2016 Green Bay Packers thread (3 Viewers)

I'm not confident in a win at all, kind of in the mode of playing with house money at this point. I was surprised the line was 4.5 though, I think it's a coinflip.

ATL has problems of their own, aside from also losing their #1 CB for the year. Julio is still hurt (they'll say he's fine for the game but it's clear he's not 100%), DE Clayborn is out, and maybe Shanahan is distracted by thoughts of leaving for a new job.

The WR injuries don't look great but in AZ last year against a much better defense Rodgers almost won without Nelson, Adams or Cobb (injured without any catches).
Montgomery wasn't around either.

So yes...true.  Went to OT with Janis and Abredderris basically.

Seattle assistant GM also withdrew his name yesterday. This is typical when a team already has focused in on one name. Saves face for the candidate. In this case, Brian Gutekunst, the Packers’ director of player personnel is said to be the front runner. But it struck me as funny as how the 49ers are dong this back###wards. Shouldn't you normally hire the GM first and let him pick the coach?

I was just having this conversation with a patient. Everyone I talk to is super confident that the Packers are going to win. Atlanta is a very good team. Their offense is one that can go point for point with GB. I had a bad feeling about Dallas too. So maybe it's just those cheese curds again...

I would disagree with you jurrassic on the injuries. This week they are possibly going to have the shortest inactive list than they've had the last month. I am fully expecting Jordy, Adams, and Rollins to play. Burnett I am nervous about as I haven't heard anything very positive (or negative) on his progress this week. He is key.
Jordy it's a pain management issue. It's not really the MD's call... his ribs are going to be the same risk today as they will be in 4 weeks... it's a pain control thing. If Jordy can tolerate the pain he can play.
Adams I am hearing is getting rest to avoid aggravation and heal as much as he can before the game
Rollins should be cleared soon and he will suit up immediately
I'm pretty confident that Adams plays as well as Allison. Jordy, if he plays, will be a bonus. More and more optimistic on Rollins as the week goes along. I think a very very big key is if Burnett can play. GB defense relies on it's safeties so much, especially with the patchwork DBs. Burnett also plays a lot in the box which helps the run defense. I'll feel better if he is available on Sunday.

Regarding Jordy Nelson, I thought it was more about swelling in his spleen, which would put him at risk.

Not sure about the rest of Packer nation, but I'm not confident in beating Atlanta. At. all. Not sure we can stop them. They just have too many weapons and eventually it's going to catch up with our undrafted free agent defensive backfield.

Jordy has been cleared to practice within pain limits. no idea if his spleen is swollen, shouldn't be if it's only up.to his pain tolerance.

I am in the party that the pack will lose by 9-10

Thanks. Just wanted to clarify on Jordy because Monday you posted you were hearing it was an enlarged spleen and that when the swelling went down he can play. Today you posted it was a pain tolerance thing. I saw he practiced today at half-speed and without pads, saw that as a good sign that his spleen must not be swollen anymore.

I'll be happy to be wrong but I see the game the same way. Packers lose by 9-10 points in a high scoring game. 41-31

They are a total #### show.

yes, my understanding was last week he had a lot of pain and some swelling and that now it's just a pain thing. so some great progress. I won't hear anything else, and what I've been getting has been pretty minimal compared to during the regular season

Seattle hired Carroll before they hired Schneider. It's usually done the other way around yes

Isn't Kyle going to bring dad as GM?

Watching the replay of the Packers/Falcons game for just a minute.  Saw a totally bogus rough the passer call on Datone Jones I think.  It was like, wow.  I'm sure it goes both ways but there is so much hidden yardage in a game.

Could be...he also said in a way they are giving Allison and Adams the week.  I think they are concerned...but being very precautious especially with Allison.

Adams probably needs the week.  I don't see anyway he misses the game.  Even after last year...Id rather him go out there a little gimpy than not have him or Jordy.
The local sports "experts" claim Adams can't even really walk today and would be shocked if he could play with any kind of impact.  Not sure how accurate that is.

Hypo situation, which one gives Pack best chance to win?

A) Pack down 4,ball at their own 25,30 seconds left, one timeout

B) Pack up 4,Atlanta ball at their own 25,30 seconds left,NO timeouts.

Agree with the good Dr.

