**2017 Preseason Observations Thread** (1 Viewer)

He's still the #1 rb in KC lol its hilarious when a a rb out if no where i called is the starting rb for KC and thats your sick burn. Lol you.
Yeah because you called numerous people morons and when he disappeared in the second half you wouldn't post a thing but were mouthing off in other threads. Guess he's elite if he has a chance to still start now.

Trubisky forced a couple throws tonight but still playing with the 3s, getting no blocking, and terrible WRs not getting open. Fox is an idiot

Quick thoughts on Bears/Cards:

Palmer going to have much better year overall, looking good again. Always going to have more picks than the elite QBs but I'll gladly wait until every other team has picked a QB and snatch him

Glennon belongs in the NFL, just not sure he has what it takes to be a legit number one. We will find out shortly.

Trubisky could come in and not look horrible in the process, but I'm sitting him fit this season if it is up to me. If Glennon has a decent year, send him to a team that needs a capable starter and get some good draft picks.

Tarik Cohen and Howard may quickly form a top 5 RB tandem in this league. They compliment each other perfectly.

Gurley at the end of the 2nd is looking better to me now.

Then again...this just in...Raiders D is not improved at all. Ugh.

The sad part is is that last years Rams O made bad defense's look good (re: the 49's in game 1) so it's at the very least an improvement

The truth is you haven't ever made a call like that in your life. Enjoy all the money you win off my posts. Lol so dumb.

D'onta Foreman looks good; texans will have to play Miller because of his contract but won't be surprised if Foreman started mid season or next year. That 65 yard run after the catch was nice and that TD as well

His early schedule is gold.

Again, I cant believe how underrated this rookie class. So many possible contributors from all positions. I dont know who to keep or drop at the end of my dynasty roster.

Palmer is great to pair with Luck with that easy early schedule in case Luck is not ready the first few weeks.
I'm still not sure I want to take that plunge on Luck. His ADP right now is late 7th, but the Colts really worry me.

I agree with the 7th, I was able to get Luck in the 10th as the 10th QB off the board. I may have jumped on Palmer a little early in the 13th but I wanted to pair him with Luck.

That's reasonable. However, I read some of what Pagano is saying and it sounds like a coach that knows things are going south fast.

Already nervous about my TY teams where he's my #1. Hoping for the best but I'm generally passing on the Colts in new drafts. Even if Luck gets back, how long can he hold up behind that line?

Seems like a really nice guy but I have no clue why Chuck Pagano still has a job.  Oh wait, Jim Irsay.  Makes Daniel Snyder look insightful.

"I can neither confirm nor deny that Andrew Luck may or may not be ready for Game 1 but I can say unequivocally that he will be ready for the regular season assuming of course that he is not not ready I believe, or at least that is my current understanding as things stand today until something changes unless it doesn't."

The loss of Ryan Kelly has really been understated. Forget about any rust on Luck, Kelly pulled that line together last year and he will be out for weeks

100% true btw and why ill never listen to a thing he posts ever again.

Palmers receiving core is ancient possession wr and nobody else

Also great to pair with Rivers:

  • Chargers (1st 7 games): @DEN, MIA, KC, PHI, @NYG (cross country game at 10 am PST), @OAK, DEN
  • Cardinals (1st 7 games): @DET, @IND, DAL, SF, @PHI, TB, @LAR
Per FBG ultimate SOS, Rivers has the hardest schedule in the league in the first 5 games, while Palmer has the 4th easiest.

Dak is a great QB but the ship is starting to sail on being able to acquire him cheaply...........The QB I'd want to get right now on any of my dynasty teams for cheap is Mitch Trubisky.

Absolutely but still I don't see much upside with Palmer
Two years ago he was a top 6 QB. There really wasn't much difference in talent. I agree though that there isn't a ton of big upside, but he's going around QB16 so it's more of a solid floor play.

Yes but 2 years ago he had a 2 years younger fitz, sober Floyd, and brown was healthy. Qb16 is perfect but people who want to rely on him as a qb they can draft late thinking they are getting a cheap qb1 will be disappointed imo.

So I watched most of the highlight versions of each game this morning and I came up with a few notes, figured they'd be helpful to some:

Broncos vs 49ers

Joe Williams had a run where he literally ran right into his blocker and lowered his shoulder... Oh and then he fumbled... No thanks.

De'Angelo Henderson looks really good catching the ball and running well.

George Kittle had a great catch and run TD, pretty bad tackling from the Broncos D but impressive none the less.

If you own Paxton Lynch, I'd trade him and get whatever you can at this point.  He isn't the answer.  It's either Kelly next year or a QB from '18.

Patriots vs. Texans

Savage looks comfortable, I'd like to see him get rid of it a bit quicker but he's a better version of Siemian for fantasy purposes I think.

Bruce Ellington finally healthy and showing off a bit.  Dude looks good in an offense that needs pass catchers right now.

Dare I say this but Foreman looks an awful lot like Bell his rookie year.  Rotoworld has him listed at 235, we might end up seeing a similar change in body type.

Jaelen Strong ran a great route in the end zone and got open for a TD.  All this guy does is catch TD's but doesn't seem to have a volume type of role.

Brady and Garoppolo both look good and ready.  I get the sense that the offense will be more dink and dunk than ever before even with Cooks.  Every one of their pass catchers is great in space pretty much.

RB's are all good in their roles that they showed, unless you can read Belichick's mind, good luck figuring it out.  I'm not going to bother.

Chiefs vs. Bengals

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm focusing on lesser known names.  Demetrius Harris had a couple nice TD catches.  If my memory is right, he's a former basketball player convert whose been in the league 3 years now (this is year 4).

