2017 Raiders - how's the 2018 draft looking? (2 Viewers)

Love Jarrad Davis and Foreman picks if they came to fruition.  I was just coming here to suggest Foreman and an option I would like in middle rounds.  Davis might even be a 1st rounder, and I would be fine with that.

Why haven't we signed Blount?  He's the prototype of what we need to add and he's gotta be cheap.

Marshawn Lynch is in the Raiders facility!!!

On Marshawn Lynch: My understanding is that meeting with Jack Del Rio is the final hurdle. If the #Raiders coach signs off, dominoes fall.

Marshawn Lynch visiting with Oakland Raiders

The NFL may be one step closer to a Marshawn Lynch return.

The heralded power back was at the Oakland Raiders' facility on Wednesday, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The news was first reported by former Colts punter Pat McAfee.

I don't know why we are exploring this option. I'd rather have D'Onta Foreman. We couldn't agree to 5Mil for Brown, but we have money for a 30 year old RB. Really hope this doesn't come to fruition.

I hope it does come to fruition.

1. He is one of my favorite players to watch play the game and to watch him in a Raiders uniform would be awesome!!!

2. It would allow the Raiders to go into the draft not needing a bruising RB so they can concentrate the draft on mainly defense, defense, and more defense.

We currently have no one on the team that is a distraction. I worry about that and I worry that he doesn't have anything left in the tank. If we are making a decision based on putting people in the seats, it's a mistake. I guess time will tell.

NFL Draft Needs: Raiders

Tuesday, April 04, 2017
Evan Silva (@EvanSilva) is the Senior Football Editor for Rotoworld's NFL Page, and Josh Norris (@JoshNorris) leads Rotoworld's college football and NFL draft coverage. Together, they're breaking down every team's biggest needs and offering potential draft-day solutions.

Raiders No. 1 Team Need: Linebacker     It wouldn’t be overkill for the Raiders to address the second level of their defense with multiple additions. Talented on the edges, Jack Del Rio’s unit could take a big step forward by adding a dynamic three-down presence in the middle of the field. Assuming Oakland stays in a 3-4 defense as it played down the stretch, Ben Heeney, Cory James and Dolphins castoff Jelani Jenkins would be vying for two inside linebacker jobs if the season began today.

Raiders No. 2 Team Need: Running Back     DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard both flashed playmaking ability as rookies, but they best project as role-player change-up backs. Lead runner Latavius Murray walked in free agency. The Raiders were reported to have interest in DeMarco Murray two offseasons ago and Matt Forte last year. They also reportedly wanted Ezekiel Elliott in the draft, but he went long before their No. 14 pick. At the NFL Owners Meetings, GM Reggie McKenzie expressed interest in adding “a banger, a bigger body” to the backfield.

Raiders No. 3 Team Need: Pass Rusher     Last year’s Raiders finished dead last in sacks (25) and 30th in Football Outsiders’ Adjusted Sack Rate. While Khalil Mack has developed into a dominant force and Bruce Irvin is a solid complement with plus versatility, Oakland’s defense needs more ways to affect enemy quarterbacks. The Raiders have very little depth behind Mack and Irvin on the edges, and their interior line offered minimal pass-rush assistance last year.

Other Considerations: Slot Corner/Safety Depth, Offensive Tackle, Slot Receiver

Norris’ Mock Draft

Round 1 (24): CB Chidobe Awuzie, Colorado - Reggie McKenzie loved D.J. Hayden, but had to admit that mistake. It didn't work out. I could see McKenzie viewing Awuzie in a similar light, but actually worthy of a first-round pick. Awuzie offers slot experience, a trait that is difficult to find in higher-end college prospects.

Round 2 (56): LB Jarrad Davis, Florida - The Raiders prioritize athleticism at linebacker, with Heeney, Jenkins, and 2015 free agent signing Malcolm Smith fitting that mold. Davis is definitely a plus athlete. Davis dealt with an injury for a good portion of 2016, but he might be this year's Deion Jones.

Round 3 (88): RB D’Onta Foreman, Texas - The Raiders let Latavius Murray walk in free agency and added nothing to the roster. Foreman is an outstanding fit behind Oakland's lane-clearing offensive line, as he offers tremendous athleticism and big-play ability for a 235-pound back. Let him run through and away from those lanes.

Round 4 (129): EDGE Joe Mathis, Washington - Mathis certainly has his fans in the draft media. Pass rushers are difficult to come by on the third day, but Mathis could be available due to a foot injury.

Round 5 (168): LB Jayon Brown, UCLA - Brown flew under the radar on the all-star circuit, but he’s another linebacker with range.

