Maybe they thought he was related to Dave MegettWell they added two potentially playmakers at WR so that should only help Petty and Hack once they get their chance.
They finally addressed TE but they took a guy nicknamed "Lazy Leggett" due to his poor work ethic. At least they have Sefarin-Jenkins who can take this kid under his wing and teach him how to get the most out of his talents.
I'm ok with McCown starting the season just to get the offense going and evaluate the WRs a little, but if he's not injured by Week 5 then whoever won the backup QB between Petty and Hack should be out there and I'd like to see the other get some starts as well.interesting interview with Woody yesterday - he admitted total rebuild and said it was the first time they are not taking shortcuts in his entire tenure....also admitted QB is key....this gave me some hope...maybe the days of Favre, Tebow, Fitz and other "get good quick" big splashes are a thing of the past....Also seems like he is giving the mgt/team and coach a lot of rope as long as the kids progress....Im not a Bowles fan but I do think its unfair to have a playoff mandate this year....with that out there hopefully Bowles is comfortable playing the kids this yr instead of wasting time with McCown and the older vets.
Good call. I started to vehemently disagree with McCown at all if you're full rebuild, but getting the line and protections right before putting the young guy in there is sensible, and good point about getting looks at the WR. If Decker is ever healthy they should trade him to a contender and just let all the young WR/TE soak up reps. They have some nice base talent so the faster they can get them experience the better.I'm ok with McCown starting the season just to get the offense going and evaluate the WRs a little, but if he's not injured by Week 5 then whoever won the backup QB between Petty and Hack should be out there and I'd like to see the other get some starts as well.
I don't know. Woody once said that we should build through the draft and then the next season went out and spent like a drunk sailor. What else could he say about this upcoming season? We didn't have the cap space to spend this season and we weren't going to win with last year's team.interesting interview with Woody yesterday - he admitted total rebuild and said it was the first time they are not taking shortcuts in his entire tenure....also admitted QB is key....this gave me some hope...maybe the days of Favre, Tebow, Fitz and other "get good quick" big splashes are a thing of the past....Also seems like he is giving the mgt/team and coach a lot of rope as long as the kids progress....Im not a Bowles fan but I do think its unfair to have a playoff mandate this year....with that out there hopefully Bowles is comfortable playing the kids this yr instead of wasting time with McCown and the older vets.
Yep.These dopes will lose all year long unintentionally due to a lack of talent and bad coaching, but then win some game at the end of the season to hurt our draft spot and a chance to land a top QB. It's almost written in stone.
I cant argue with the Woody comment - he's been a big splash owner his entire tenure...let's see if the sting of Revis sticks and he stays with the rebuild plan when they have a ton of $ next offseason.I don't know. I've lost all faith in this management. They had a chance to play some young guys last year, yet we saw Fitz get a million chances and several veterans mail it in with no loss in playing time.

but overall this team is too young to win that many games even with a decent stopgap QB like McCown
and brittleI mean the guy has a Career 18-42 Record... He's 2-20 in his last 3 years!!!!...
The perfect TANK QB...lol. Plus he's Old and White so by definition he's a smart mentor...
Yep like I said "(and he's capable of losing games with dumb decisions as well)."I mean the guy has a Career 18-42 Record... He's 2-20 in his last 3 years!!!!...

I guess there was little chance that they could get more for a guy they were clearly going to release but I get your sentiment.Jets trade disappointing former 1st round pick Calvin Pryor to the Browns and get back ... disappointing, 4 years older, former Jets draft pick Demario Davis.![]()
With every move my faith in this regime grows weaker and weaker.
This. His value was basically nil and they got SOMETHING in return. Davis may end up getting cut but whatever.Pryor was garbage last year. I'm not sure what you guys think the going rate is for garbage. It doesn't matter what round he was picked.
Addition by subtraction. For a heavy hitter, he couldn't tackle. He always took bad angles, his coverage was horrific, and his attitude was suspect.
I am outraged too. They should have traded him for Aaron Rodgers.Jets trade disappointing former 1st round pick Calvin Pryor to the Browns and get back ... disappointing, 4 years older, former Jets draft pick Demario Davis.![]()

Of course I've seen some really bogus headlines on this incident that said "two Jet players fight at a festival". Meanwhile when you watch the video all you see is Williams being smart and a good friend/teammate stepping in between Lee and a potential disaster. He only puts hands on Lee to get him out of the situation (and basically shows how big and strong he is by carrying Lee around like he's a doll). The Williams pick was a steal at the time and now he's showing some leadership off the field. Great job, Leonard!kodycutter said:
It's about saving money and evaluating younger guys. I saw an article that an ESPN analyst predicted an 0-16 season for the Jets. I did not read it, but I do see it moving closer and closer in that direction.Well...he was a very good player in his Jets career, but he was too slow now and they weren't going to re-sign him after this season. Might as well prep for the future, but I doubt Davis is it. So, I guess it's about saving money unless they integrate some young players. It gives Connor Harris a better chance of making the team.
The timing does seem a little odd.I know it's a business move but this is a really lame way to ditch a guy like this. He freaking practiced this morning
Honestly, they may as well let Decker go as well and take a better look at the young guys. They can carry the cap space over I believe.Speaking Tuesday, Jets coach Todd Bowles said he wasn't sure if the team had approached Eric Decker about a pay cut, or if his roster spot was in danger.
It's a bizarre thing for a coach to say about his No. 1 receiver. Even with the Jets rebuilding, Decker's roster spot hasn't been believed to be in danger, but perhaps the calculus should change following Tuesday's surprising release of inside linebacker and team leader David Harris. The Jets are gutting the roster as they wave the white flag and rebuild. It still seems more likely than not that Gang Green proceeds with Decker as its No. 1 wideout. Cutting Decker would create $5.75 million in cap space, but there's nothing the Jets could do with that money at this point in the offseason.

My guess is Mac convinced Woody of the tear down approach....he was quoted as calling it an all out rebuild which is a first for back page Woody....it's 100% the right move...if all goes well they develop the kids this yr and either one of the young QBs take a big step fwd or they stink and can finally draft a franchise QB....they should be ready for a run just as Brady is hangin it up.I'd really love to be a fly on the wall in Florham Park to find out who is driving this. They weren't going anywhere, so these are the right moves (Although I worry about a leadership void on defense with Harris gone. Who controls Richardson now or holds Wilkerson accountable if he loafs all season again?) but I would love to know who decided.
I just worry that this means Bowles is 100% safe. How can you fire a guy after you give him this group to coach?
