2016 Oakland Raiders thread (1 Viewer)

Wow! I'm all for protecting QBs, especially Carr. But if that's roughing the passer now, might as well put the red Jersey on them.

Great rebound performance by the Raiders, playing touch on the road on the East Coast. Really sloppy game with a lot of penalties, of course, but Raiders putting enough points on the board early to prevent a shaky Bortles & Co from coming back.

Not over yet, but liking what I see -- if the Raiders ever cleaned up their game, they would really be something.

5-2, men. 5-2. Let that sink in.

Looooong season to go, anything can still happen, and past isn't a reliable indicator of the future.

We still have a lot of holes and aren't playing to full potential on either side of the line.

But this is a pretty satisfying run so far.

5-2 is amazing!

that game was horrible to watch.  especially the second half.  the refs were on tv waaaaaay to much.  but a win is a win!

next week will be really tough, but i think they have a shot at 6-2.  go houston!

yes, I'm a HUGE Houston fan tonight!

I didn't get a chance to watch the game in real time (tivo'd it and fast-forwarded between all the plays). I saw the pushing and shoving a bit but couldn't get a sense of who was "at fault". Was it mostly the Jags frustration with losing or were our guys showing immaturity and lack of poise and starting trouble?

Anything less than 9 wins will be a disappointment.

5-2 now. so we gotta win 4 remaining games

@ TB

     Den - Sun Night

Hou - in Mexico Mon night

     Car

     Buf

@ KC - Thurs Night

@ SD

     Ind

@ Den

Thats easy. We are 4-0 on the road. 4 more road games = 4 more wins. Throw in another for the Mexico game (will that be played at elevation?)

The more I watch other teams' offenses, the more I appreciate the Raiders offense. Some ugly performances around the NFL last week.

Derek Carr 3rd most accurate QB in league on deep passes, according to PFF.
Many tried to knock Carr on his deep ball accuracy coming out of college. Fools.

But those are people who dont watch games and only look at stats. He wouldn't throw INTs at all (50tds vs 8ints), and a by-product of that was him placing the ball in the "my-guy-or-nobody" position. Sublimely accurate tosses all around.

Great season so far but everyone settle down and try to recall 1995.  I know it's painful but I think it's important to remember before anyone goes and buys their tickets to Houston.

This is my fear -- hate even talking about how well we are doing, seeing all the stats (last time the Raiders were 5-2 was the year they went to the SB!) etc.

This is still the NFL. Any given Sunday. And this team still has one of the worst Ds on paper, committing way too many penalties, and a few key pieces on both sides still need to play up to potential (and not just Cooper and Mack).

No matter what happens from here, love that we are playing as a TEAM. Love seeing us be competitive and challenging others in our fairly stout division and that we are finding ways to win on the road, and win games that we should.

Seeing more consistency will only be better, but I am completely satisfied with what I see so far.

It is disconcerting that they leave a lot of points on the field. That could be a bad omen vs a good team.

Carr really strikes me as a young Farve in respect to his arm, accuracy and field presence. Like a young Farve, he can be inaccurate on some passes. I notice he has location issues throwing to RBs in the flat. The ball always goes to the back hip. He also can be inaccurate on crossing routes and dig routes. On the other hand, he might be one of the best QBs at locating the fade and seem routes. He has really improve in throwing the fade. Previous to this year a lot of those throws would end up OB.

Humorous "Raiderdamus" prediction of this weekend vs the Bucs via SBNation

Favorite line:

While the Jaguars are the Florida Man that blows himself up by using fireworks in a makeshift meth lab, the Bucs are more like the Florida Man who dies by falling asleep in a room with no ventilation and farting himself to death. It's more sad than funny, just like the Buccaneers themselves.

We should be motivated to cream the former Creamsicle uni-wearing Bucs because a) they tried to rip off the pirate mystique the Raiders fully established, b) Bruce the Buccaneer (enough said), c) 2002, and d) because we're the better team, dammit.

But even though we spent the whole week in FLA to acclimate, it's still a home game for the Bucs who can take advantage of our secondary if we aren't playing up to snuff. My keys to the game:

1) LBs containing Jacquizz and Jameis. Make the Bucs one dimensional and stop the run, and keep Winston from making plays with his own legs.

2) Keep Cameron Brate ineffective -- can't let our traditional weakness of allowing opposing TEs to run riot over us. Need to limit the 3rd down dagger plays of allowing TEs or slot receivers to find seams and make a big converting play.

