Denver has Mark Sanchez as their starting QB so I'm going with Yes.BigSteelThrill said:CBS post-draft Power Rankings...
9. Oakland Raiders. They have improved their roster greatly this offseason, both in free agency and the draft. Could they push Denver for the division title?

Really like the idea of a 5'8" guy hiding behind our offensive line.
He wasn't conscious at all, he was dead when they got Palmer.
I'd imagine it was before power rankings were even invented.
He reminds me most of Ray Rice. Hopefully DW pans out for us. 5'8 is shoooort.LawFitz said:DeAndre Washington comps...
DeAndre Washington
Justin Forsett
Dion Lewis
Ray Rice
Athletically, he's closer to Rice than Forsett.
Being short and lower to the ground is usually a good trait for a running back.He reminds me most of Ray Rice. Hopefully DW pans out for us. 5'8 is shoooort.
I thought this is who they signedDenver has Mark Sanchez as their starting QB so I'm going with Yes.
I am more concerned about KC than Denver. It should be telling about how their offense will go when you know Sanchez is a downgrade from Osweiler. In other words, Denver's offense is going to be less than good this year. The defense will still be very good but they did lose a couple of important pieces in Jackson and Trevathan. Neither the offense or defense brought in players capable of making up for what the lost.Denver has Mark Sanchez as their starting QB so I'm going with Yes.
Agreed, very good chance. Certainly have every reason to think the team can compete.Chadstroma said:I am more concerned about KC than Denver. KC lost Sean Smith (evil laugh) but I can't really think of anyone else they lost. I think that they are the more complete team vs Denver.
In the end though, with our young guys developing/progressing and the additions we added- I think we have a very good chance of winning the Division. When was the last Division title? 2002?
Conference is a harder pitch but I think we are now in the discussion. We shall see if the discussion actually translates to the scoreboard though. Of course, we are making assumptions here in projecting our young players getting better, the really young players contributing right off the back and the FA's being good fits and playing well. There is a lot of assumptions there but they are reasonable assumptions.Agreed, very good chance. Certainly have every reason to think the team can compete.
Conference? Who knows.
KC and DEN are both well-coached, which is a consideration for me. Personally, I believe we were a better matchup vs. KC and DEN once the rush defense improved in 2015.
yup....everything is lining up for a break out yearHUGE news for us. Saw it on my alert feed and it made me jump up. A healthy Mario is like us having had an extra 1st rounder this year.
This right here x1000HUGE news for us. Saw it on my alert feed and it made me jump up. A healthy Mario is like us having had an extra 1st rounder this year.
I didn't realize he was part of the God Squad too.
Oh, man, don't get me wrong, I love the Bible verses on everyone's Twitter feed. Especially if this team moves to Vegas.Meh, beats being a street thug. What is the deal with Cook's dad?
sort of way.
No kidding. Pretty exciting to think about the potential of this defense. Lots of IFs though... if the FAs play up to expectations, if the defense stays healthy... if Joesph can fill CWood's shoes... If A. Smith stays out of trouble and returns to pro-bowl form... Wow!Very good news on Mario Edwards being cleared to play. The defensive front is going to be scary this year. Now with the addition of Ward and Calhoun we can rotate players in and out to keep the big guys fresh all game long.
I would guess the middle would consist of M. Smith and Heeney. With Neiron Ball and Corey James backing them up.Are we gonna quit pretending and just officially go 3-4? Ellis and MEJ play end, Ward depth and he and MEJ for inside pressure in sub packages. Dan Williams = NT. We all know Mack and Aldon Smith are no 4-3 OLB and now Irvin plays exactly the same role and Calhoun fills in depth. The only thing we're missing is any kind of quality inside LB play. I say move Mack inside and let him blow up the run and move all around the formation. Irvin and Smith OLB, Mack ILB and moving all over the formation like Clay Matthews does.
I thought that was only for the Offensive side of the ballI didn't realize he was part of the God Squad too.
I think we are multiple. Which really, I think most teams are now. And really, what we refer to as sub packages is the base. Whichever team has the best nickel package, has the best defense. The Broncos has Mailk and Wolfe inside Von and Ware, and Roby as the nickel--they were the best. Are we gonna quit pretending and just officially go 3-4? Don't be putting the pressure on Joseph to fill CWood's shoes. Totally different player. Let him play his game and be a dang good SS which it looks like he can be.No kidding. I would say that like most teams in the NFL they are a hybrid but hell, with the NFL evolving as it has into being so pass happy the Nickel is basically the base defense. They are going to move Mack all around all the time to try to create confusion and mismatches. It could be even more effective now because of all the talent around him. They will throw in some 3-4 looks and 4-3 looks. I am not sure what you will be able to call our 'base' D when the marquee player will be playing both end and LB and be moved all around to all sides and I really don't care as long as we win.Are we gonna quit pretending and just officially go 3-4? Freaking pretty much what I said....I think we are multiple. Which really, I think most teams are now. And really, what we refer to as sub packages is the base. The Broncos were not particularly strong up the gut as a 3-4. They were strong against the run, I'm not saying they were not. But their NT was Sylvester Williams, who probably played 35% of the downs, if that. Neither ILB is a banger, they were both movers, and frankly, both are more like 4-3 WLB.
I have done a complete 180 on Mack. I was excited about the idea of having a top OLB on the team for the first time in I don't know how long. I was a little skeptical about moving him to DE. And then I watched him play DE. There is no LB in the league that has the effect a Mack or Watt has. Move him all over the field, sounds good to me, as long as 90% of the time, he winds up on the defensive line. Going forward, forcing teams to account for him, and block him, and pray their running play isn't going his way, or that they can block him long enough to get the pass off.
I think if we don't perform it is on them.Okay the table is set now let's see if JDR can cook. IMO the jury is still out on the coaching staff, in a big way.
LOL. This is the big leagues, my man. There is pressure on everybody to perform. It is unrealistic to expect Joseph, or anybody for that matter, to perform at CWodd's level. But getting solid, above average play is a reasonable expectation for a first round pick.Don't be putting the pressure on Joseph to fill CWood's shoes. Totally different player. Pressure is fine. Trying to be CWood is a whole different level. CWood was a once in a generation player. Truly.LOL. This is the big leagues, my man. There is pressure on everybody to perform. Agree. Guess you just missed the bolded part.Pressure is fine. Trying to be CWood is a whole different level. CWood was a once in a generation player. Truly.
Forget performing at Woodson's level/ability. I expect -- nay, demand! -- that Joseph play like a beastly mini-Lott right out of the gate.32 Counter Pass said:LOL. This is the big leagues, my man. Great post, and this 100x. NFL D has really moved away from traditional 3-4/4-3 bases and use hybrid systems where subs are used heavily based on down/distance situations. And you are also right that nickel really is the most dominant D -- mostly to handle the popular spread offenses that have become prevalent, but also because using hybrid safety/LBs and LB/ends to adjust to opportunities in offensive alignment makes for more disruption on opposing offenses.massraider said:I think we are multiple. He was an interesting guy when he was drafted, one of those picks everyone was in a rush to praise. He was a favorite of mine for sure, as potential Raider, at the time. His physical profile, to my mind, is very, very similar to MEJ and Ward--Base end types that can kick inside.Chris McClain @ChrisMcClain 45m45 minutes ago

The stars are aligning...the stars that will circle the heads of WRs and downfield runners when Joseph lays wood on them, that is.joey said:Does the fact that Joseph was just assigned Lott's jersey number bode well for your expectation -- nay, demand?!
