**2017 Preseason Observations Thread** (1 Viewer)

run blitzing every play because they know clemens' arm is dead.

what an embarrassment for the chargers.  apparently both their starting tackles are out but good god this makes me worry about rostering any charger skill positions.
Bump Allen, Rivers won't have time to pass it to anyone else

Big. He put on a lot of muscle since I last saw him.
I agree. He was a bit wiry before. Looks like a physical nightmare for a CB if he wasn't  already. At least he used his downtime in a useful manner. He's creeping up my board.

I just hope all his other athletic gifts are in tact. I like him being stronger, but he was playmaker because of his speed so that is want I want to see more of.

Good point. I was watching his highlight package during pregame and he accelerates just so much faster than everyone else it's shocking.

Some things I noticed in this weeks games I thought odd:

1. This one has already been addressed with a rotoblurb but Snead and Fleener playing deep into the second half when the other "starters" were long gone.

2. In that same game Keenan Allen playing multiple series after Tyrell Williams, Melvin Gordon and both Gates and Henry had been pulled.

3. Leonard Fournette watching the game from a suite with what looked like his family and not on the sideline with this teammates which to me is an odd thing to see for any player but especially a rookie.

FWIW Payton said this was because they had been limited in practice and he wanted to get them reps to build their stamina.

Do you fully believe the the coach there?
No not fully which is why I used the word "somewhat" because I can't totally dismiss this usage.

Saints beat writer Mike Triplett expanded on this earlier and said he still had Snead penciled in as his #2 but that it was worth noting that Snead was listed as Ginn's backup on the unofficial depth chart and that Josh Hill started ahead of Fleener yesterday and he added that at the very least Snead and Fleener might need to keep earning their status in practice and games over next month. I can't say I spend a lot of time mulling this over because I've felt both players have been getting drafted several rounds before I ever considered taking them but if I had interest in these players I would not advocate going all officer Barbrady on this.

I don't know much about Rob Kelley to compare them. It is possible I suppose that Clement could have a run like Kelley if their other RB face plant/are injured.

I kind of doubt he makes the team.

I would expect Blount to be their main between the tackles runner, then Smallwood, then Clement. But maybe he has beaten out Smallwood already? Not sure about that.

Sproles and Pumphrey have a different role so I don't see them in direct competition with the other RB.
Training camp notes

• In something of a surprise development, Wendell Smallwood may be the starting running back this season. Sproles aside, Smallwood has been the best back in camp by a significant margin
.

He walked off and run to the locker room on his own so hopefully he's okay but he is definitely hurt.  Scary moment for a lot of fantasy owners I bet

Osweiller had a ball batted down and a couple inacurate passes....he's in midseason form.

Jabril Peppers two nice returns already.

Paul Perkins...no thanks.

kizer dumb play not sliding.

ankle injury and Possible concussion for Odell

Pretty easy to question that in hind-sight, the obvious answer is for reps with his 1's and against other's 1's.
Not really for me.  I have said for years teams shouldnt even think about playing their starters in any of these games if they could get away with it.  The risk/reward is simply not worth it.  Camp and the first couple of regular games should be enough to get things in synced where they need to be.  Beckham or any other star for a team has no business taking unnecessary hits for the sake of "reps".  You cannot convince me on any level that 4 preseason games is ever a good thing as a fan.

Brandon Marshall getting x-rays on shoulder

@Giants: Injury Update: X-rays on Odell Beckham Jr. came back negative; will undergo further examination. B. Marshall getting x-rays on his shoulder.