So, flu running through the team, trip lengthened by fog and a bus ride to Milwaukee, Team more banged up than all year, to the point where we don't know if we can run our normal offense or fieled and offense, and we can't run some of our defense.  Special teams in a jumble as members move into starting roles.  Quite a recipe for disaster, which is why I think the Packers will win. Time to play like they are playing with hose money and have nothing to lose.  Good luck.

We've got them just where we want them

I honestly would cheer if they released 23 this offseason.  In fact broom all the corners and start from scratch.  They literally cannot do worse than these bums.   Worst corners I've ever seen?  They are worse than expansion team corners.  It finally caught up to them.

No running game to slow Atlanta down. No defense to slow Atlanta down. Rodgers wants to be the center of the universe and it has backfired countless times. They will never get to the Superbowl again without balance. I wont blame Rodgers though. He played his heart out today. Best quarterback in the league IMO despite getting spanked.

Great season. The team showed real resolve coming back from a 4-6 start. Run the Table was the mantra and they delivered 8 straight victories. Seeing the win on the road week 17 in Detroit to take the division was great, winning a playoff game in Lambeau against the Giants was awesome, and going down to BigD and knocking off the #1 seeded Cowboys was one of the more memorable games of the last few years. Today's loss in the NFC Championship game against the Falcons stings, but it wasn't exactly surprising considering the health of the roster and the defense's inability to slow offenses down of late.

Roster: The defense currently stands between this team and a legitimate Super Bowl chance. Not only does Ted Thompson need to find another blue chipper on that side of the ball, but he probably needs to find two - specifically an edge rusher. Preferably draft picks with higher Sparq scores and less marginal athlete types. Also, on offense it's time to invest in a higher round running back and (with this stacked class) a young tight end at some point.

Coaching Staff: It's time to replace Dom Capers. His schemes no longer work, especially against the better offenses. I understand the excuses that can be made on his behalf today (injuries, game script, etc) but his units just didn't get the job done even when everyone was healthy and the offense was keeping them off the field. When a coaching staff is in place as long as this one has, it can just get stale. McCarthey may need to make a change to shake things up a bit, and that one seems like an obvious place to start. This is not a reactionary suggestion based on a tough outcome, but a well-thought out belief based on years of evidence.

Overall, we still have Rodgers and a championship window for the next few seasons. Go Pack Go!

The roster was a disaster all year.  This one falls squarely on Ted.  He put a sub .500 product on the field.  Rodgers skill alone carried this team into the playoffs.  I really hope we see some changes.  I doubt we do.

No reason to hang your heads.  Just another great season from the Pack with no sign of ever slowing down.   Tough to go to the Super Bowl much in the current NFL.

I'm so confused.  You've been ripping him in the Rodgers thread and now you're saying he's the best QB in the league?

While I agree...I think it is a time for a change defensively.
Sometimes change is needed.  Certainly a talent upgrade is needed as well.  I guess and hope Peppers retires.  I suspect Shields is done.  I wonder who else they might lose, though its not like teams will be lining up to poach any of thee guys.

Would love to see the Packers offensive scheme evolve to look as innovative as Atlanta's.  Guys were wide open by 5-10 yards for the Falcons.  Granted, they had the benefit of facing a Capers defense.

Tough loss today. Unfortunately, injuries finally caught up with them. From 4-6 to NFC Championship Game without a break since week 4 is pretty remarkable. Very proud of Packers fighting through all the adversity.
Went in to the game short-handed at DB, 3 WRs playing hurt, lost what? 9 players during the game? Heck, ended the game with Guilon playing offensive line.

Agreed. Hell of a fun year to be a fan and the future remains bright.

According to Tom Silverstein on twitter he talked to Shields after the game. Shields is still experiencing headaches (yikes) but wants to continue his career

You guys still ok with Capers?
Don't love him but more pissed at Thompson and their lack of talent on defense than Capers.  I'm not sure any defense coordinator could do much with this group. Letting Hayward walk turned out to be a monumental mistake.

Soooooooo sick of the injury excuses.
But it is amazing how they had guys injured on almost every series.  I've never seen a team loss players at the rate the Packers did this year.  Not an excuse just reality.  Atlanta's really good so I'm not sure a completely healthy Packer team wins today.

What a silly comment.  I don't think he wants to but rather has to be the center of the universe for this team to be successful as they are currently constructed.  I'm sure Rodgers would love to have the running game that Ryan and the Falcons has.