I'm curious about Spiller here, as a Tyreek Hill backup.  Spiller looked good running and catching so maybe they're going to use him in a similar fashion if something happens to Hill.  Pretty much all these Chiefs RB's are human joysticks, it's ridiculous.  Charcandrick West had a couple insane runs putting defenders on skates multiple times (against the 3's I think though).

Mahomes really impressed me on a scramble away from a defender about 10 yards behind the LOS, and then he fits a ball in a tight window.

I don't get the McCarron love for being a possible trade target of teams looking for a starting QB... I just don't see it.  He locks on targets and has slow footwork to me.

Packers vs Redskins

Marty B looking comfortable and Rodgers seems comfortable throwing to him.

I'm back on the Jeff Janis train.  I'm annoyed at this point he isn't more popular.  I think he was running with the 2's and 3's and a lot of people were writing him off as #5 or later on the depth chart.

Brett Hundley looks really good.  Trade target after this year for some teams?

Cousins looks ready to go with his new WR's.  Doctson healthy, TP and Crowder could be one of the best WR trio's in football.

Colts vs. Cowboys

Dak and Dez are going to be lethal for the duration of the Zeke suspension.

Tolzien is doing his best, don't give him a hard time.  I feel bad for the guy because even Luck, one of the best QB's in the league, gets hammered with that o-line.

Marlon Mack looks like a young Frank Gore breaking tackles through small gaps.

Noah Brown on his TD catch made a CB look like a fool.  Completely juked and caught the TD pretty wide open.  I can see the Cowboys going with size sometimes in Noah Brown or Brian Brown (who had a few catches himself), instead of the Beasley/Switzer route.

Jets vs. Lions

It pains me to watch the Jets.  Literally.  They're that bad.

Seriously though what chance does Hackenberg even have with that o-line?  He got blasted over and over again, no chance.  When he did have a pocket he looked calm (same with Petty).  Although Petty made some really bad choices with throws.

ZZ got a goal-line look subbing in for ABdullah, Dwayne Washington played #3 and looked good against lesser competition.

Panthers vs. Titans

Tre McBride running with the #1's?  He made a nice catch in the first 3 minutes of the game on the sideline that he had to adjust to.  Sleeper potential?  Or was that because no Corey Davis?  He was a favorite of mine 2 years ago.  Anyone heard anything here?  He went 4/73.

Derrick Henry had what, 1 nice run?  Other than the long TD run, he had a walk in TD

Christian McCaffrey looked amazing, unfortunately I don't own him anywhere but he looks like a long time starter.

Cameron Artis-Payne looked decent as well as a pretty good #3 on a team.  Could be worth something if there's an injury ahead of him.

I'm also convinced Kelvin Benjamin is good at nothing other than high point catches.

Rams vs. Raiders

Goff is ok?  He looked a lot better yesterday than week1 or at all last year.  Maybe it was just a good day, but it's encouraging I suppose.

Kupp was separating at ease most of the day and catching everything within sight.  Goff seemed to look his way a lot.

Lynch didn't look rusty or anything, just picking up where he left off and will be serviceable.  I doubt he's a RB1 though.

Whoever Lee Smith is the team was very hyped for his TD catch.

The Rams in general should be improved all around.  Gurley was looking better as well.

Who says Amari can't high point a ball?

Gerald Everett looks like a thick WR.  Could be really good.  They seem to be getting him involved early.

Josh Reynolds had a nice TD grab, but I'm honestly sick of these QB's throwing back corner TD's that are insanely underthrown.  It's happened like 10x this preseason already I feel.

Cardinals vs. Bears

Krishawn Hogan had 2 catches or whatever plus a fumble recovery on a kickoff, making a case for more playing time.  He's been one of my favorite fliers who sadly hasn't made it on many of my teams yet.

Tarik Cohen is going to eat into Howards carries, hopefully not a ton but he's here to stay it looks.

Is it weird that Gabbert looks better than Glennon?  Glennon did look better than last week though.

Deonte Thompson with a fieldgoal return for TD was fun to watch.  I think he's 4th or 5th on their depth chart for WR though.

Floyd was never good. I think Palmer absolutely can be a QB1 through the first few weeks.

Very nice write up. Thanks for taking the time to do this. Re: Packers and Redskins

Janis has had a very strong camp and playing his way back on to the team, or at least maintaining his role on the team. Too much WR depth on the team for him to have any sort of impact in FF. Nelson, Adams, Cobb and Allison are all in front of him. Not to mention Bennett at TE and Montgomery catching passes out of the backfield. McAffrey is having a very very strong camp as well and could push Janis as the #5.

Hundley has looked very good and confident. He will be a decent starter in the league some day.

I thought the Washington offense looked lost. Played the starters  until halftime. Never really got anything going until late in the 1st Q when Packers had 2nd & 3rd string in. They'll be alright once they get their chemistry down. Kelley looked pedestrian at RB.

I'm inclined to agree with your Floyd statement because he screwed me last year but I recall him pretty much being a WR1 second half of 2015. Palmer had 2 1000 yd receivers, a third who was on pace for that once he was healthy (Floyd)z and DJ that year. The man was set up for success, more so than he is now. I see him being a middling to high QB2

Unless a wr lights it up as a deep threat his ceiling is low. Don't see Nelson or Brown being good enough atm.

Deshaun Watson looked worse than last week.

Couple preseason series means little, but I don't like that I've seen no evidence he has pro accuracy.

Falcons doing pretty much whatever they want vs Steelers. Even 3rd string QB Simms is picking them apart. Also trying to show Brian Hill at RB

As long as Burkhead is being drafted in the double digit rounds he is a must-own this year.

Yeah, that hype train stopped dead. I didn't hear a peep about Watson this week. His 49mph fastball won't be starting anytime soon.
