Carr is struggling some as well. I am going to blame it on the finger. Not sure what is going on with Cooper. He shows flashes but then disappears. Maybe he is banged up again. He is still young though and is definitely going to be a strong starting WR for the Raiders for years.

Very odd. Typically whoever from Crabtree & Cooper has the better matchup generally does better that week. This week Crabtree did have the better matchup. But Crabtree seems to always be involved despite the matchup while Cooper disappears a lot. Very curious what's going on here.

I think you are correct, but it is a bit odd since Crabtree leads the league in dropped passes.

From my crappy memory it seems like Crabtree has drops, but a lot of them are really tough catches to begin with...catches that no other WR would even get their hands on.32 Counter Pass said:

That is partly true; however, Crabtree also drops passes that should be caught. He had a couple of rough games a few weeks back.

He dropped a very catchable ball in the red zone yesterday to kill a drive. Then he turns around and makes that great td catch. Go figured.

Would have been a great experience to go to a takeover in SD, I've never done it.
If we host a playoff game, I'm flying to OAK for that one.
And obviously, if we wind up in NE for the AFC title, I'll be there for that.

I was supposed to go to the tuck rule game and ended up not being able to go. I'm glad I wasn't there for that in hindsight. Hell I'm still bitter over that.

I was there. Pretty amazing experience. By the way, there wasn't a flake of snow on the ground 6 hours before that game.
We were driving down to tailgate, and as we passed the stadium, my buddy (Pats fan) yelled, ''I just saw a snowflake!!'' By the time we parked, snow was coming down heavy. Kept up all night. Pats fans were praying for the snow to slow down Gannon, and that was a crazy storm. Heavy snow, I couldn't believe the teams were playing in it. 4 inches of snow on the field, they were shoveling the yard lines.
After the Beikert/Woodson sack/strip/fumble/recovery, I said to my Raiders buddy, ''OK, we just gotta get out of here alive....'', and my Pats buddy tapped me on the shoulder, and pointed at the challenge flag. I knew, right away, they were gonna screw us.

I heard Ross Tucker interview a Raider involved in that game, can't remember who, and that player said they were standing around for 5 mins waiting for the refs to figure that out and that they called New York for advice... something along those lines.
The above just adds to how much abnormal activity went on that night

One thing I've realized with a good team is people are sure writing about MVP and Pro Bowl and power rankings a lot.
It's not possible for me to care less about that stuff. But man, a, lot of people must. No one writing about the #1 seed in our sights, but all kinds of MVP debate.

Reading Football Outsiders, and read some interesting stuff. Oakland is only team not to blow a 4th quarter lead. That sounds impressive, until you consider the record they may break:
Can this team come from behind to beat BAL at home, or NE on the road in the playoffs? I dunno.
The defense does fine when it bends but doesn't break, and gets to 3rd and longs, but too often they let teams break off big chunks on early downs.
The offense has too many mental mistakes that result in wasted drives, too many ill-conceived drives that start with plays that go nowhere, and result in negative yardage.
The way they are playing ball now is not Super Bowl worthy, we really need them to be playing their best ball going into the playoffs. The Colts should be wet paper towel, we should run right over them, no excuse for any other result.
Hard to lose 4th quarter leads when you don't have them. This team all year has come from behind to beat teams, a lot of those teams that probably should not have been beating us in the first place. It's great that we have the clutch gene, but the entire team has not shown the ability to dominate, and just win a game wire to wire. The talent is there. It's weird to complain about a team with only 3 losses, coming off a 7-9 season, but the Raiders are a Super Bowl contender, but there is talent at all levels, except maybe linebacker.

Hoping that Edwards return pulls the same kind of magic for Mack as he apparently did back when MEJ was healthy -- not just a contributor in his own right, but MEJ seemed to open up Mack's play that much more.
Could be the extra little piece we need to secure the kind of D that will get us far into the playoffs, enabling that aforementioned wire to wire lead.

Are their any teams out there that dominate games, against playoff teams, wire to wire this year? Seems they all have their warts this season.
I don't understand why we don't run more hurry up, outside of end of half drives/when we are down 2 or 3 scores. Id like to see it instituted earlier as the last 2 games when we ran hurry up the offence rolled down the field like a ####### juggernaut in KC and SD. Why do they not try it in the 1st 3 drives just for a single drive to get the Offence into gear?

Good call out. Haven't done the analysis, but would imagine when you look at teams that have seemed to have dominate games (NE, DAL) that the scoring is more distributed than you would think.
Still, I think the notion is that the consistently successful teams are ones that are able to score more often than not with their first posession, and answer score for score to stay ahead and/or clamp their D down to prevent comeback scores from their opponents through the game. In this way, the lead they get early is maintained more or less through the game.
This is not the Raiders yet. But looking at the way they've stepped up this year, they may not be too far away.
Question I have is whether this is always a good thing. Some teams -- like the Raiders this year -- need to feel like the underdogs and may actually thrive more with the pressure of having to come back and win the game. This is the team we are now, and I'm not sure it's such a bad thing if that's what the team needs to continue to step up and succeed.

Yeah. Something is up with Cooper.
Sure he had that one really nice 35 yard catch. But then he cuts his route short at the goal line (thankfully it wasn't intercepted). I'm not counting play by play but it looks like Cooper is only out there for half the plays. Not what we'd expect for our stud #1 WR. Color me concerned.

Greg Cosell said something interesting regarding Tom Savage last week: that when he identified man coverage on Hopkins (against the Jags ace CB) he threw that way. Carr is not doing that, with Cooper at least, he either has been coached that way, doesn't trust himself or doesn't trust Cooper
