Just messing with you. I saw the Bruins were mentioned there too.Evander Kane to the Wild?
they were after Scandella it seems. Not sure what they'd be giving up. Maybe Sabres are after him too.Just messing with you. I saw the Bruins were mentioned there too.
Yep, not even their pride. The hockey thread will be pleased to know that the Bruins have nothing left from the Seguin trade. (According to twitter)
The beautiful part of that deal is just like the Joe Thornton deal you knew it was horrible trade right from the get-go...I never had an issue with dealing Seguin but the return was so embarrassing and it's even worse now...somehow they dealt Seguin and Jumbo Joe and did not get one draft pick back in-return...The hockey thread will be pleased to know that the Bruins have nothing left from the Seguin trade. (According to twitter)
woof. hated that deal the moment it was signed. no idea how you give a guy that inconsistent that many years. but all the number nerds loved him.Oilers buying out Pouliot. Has 2 years left at $4MM per.
that escalated quicklyThe hockey thread will be pleased to know that the Bruins have nothing left from the Seguin trade. (According to twitter)
I can't figure out why they didn't just eat the cost for another year to get more cap space after the McDavid/Draisaitl contracts kick in.woof. hated that deal the moment it was signed. no idea how you give a guy that inconsistent that many years. but all the number nerds loved him.
Shocking. The Umberger for Hartnell trade makes a little more sense now, right? One more cap hit to go for RJ vs four for Hartnell.Blue Jackets buying out Scott Hartnell.

they did get 1 good and 1 decent year out of him before he fell off a cliff this year.Shocking. The Umberger for Hartnell trade makes a little more sense now, right? One more cap hit to go for RJ vs four for Hartnell.
No doubt they got good value from him, I'm surprised they did buy him out. The Clarkson point makes sense.they did get 1 good and 1 decent year out of him before he fell off a cliff this year.
Umberger was pretty much useless.
Trading away that Clarkson contract made this more of an option.
GOALIES
Early predictions are: Chad Johnson to Buffalo, Brian Elliott to Philadelphia, Steve Mason to Winnipeg, Ryan Miller to Anaheim, Antti Niemi to Pittsburgh, Anders Nilsson to Vancouver.
Washington’s set a high price on Philipp Grubauer.
DEFENCEMEN
Two that seem close — if not done — are Trevor Daley (Detroit) and Dan Girardi (Tampa Bay).
The Rangers are determined to be modest, which takes them out of the Kevin Shattenkirk race unless something really changes. Buffalo is believed to be a serious suitor. There was some talk Dallas might try a short-term deal, but not sure where that stands after Marc Methot’s arrival.
It’s been well-reported that Karl Alzner visited Montreal, and it sounds like the Canadiens are serious.
Mentioned earlier this week that both Ottawa and Winnipeg were looking at Dmitry Kulikov. I’d link both teams with Michael Stone, too, because there are “intangible” fits to both cities. But he’s a right shot as opposed to a left one, which is what those teams are looking for.
With Elliott you know who to blame.Friedman predicting Brian Elliott to the Flyers. Bernier, Elliott, whatever.![]()
lots of buzz seems to point to Shattenkirk ending up with the Sabres.
I hope the way things ended for him in Washington keeps his price tag down somewhat.
if he wants to play close to home, maybe Jersey is his best option.Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie 22m22 minutes ago
Expect Devils to be among most serious and aggressive bidders for Shattenkirk.
good goalie blame market, the legend continuesFriedman predicting Brian Elliott to the Flyers. Bernier, Elliott, whatever.![]()
Yup. Agree. And I think there is no way he becomes a Ranger. Which is fine if they continue to get younger and fiscally more responsible.I'd want no part of Shattenkirk at the price / term he seems likely to command.
How much you think he'll get?I'd want no part of Shattenkirk at the price / term he seems likely to command.
Hasn't been any good for several years now. But he should come cheap. Is Dan Girardi total garbage? Sounds like he's pretty much a done deal to come to Tampa and Bolts twitter.....is not excited.
So a 5/6 D? Yzerman does seem to have a weak spot for these older gritty grinder types.Hasn't been any good for several years now. But he should come cheap.
At best probably. He never provided much offense and he's too slow to defend good forwards. So a 5/6 D? Yzerman does seem to have a weak spot for these older gritty grinder types.
Well, he supposedly refused to waive his NMC for a sign and trade with Tampa for 6 x 7 years, and that's a great contract, team, and place to live. So... way too much probably. How much you think he'll get?
So why the hell is he doing this. Reminds me of the Morrow signing. At best probably. He never provided much offense and he's too slow to defend good forwards.
Maybe he wants to increase the number of pucks blocked by the team.So why the hell is he doing this. Reminds me of the Morrow signing.
I'd like to see what Housley can do with him. If it's much more than 7 X 7 though, I'd probably pass.Well, he supposedly refused to waive his NMC for a sign and trade with Tampa for 6 x 7 years, and that's a great contract, team, and place to live. So... way too much probably.
ETA: He's by far the best D (and overall player) available in this crap class IMO, and someone will be stupid.
Also first time I ever heard someone say Florida was a great place to live.
I know. Weirdos.this state is overstuffed with people, particularly northerners.
Pretty great 8 months out of the year. Hell on earth right now though.I know. Weirdos.
Veteran depth would be my my guess. There gonna be pretty young back there. So why the hell is he doing this. Reminds me of the Morrow signing.
Take it you've never been to Manitoba in the winter, then. Also first time I ever heard someone say Florida was a great place to live.
Sure there was a very high probability that Panarin would leave or be traded but this is 100% due to Hossa not playing this year and possibly never again.Absolutely. IMO, though, the 8 figure cap hit contracts should be reserved for guys who you don't really need to cater to in terms of linemates. And the other reason behind that trade was the fact that they were guaranteed to lose Panarin in two years partly because of the very contract we're discussing.that's a big reason why they re-acquired Saad. Toews hasn't really clicked with anybody since they traded him. His most common linemates this year were Richard Panik and Nick Schmaltz. Averaging .8 pts/game with those guys on your wing isn't too shabby imo.
Too old and beat up to be a grinder either. So a 5/6 D? Yzerman does seem to have a weak spot for these older gritty grinder types.
With his contract structure, it seemed like the plan was for him to retire this year all along. Why does losing a 3rd line old winger mean they had to ship out Panarin?Sure there was a very high probability that Panarin would leave or be traded but this is 100% due to Hossa not playing this year and possibly never again.
Well there isn't another Top 6 wing that can play in all situations like Hossa has historically and likely would have again this year. Saad can fill that role and it cost them Panarin to do so.With his contract structure, it seemed like the plan was for him to retire this year all along. Not sure it's possible for an NHL fan to not know Commodore.I don't know who Mike Commodore is, but he says Shattenkirk is going to either NYR or Boston. Pretty sure he is making things up
Well Hossa wasn't going to play forever on a $1MM/yr salary. I think every other player who hits that point of their deal hangs up the skates or heads to Europe.Well there isn't another Top 6 wing that can play in all situations like Hossa has historically and likely would have again this year.
