2017-18 NBA (Playoffs): A gasping, wheezing thread begs message board poster arguing how Jordan never lost a Finals to just let it die in peace (2 Viewers)

They still have their best asset and virtually all of their best players save for one guy that they got for nothing this season because he forced his way off the team they happen to be playing, and saying they are "closest to the NBA Finals" is sort of like saying Gary Johnson was "closest to the Presidential election" for a while because he was officially nominated before the people who actually had a chance to win, but sure. I know how much Boston fans like to pretend they're the lovable scrappy underdog.
well we're at least scrappy...

they have 5 top 10 draft picks playing right now! 7 on the roster if you include Hayward and Irving!

that's kind of.... incredible

Last years CAVS had eight top 5 picks and seven top 3 picks if you can believe it:

1:  James, Irving, Bogut

2:  Derrick Williams

3:  Thompson, Dunleavy, Deron Williams

5:  Love

A little misleading since Dunleavy was traded before both Williams' were brought in later in the season, but yes that's ridic.  The difference is Boston isn't bringing in the top 5 busts and aged vets....yet.

I would like to see the Dubs pay for dumbing themselves down so often because, though they play beautiful ball, it's been a long time since i've seen them actually play beautiful ball.. "Just enough" ball does nothing for me. I'm glad the Rockets did enough of what they do well to make me mad they didnt do it in Game 1 but, frankly, last night looked like network reminded Golden State that the cap went down last year after they short-worked everyone and they saw so little threat from Houston they did a collective "what the hell".

I've had fun watching Tatum progress the same way.  If you break his season into thirds, his first third was a get to know you kind of thing and he exploded onto the scene with his high 3 point percentage.  Then the second third of the season he came down to earth and looked, lost, weak, and looking around like he had no business being on the floor.  Then in the final third of the season, he just jumped to a level I didn't expect.  And now in the playoffs he's even taken it to another level.  No rookie wall, very aggressive and not backing down from anyone.  I love it!
I have some fear that, whereas Brown's rookieness looked permanent well into his sophomore year, Tatum might actually need rookie urgency to keep his game up. If anyone paid actual attention to film anymore, more defenders would realize that the rook has about four looks that he likes to start from the same spots on the floor and can easily be made to dump the ball off if he doesnt get them. Stevens has never really changed anyone's game - his strength, genius even, is integrating everyone's game into a team concept (case in point: Marcus Morris stuck out like a sore thumb when he first came to the Celts w his black-hole iso game. his game hasnt changed a bit - but weirdly, wonderfully, it now fits w what everyone else is doing) so Tatum can't coast on what he does well, cuz it'll get figured out sooner or later. Strangely, i now see the other Jay as being more capable of putting a team on his back. But i love being proved wrong - one of the great pleasures of watching the Green these days.....

The scrappy underdog days are long gone...Thank God...

Not surprised people are jumping to that conclusion, nor would I be stunned if that was ultimately the play (Kings fans have long since stopped being surprised by anything). But we don’t need to go any further back than last summer to find a high profile Euro who refused to come play for the Suns signing with the Kings instead.

Ratings are alllllllllll they care about.
I wondered on Mother's Day if they really thought a 3:30 tip would bring more viewers than say 8:30 that same night.  I'm sure they have the data and chose wisely, unless there was no choice to be made because of something contractual (ABC not wanting to disrupt their primetime slate or whatever).

You are so damn salty these days my friend. Dang

Make no mistake though, they are missing their two best players. Horford is a close third though.

I didn't realize Coach of the year was on this too. I have never paid a ton of attn. to it, but was the award Casey won awarded through players/teams or what? And I guess this means there are 2 COYs?

Different award. The COY that Casey won was voted on by the other coaches, NBCA or something like that. The above awards are the snctioned NBA awards, voted on by sportswriters

I'm watching Doncic in the Euroleague semis tomorrow. It's basically the world cup and the final four wrapped into one. Oh to be in Belgrade.

The first game features legendary BC Zalgiris Kaunas against Fenerbahce Istanbul. The experienced Turks are 6 point favorites but it's never an upset when Lithuania wins. Brad Stevens Šarūnas Jasikevičius what's the difference? The mayor of Kaunas just made him an honorary citizen and Lithuanian President Grybauskaitė is in Belgrade (she's not bad for 62, but then Lithuanians are notoriously hot). I'm taking the points.

The second game features our hero Luka and the pretty boys from Real Madrid against CSKA Moscow. The Russians are 3 and a half point favorites and the over is a lofty 170.5. Madrid is finally at full strength with last season's MVP Sergio Llull looking like his old self, but his emergence has slowed Doncic who's just scoring 10 a game in the playoffs. Moscow gets the best defender on the continent back in Kyle Hines so Madrid will look to make this perimeter contest with their superior guard play.  I'm not inclined to bet against Russians because they cheat nor Madrid because they have the rising superstar, so I'm going to take the over and just enjoy the show.

People always complain about extra days off at this time of the playoffs but I would rather give the guys plenty of time to travel and rest so that we get to see their best effort.  Even if it means that I watch the game Saturday rather than Friday.

You fix me up right every day, day after day for months and months then cut me off and expect me to care about rest, and quality of play, and ratings? Junkie gonna fiend.

not to be a total soccer geek here but I think you mean a combo of Champions League and Final Four.

The Euroleague is club based not national team based.

I have no clue what I meant so thanks for the help. I did read something confusing a little about Llull and Doncic both playing for other Spanish teams this year before combining at Real Madrid. I didn't care enough to dig in and understand. But seriously, I'll have these games on tomorrow morning now that I know about them and already had the streams. I'll keep reading a little today to learn a little more about the rosters and whatever. Kinda into it given the conversation yesterday about Euros in the NBA.

in short, there are two types of teams in world sport.

Club teams: Celtics, Lakers, Real Madrid etc

International Teams:  US, Brazil, Spain, etc

Club teams compete in club tournaments: NBA playoffs, Euroleague etc

International teams compete in international tournaments: Olympics, World Cup etc

Any one can play on any club team.  But you need to be a citizen of said country to represent them at the international level.

I wouldn't really call American sports franchises clubs.  Apples and oranges.

Huh? Curry was the primary defender on Harden for 13 possessions - Harden had eight points and his teammates had another four.

In contrast, Harden guarded Curry on 12 possessions which led to Curry eight points and another eight for his teammates.
Update on game 2 stats?  I don't know how you pull those possession breakdowns.

I know, but I was trying to help him understand the difference between club play and international play by using teams he was familiar with.

Even here in the US with our franchise system we still have that clear distinction between franchise and international country level.

hmm. Would be interesting if they did something similar with the players to have 2 MVP votes

Greyson Allen also surprising:

1st in Lane Agility Time

3rd in Shuttle Run

6th in Standing Vertical

6th in Max Vertical

ETA:  Looks like a number of players still to participate, or will not participate at all but still good results out of first ~40 players
