2017 New York Jets: Robby Anderson has been arrested in Florida for the second straight offseason. This is why we can't have nice things. (1 Viewer)

The NFL has pretty much nailed down any way to cheat the cap - if it's paid, it's hitting the cap.

Gonna be hilarious when Brady gets a cushy "consulting" gig or a small piece of the team ownership after he hangs em up

There will be no consulting gig or team ownership, but on his death bed, Belichek will grant Brady eternal consciousness.

Only in a Jets thread can you come in looking to see the fan reaction to their new QB and they're talking about Belichick.

FTR; I like McCown... and Powell.

Are you expecting the Jets to draft a back or roll with Forte/Powell?  Powell lit it up in PPR; nice per carry too but might lack break away speed?

With Forte being 31 and Powell 29 (once season starts), while I'm not sure I can say I "expect" the Jets to draft a RB, I would not be surprised by it.

I see many Jet fans calling for them to take Fournette at 1.06. I like Fournette a lot but that would be idiotic imo - they would waste most of his rookie contract before they will be any good.

Powell should have a nice season though, as I expect them to let him take over as the feature back, as he's earned his shot by staying around and improving each season. Forte will likely be phased out quickly and if his contract wasn't guaranteed he probably would have been released.

Kiper's latest mock has the Jets taking OJ Howard at 1.06. The backlash on the Jets taking another early TE would be pretty funny to see - but I actually do not hate the pick. I think he's going to be a stud and would help out any young QB tremendously. If they do take him, the Jets may have a pretty surprisingly decent offense until McCown gets hurt.

1) IMO most of the Jets fans Fear of TE's came from the 1993-1995 Drafts of Johnny Mitchell and Kyle Brady....   A lot of fans from then are Dead.. Younger kids with most energy for Backlash weren't burned as badly.. Keller or Amaro were both disappointments but, not the same kinda "OMG JETS TE AGAIN" Pain

2) 1993/1995 was also a different era for TE's...... I think it can be a more vital position and one the Jets have had zero talent at forever....

Keller actually had a pretty decent career. You're correct though about the real bad TE picks being so long ago.

I think the 1.06 may be a little early for him but if they could trade back a little (say with Cleveland), I'd love to see him in Green and White.

Isn't this the case with whoever the Jets draft at 1.06?

Not sure about that one... a good friend of mine played TE for the Jets in SB III.  Yes, I know it seems like forever but it was only 48 years ago.

ETA: I guess 48 years is a long time. He played DE; I should have known better... He never could catch.

If the Jets wanna go back to old-school picking ways they should go FB at pick #6

Guessing the Jets hire Marvin Lewis as their DC next year then sign Dalton to continue the streak of signing 3rd tier FA white QB's

I've been wanting us to draft OJ Howard, but lots of good TE depth in this draft. Might be better off going with the Safety in the first and going with another TE in the second or third round. Either way, I hope we can drop a few spots and pick up another second or third round pick.

would love to drop a few spots - pick up another 2d and grab OJ Howard....if thats to happen someone, likely a QB, needs to get hot and entice someone to jump up.

Buffalo is a potential landing spot for a QB. Cleveland has enough ammo to move up a few spots. Maybe Arizona as well. Assuming we don't go for a QB, we could be a trade partner.

Yeah, ideally for the Jets the Browns fall in love with one of the QBs and swap the 12 (+) for the 6 which would allow the Jets to consider OJ Howard at the 12 slot.

ok we all took a much needed few weeks off...draft is a week away - what are we thinking?  some random thoughts

I cant remember being so down on having a high 1st rd pick...just figures that the year they have a top pick there is no big time cant miss talent...seems like lots of good players but lots of warts as well.  Also sitting at 6 they are not in control of destiny - besides #1 I really am not sure how the top 5 is going to break...Im hoping for an offensive pick as that side of the ball has been ignored in the 1t rd for yrs...plus some of the defensive guys scare me a bit....so ill start with offense and later hit the d.....feel free to chime in...this is a huge draft for this regime....