3) Smith vs Evans. Smith plays up and down. He will need to be up (and get help from Joseph) to take Mike Evans out the game. Smith has similar measurables as Evans, so at least there won't be a physical mis-match.

4) Grimes vs Crabs. On the flipside, can't allow Grimes to slow up Crabtree. We need Crabs to be dynamic and mobile.

5) Raiders need to establish the run game -- we can't be one-dimensional ourselves. Need to get Murray in a position to use his bruising power to get him to the second level, use Washington/Richard to mix up pace. Take the pressure off Carr from having to force throws.

Doug Martin out, and Gerald McCoy  has a calf injury sustained in practice.

Evans is a monster, but really, this is why we have Smith. So we have as good a chance to deal with him as anyone.

Want to hear if Menelik back, only read that he's limited.

Like to see us run the ball on this team, and hope they are fresh and rested.

That's the biggest thing. How are they after 9 or 10 days in Florida.

Drunk & high maybe? Same as anyone after 9 days in Florida.

Jokes aside, Raiders are such a good road team despite a less than awesome pass defense....and Bucs passing game has been on point lately. Nothing the raiders have at DB is a match for Evans, and they'll throw to him 15 times even if the coverage is good. No insult to the Raiders secondary, but very few DBs can cover Evans right now.

Viewing wise, this is probably the game of the week.

If I had to bet I'd probably take the home team and the point, but this feels like a pick-em. I think Raiders are the better team but this game's also a bit of a trap. Oakland's had a lot of travel. Has to catch up with them sometime, and coming off an emotional road win in the "jack's revenge"  game in Jacksonville...yeah.

Sadly I'll be at a Dia de los Muertos festival and will miss this one.

San Diego has it's own Day of the Dead festival every year. It starts tonight though Nov 2 in old town. The food is amazing!

This is an awesome cultural event - fantastic food, costumes, parade - great event. I only meant sadly since I'll miss what I think is the best game of the week from a viewing standpoint. The festival is going to be a blast!

Derrick Carr is a ####### warrior.  We lose that game 98/100 times.  In team history.  We lose it 102/100 times in the last 14 years.  I don't know how you don't blow a gasket over 24 penalties.  If I'm JDR I'd have had an MI on the sideline.  He should just throw everyone's name in a hat but Carr's and pull it out and fine that ####er 10k.   He should build a throne, let Carr sit upon it and make every player and coach run gassers until Carr deems it fair they stop.

Ok now that that's done I'll enjoy 6-2 with 5-0 on the road.  We got a long way to go, but we've come a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way already baby.

One of most frustrating games I've watched in my 49 years on earth. With an 'average' penalty day they roll. They very likely had nearly 800 yds of offense with some of the plays they lost due to penalty. Insane. Should have won this game at least 6 diff times. Hard to believe Jano missed 2 potential game winners. And still, if Winston not so horrible, TB wins, we dodged a bunch of potential big plays vs our D. God bless Carr - doesn't get down, doesn't blow up at guys, just keeps fighting - what a leader!

Carr's huge day and the comical amount of penalties will unfortunately overshadow how well the defense as a whole played today.

Winston was inaccurate today. I'd like to think the pass rush rattled him. But he missed some wide open receivers. Mack has 3 sacks in 3 games, he's starting to warm up just in time for the Denver match up. And hopefully they'll get Aldon and Edwards back soon, could be just the shot in the arm this improving defense needs. Gotta give props to Hayden. In my opinion I think he had his best game of his career. And Amerson held Mike Evens in check. And Joseph made his presence felt. Nice job all around by the secondary especially after losing Smith the first play of the game.

Love seeing Penn get his TD vs the old team.

The clutch gene on this offense is unreal. From Carr through Crabs and Roberts.

Still think the running game is not cohesive.

That's two good games in a row for the defense.

Karl Joseph is on his way man.

Running game is a funny thing. Another 128 yards, 113 to the RBs @ 5.4 per carry, but they rotate them so much that no individual seems to be taking over the game so it seems like they are limited in the running game.

It's weird bit I think they have actually figured out the formula for an effective RBBC.

Just think..  Blake "Garbage Time" Bortles went not only before Carr, but even before Mack!  Great win today.. another which will go down as part of the mystique, which is the Raiders...

When Penn caught the TD my first thought was - the players have to love Del Rio and this team is really fun to watch and root for.

Oakland was given 2 very huge gifts by Jacksonville and Cleveland in that draft.  Most Raider fans knew we had a great draft with those 2 picks but I doubt many of us knew just how well that was going to work out.
