hail the Blackhawks, mudbutt (2 Viewers)

Chicago fans really do give 110%
I got my ticket last night for almost the same price that Standing Room Only tickets were going for. It's insane.

Not sure why other arenas don't come up with more standing room. Some people just want to get into the building.
Haven't been to a lot of the newer buildings, but in Boston, there really is no place where fans could stand or otherwise not be in everyone's way.

for Chicago, the standing areas are at the top of the arena, behind the last row of the 300 level (but below the top row of luxury suites). UC is already one of the biggest in the league without it, but I think that adds about 2500+ spots to their attendance/capacity. Place is already 21 years old too.

really hope the Wild can land Mike Reilly. he is going to be really good and since they are tight on cap and probably going to move Spurgeon (or maybe Scandella) at some point in the next year they could use another guy who comes at little cost. Olofsson missed most of last year so he's not close yet.

also, the X shakes more than your rink

will he come that cheaply though? some of the top players on entry level contracts seem to have pretty big cap hits when bonus money for playing time/production gets factored in.

Guess Chicago had him in for the game last night. They clearly have a strong need for him given the lack of depth at the position (and their own cap issues). Plus, he's from the area.

First Niagara Center in Buffalo doesn't shake at all anymore, fwiw.

I stood here for Game 1 of the Final against Philly. If you can't get an aisle standing spot you basically stand up on the concrete on the last row of seats and grab on to the back of the chair in front of you.

entry level deals are limited for the group he's in so he's picking based on best opportunity. Hawks make a ton of sense and why wouldn't you want to sign there...so that's probably where he'll go, which sucks.

Jeff Blashill's first press conference was impressive. Loves the city, grew up a Wings fan, Dad was a Detroit city cop and he wants to win. Love it.

Hey, haven't read the thread... but wasn't that one goal a two-line pass? Don't they have that rule anymore?
two line passes were taken out of the game after the first lockout
been 10 years since they got rid of that rule. if someone hasn't watched hockey in the last 10 years and then showed up in this thread, that's pretty awesome.
Wow, 10 years?? :bag:

I've watched plenty of hockey in that time, but never noticed before. Maybe I've just never happened to see a play that would have been as egregious as that one.

I've been a Blackhawks and Bears fan for 25 years. But, I did become a bandwagon Devils fan for a few years. It's tough to root for your favorite team when they're all on the golf course.

I watched Game two at Gretzky's in Toronto, great to see the Bolts win, but when they brought out my hamburger with a 99 seared on the top of the bun, I told the waiter to turn it upside down or I'm not paying for or eating it, that's how I roll

Reminds me I haven't seen an illegal defense called in the NBA lately.

this guy can put out some terrible articles, but man did he nail this one. couldn't have said the Bishop/goalie rant better myself. It's like he reads this thread.

6. Criticism of goaltenders' play

And yet, at the same time as everyone on earth is rending garments and gnashing teeth over Bishop being allowed to play through an injury, all the commentary on these games is very focused on what he's doing wrong. As though, if he were injured and Cooper played him anyway, his mobility problems were in some way his fault.

“They're trying to get him to move side to side,” and, “That one beat him high glove.” Know what every team in hockey tries to do to every goalie they play? Try to get him to move side to side. Know where most goals beat goalies? High glove.

Oh and that's right, this is #######' Brandon Saad and Marian Hossa and Duncan Keith making goals happen. One of them was through a screen on the power play, and the other was a phenomenal passing play by one of the best lines in hockey. It's not like he's getting lit up by an AHL team. And hell, he's not getting lit up at all. Again, 36 damn saves against Chicago at United Center. It's silly.

Of course, this type of asinine goaltender criticism is not just the provenance people harping on poor, rickety, moments-from-death Ben Bishop.

Take a look at the first goal Corey Crawford allowed, the laser-focused bombed-in slapper from Ryan Callahan. Let's say Callahan takes a similar unscreened shot from that exact location 500 times. How many times does that beat Crawford? Not a lot, certainly. That shot couldn't have been better placed if Callahan had called a Zack Morris-style time out and physically picked up the puck and carried it past Crawford's shoulder. That's how well-placed it was.

And there's the NBC Sports geniuses saying, “That's a bad goal to give up.”

There wasn't a goalie in the world stopping that one, folks. I know it's very en vogue to think Crawford is a bum even now, after all the success he's had (.932 save percentage at 5-on-5 in these playoffs), but come on. There are just some shots no one's stopping.

Me pumping the tires on Vasilevskiy over Bishop was shtick. Bishop has been great since his days at Maine. I thought the Blues should have kept him.

That being said, his glove has been very weak at times and it looked like he was fighting the puck a ton on Monday. Hawks couldn't capitalize though.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: Some scouts say Vasilevskiy has chance to be "Russian Carey Price," that is to say franchise netminder. Stage doesn't get bigger than this.

I was just about to post this

20 year old kid starting making his first start as Goalie in the Cup series? yeah, no pressure.