QB - this is what bums me out - #1 need on the team is QB....none of the potential 1st rders excite me...Trubisky reminds me of Sanchez and Watson a bit of Geno/Vince Young - good college QBs but not sure built for the pros.  Mahomes scares me to as a product of the system....from what I can gather these QBs are not highly regarded ranked when compared to past classes so its more desperation for the position that would get them drafted in top half of the 1st.  plus Hackenburg looms and we still dont know what hes about.......MM has said that he'll draft a QB every year until he gets it right so I can see him drafting one...I just hope they trade down and at least get some other picks if they do it.

OT - definitely could use a LT of the future - no stud prospect of course but maybe a trade down to 20 or so and grab highest on the board...id be ok with that if it was a big haul

TE - I'm warming up to this more and more....TE position has been a black hole for decades....gives a young QB a nice tall playmaking option and help on the line...I could live with OJ Howard at #6 but would rather trade down a few slots...may be a risk though as hes a stud.  Also like Njoku who they could also trade down and get....I'd rather have Howard as hes a playmaker sorely needed.

RB - speaking of playmakers - Im a huge Fournette fan if he falls....is it a huge need?  no but as Mac showed he is married to BPA and this kid may be it...what would help a young QB more than a stud RB to give the ball and dump off to....save some tread year 1 with Forte/Powell and let him loose yr 2..when they have a ton of $ to spend.... if not Fournette I would wait until middle rds unless a toip one slips to the 2d

WR - not a lot of buzz on WR but wouldnt shock me if they grab one since losing BM....I could see Corey Davis or Mike Williams...Id much prefer the bigger/physical one in Williams if they go that way.....

Rumors Jets and Browns are discussing a pick 6 for pick 12+ trade - not sure if it's contingent on Trubisky (or another player) falling during the draft - but I'm all for the Jets adding some more picks.

give me the 12th pick and a 2d and i would do it in a heartbeat.

ESPN New York's Rich Cimini is "pretty sure" the Jets will take LSU S Jamal Adams at No. 6 overall, "unless someone else is unexpectedly available."
There's no telling who that "someone else" is, but it sounds like Adams is squarely in the Jets' crosshairs. The Jets appear to be proactively tanking the 2017 season, and their first-round draft approach may be to secure a high-floor asset who's less likely than other prospects to miss. Adams checks that box as a quality pass and run defender who would immediately start for Gang Green.

I know most will be tired of the Jets always going defense in round 1, but this would not be a bad move imo. The defense is still strong in the front seven and building up the defense further could help make the transition to competing go quicker once they finally address the QB position. If the team plays good defense and runs the ball with Powell and Forte at least they can likely keep games close. They aren't going to win this year no matter what but if their defense looks solid the fans can at least start getting excited for 2018.

would love to compile as many picks as we can this season.. moving down is option 1, I'll always be down with taking a QB until we find one.. don't care which round

I really like Adams - he seems to be what Pryor should have been (thats another issue drafting 1st rde safeties only a few yrs apart) ....but count me in for dying for offensive talent.  I wouldnt be upset if it was Adams as he's clearly a stud but its time for an offensive playmaker IMO.

I like Hooker, Adams, and Watson. I have always liked O.J. Howard too but I don't know if I like him at pick six.

Alvin Kamara or Peppers in round 2 would be cool. It is possible they could both be available.

ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reports the Jets could select Alabama TE O.J. Howard at No. 6 overall.

Widely considered the best player in an unusually deep tight end class, Howard is a freak athlete at 6-foot-6, 251 pounds. The Jets haven't had a proper tight end for years, and lack weapons on offense. Were Howard to actually come off the board at No. 6, he would be the first tight end to go in the top six since Vernon Davis in 2006.

I was surprised Adams was still available. As soon as the Titans pick was made I was hoping the Jets would take Adams. I really thought the Bears or 49ers would have selected him.

I'm sure the kid is a great player, but it just more same stuff, different year with this franchise.

They're basically spending another draft pick on D to replace the mediocre draft pick they made 3 years ago. Now they'll move Pryor (and Richardson) for pennies on the dollar after the draft. Still no QB, so they have nothing. Nobody has ever own anything because of a safety.

I'm not gonna say that I KNOW that Deshaun Watson is going to be some great QB. But I'm pretty confident that he's a lot better than Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty.

I don't need to watch 1 game this year to know how its going to play out. The Jets will stink all year, luck their way into a couple of wins they shouldn't get and finish with one too many to get Sam Darnold or whoever else emerges at the top of the 2018 QB class. You can put it on the board right now.

