2017 Closer Thread: Bad Day To Be A Blake (1 Viewer)

Dropped moderate FAAB on both Oh and Tepera. Should've known better. When in doubt, always expect a manager to go with Tyler ####### Clippard.
They said after the game it will be a true committee and I have more faith in Oh and Tepera to actually hold the job but I also added Oh and Tepera everywhere, so WTF do I know.

As a plan fir future saves, I would advise you all to grab Kirby Yates if he’s available in your league. I don’t think there is any way the Padres hold on to Brad Hand past the trade deadline. Peeler has been on record before saying that a closer is a luxury for a team if theyarenot in contention. I think they definitely will move him for a prospect(s).

I'd feel better if he wasn't 31.  Purchased 2x and waived 2x in the last 4 years.  Think the Yanks or Angels couldn't use him now.......

Yates and Stammen are almost as likely to be traded at the deadline as Hand is.
Stammen is a UFA in 2020, Yates and Hand are 2022.  So I'd say Stammen most likely to be dealt, Hand next because of his left-handedness, then Yates.

But betting on Yates is pretty weak sauce in mid May IMO, Phil Maton might be the better bet.

Thoughts on what's going to happen in SF when Melancon comes off DL?
He's not eligible to come off the 60-day until the end of May.  At this point, I'm hoping he has no more setbacks and is able to get MiLB players out during a rehab assignment.  I doubt he'll go straight into a high leverage role when he gets back to the big club.

I picked up Rondon, Johnson, and Ramos. Ramos, even in that situation seems like the most appealing, but I can’t really get excited about any of these guys.

Anderson may be volatilebut at least he has displayed swing-and-miss stuff and even after one failed attempt he got another shot.

I have Minter (holds league) and he hasn't really lived up to expectations.  Winkler has been much better.
No doubt.  Winkler already was nabbed in my league.  I figure I have about 5 days until I will need that roster spot again (next Monday is light in terms of games I think), so might as well see what happens with Minter on my roster.

Iglesias somehow strained his non-throwing arm and is headed to the DL.

I think this prompts the need for a 'to all the girls I tossed to before' parody song.

Any gut call on who it'd be if he does switch? I'm guessing no, since you're holding both.
Well, I was completely wrong last time but Tepera has the best stuff of the group, has been used in high leverage/8th inning and he would be who I would be using to close, so if I could only roster one, it's still him.

Gibbons has some "proven closer" love, so the next best would be Oh I would think but that's also what I thought when Osuna left and they went with Clippard, so basically   (and we can't even rule out Axford).

Amir Garrett pitched the 8th and opened the 9th with three lefties coming up.  He gave up a two-run HR to Austin Meadows before handing over a one-run lead to Jared Hughes.  Hughes recorded the final two outs.

Clear as mud  :X

To me, Amir until there is a righty due up is the optimal strategy.  Not many teams will have 3 straight lefties so I doubt he gets many saves.

Alex Colome traded to Seattle which kills all his fantasy value.

Maybe the Rays can use Romo to start and finish every game.

So... Alvarado?
Alvarado has the best stuff but he's a lefty.  Saving a few bucks three years from now when he's arbitration eligible wouldn't be the Rayziest decision this club has made.

Romo is the likely choice but I took a SB flyer on Chaz Roe because he's tall, right handed and has a cool name.  He's historically had his problems against LH bats though.

One bad start from Romo and he’s going to lose his starting gig??

So, it looks like Tepera, though based on the box score, he made an honest effort to blow it. I haven't seen the Tepera this year, but hasn't he been a little shaky in his few 9th/save-ish situations?

Clippard also giving up a run. Oh's been lights out in 6th/7th other than the OAK implosion.

Somehow this keeps getting muddier.

It's taken some time but I feel like Tepera will stick here for a bit. Saves Friday and Sunday. Gibbons did say Oh would have gotten the chance Saturday.