8 defensive first round draft picks in a row.

2016- Lee. Seems like a nice enough player, but the jury is still out

2015- Williams. Looks like a home run but so did Wilkerson and Richardson

2014- Pryor- 1 good year sandwiched by 2 mediocre year and now likely out the door

2013- Milner (garbage) and Richardson (talent but likely gone due to attitude and inconsistent effort)

2012- Coples- garbage

2011- Wilkerson- great until he got paid. Now who knows

2010- Kyle Wilson- garbage

At some point, the strategy has to change.

Don't hate the Pick... REALLY wanted Howard.

Huge Red Flag to me is the rumor that Macc tried to trade to the 2nd pick to Get Adams......I like Adams a lot but, if they gave one of those hauls we saw to move up for him I wouldn't be happy - Heard a lot of pundits saying as those trades came "You do that for a QB period - not a S".... LOL

I would have been a step closer to being off the Macc train like I was when Idzik slept through 12 picks....

Crazy how a Draft with "No Franchise QB" wound up with all those trades - If next year's QB crop lives up to the hype then the Draft is gonna be nuts. Especially with CLE stacked again with picks...

SOOOOO Jealous of those teams that traded back, got their targets and 1st round 18' picks

EVERY year Jets fans Dream of trading back and EVERY year Pre-draft ppl say, "Oh that's such a long shot, takes 2 teams to tango, NOBODY wants to trade up"Then BAM - Every freaking year some OTHER team gets a haul of picks in their lap from some random unexpected team... But, NOT us....

Oh well...... Offense still gonna suck - Defense still gonna give QB's all Day to find open WR"s on our CB crew...

Tank is ON.....  Nice Job.

Picking Watson would've been a terrible decision. That he's better than Hackenberg is barely relevant. They got one of the best players in the draft.

It reminds me of landing Williams back in 2015. I was very pleased.

Could be interesting for Jets to reunite Barnidge with McCown now that he's available.
ETA- Eh, looked at last year's game log. Not so interesting.

I agree with you here for sure, but I still agree with this pick last night.  Not that it matters, but let's be honest, if the Jets drafted Watson at 6, because it's the Jets, we would all be analyzing whether or not it was a reach and then asking who the hell is going to coach this kid.  Because Houston/Bill O'Brien traded up for him, it is now perceived as a calculated move by a franchise that is looking to secure its missing piece, led by a coach with half a ####in clue on how to develop a quarterback.

I also fully agree that we will be bad next year (at least they're trying for the tank job on paper) but likely not bad enough to be in a position to draft QB1 as the Browns snipe him with their 27 draft picks.

Oh, and it would totally be the Jets thing to do to draft one of these outcast QBs in the early 2nd.  That'll be one more shovel on the Mac casket for me.

From Draft Analyst (never heard of but Rapoprt also just mentioned their interest in Webb. :(

I’m told both the Los Angeles Chargers and New York Jets have quarterback Davis Webb in their sights and each team is trying to move up to secure his services. It’s a good possibility any of the teams selecting from picks 33 to 37 would be amicable to trading down for the right compensation

There are 2 sides of the ball, right?
Getting the sense of a true tank season. Which really wouldn't be the worst thing.

Really - they have a decent young WR core - let these guys develop and see which one or two are your keepers. Let Powell and Forte run. QB will be lousy, and they will struggle to score points. 2-14

Ok, that's really the rose colored glasses version. I wanted a WR or TE there.

You can tank without drafting 2 safeties inside of 40 picks.  Take the damn CB that Philly took that can't play this year if you're gonna stay in the secondary!!!

I liked the Adams pick, but a second safety? I know the secondary was a trainwreck, but damn. I'm ok with the third round WR, but Mac sucks at trading. He got lousy value each time. We dropped 20 spots from the third to the 5th for the 20th pick of the sixth round. Jesus.

Anyone see the press conference on Periscope? Does Bowles have a pulse? He's gotta to go. I'm close to losing faith in Mac if I haven't done so already after tonight.

Had a buddy texting me all night that he had no problem with taking another safety because we "had a hole there, so why not?  What if he becomes a Pro Bowler??"

Jet fans gonna Jet fan