Round 6 (208): DL Josh Tupou, Colorado - A massive body to help on the interior. True nose tackles are difficult to come by in this class.

Round 7 (242): WR Fred Ross, Miss State - A productive slot receiver.

Round 7 8 (244): OT Dan Skipper, Arkansas - Skipper is a massive man who will likely land on a practice squad.
Good analysis and draft targets. Foreman would be a great addition to the backfield. Would like to see us look for a strong ILB like Zach Cunningham or a Malik McDowell at DT if he drops in the first round, both to get some interior pressure going, but have no problems with Jarrad or a handfull of other promising ILBs like Reuben Foster (if he drops -- love his aggression) or Raekwon McMillan.

I hope we are targeting D'Onta, I think he would be a great fit in style to what we have. I like Mixon (in size/talent if not maturity) and Kareem Hunt from Toledo given that he is a good inside runner that's hard to bring down and has decent hands. Hope we stay away from Kamara if he's there and go for BPA at another position of need, I think he's highly versatile but not the kind of inside/short yardage back we need.

Retired RB Marshawn Lynch did, in fact, tell #Raiders he intends to un-retire and play again, I'm told. It's a long process, tho #BeastMode.

Are you saying we need a player that is a distraction or that Marshawn would be one?

I wonder if Seattle would look to trade Lynch. Even if it's a 7th or 6th rounder. Just get something for him. Unless they are going to just do the classy thing and release him. Classy and Schneider/Carroll are never used in the same sentence as a description however. So I fully expect Oakland to have to cough up a draft pick.

"classy thing"? C'mon. This is a business and competition. If Seattle, after all this public news that Lynch and the Raiders are talking, doesn't try to get at least a low round draft pick for Lynch (who is still contractually a Seahawk) they'd be plain old stupid, right?

They can try, but once Lynch files papers his salary hits their books.  They aren't going to want to carry almost $8M.  They may have cap room to do it for a while, but if Lynch threatens to report to any OTA's they aren't going to want to play the game and risk he gets hurt.  They may not be "classy" but they also don't want a public relations situation with a guy those fans loved and helped bring them a Superbowl and was available to help them win another if they had 1/4 of a brain.  I don't see us giving up a pick for him.

It's a business but at the end of the day you also need to maintain a good reputation among players. Who wants to play for a franchise that approaches these scenarios from a 100% business standpoint?

Lynch retired, and wanted to come back after a year of retirement. To play for a specific team- his hometown team. Seattle isn't losing anything. If he stayed retired it's not like they had something there.

If Lynch had not retired, or unretired before last season started and wanted to play again, then yes trading him is very appropriate. He's been retired for a season. What is Seattle losing by just cutting him? What value does Lynch hold? If I'm Lynch I say no you either cut me or I play for you. Then Seattle is over the cap with an 8 million dollar cap hit for a RB they don't want and don't need.

I think plenty of players would like to play for the Patriots.

meh. I'd want my team to try to get SOMETHING for a player that is under contract, decides to unretire an play for someone else instead of us.

sure, there are real details with his contract and cap number and all that, I just thought that the "classy thing" line was off base to me.

And I don't think that this kind of situation would reflect poorly on the franchise in terms of reputation among other players.

my 2 cents.

but you cant give up a high draft pick for a player thats 31 ...hasnt played in a year ...and is coming off of an injury plagued season ....id give up a 6th rd pick but no higher

Seattle lost all leverage over Lynch when they signed Lacy. No way they carry Marshawn's salary now. Still they might try to make things difficult/delayed until just before camp opens, unless Reggie surrenders a conditional 7th rounder (probably conditioned on Lynch's playtime and/or stats).

totally agree. Heck, I'd only expect a 7th rounder, to be honest. I just wouldn't expect a competing team just "give him away" if there's a chance they can leverage anything at all for him.

Changing subjects...

Has Reggie signed any D players or brought anyone at all in this week?!?! That's it! Reggie sucks! Screw that guy! (do I really need to put a smiley here?)

I'm sure most Raiders' fans agree that we wish McGloin nothing but success. Hard working young kid who I hope has a long career in the NFL. Might not be a star but the league needs solid QBs to back up the stud QBs and start a few games in a pinch.

In other news, Lynch to the Pats is swirling out there now. I guess him "coming home to Oakland" is only part of the story. Why doesn't Lynch to the "classy thing" and give the Raiders a home town discount ;)

Nice call out and agreed -- Moxie McGloin was easy to like given the chip he carried on his shoulder from being the constant underdog right from the draft, and hope he gets to continue proving himself. Can't really fault him for messing the bed being thrust in to the limelight in such a pressure-filled situation, but in the fickle world we live in, if you can't produce when your number is called, then you become more expendable. It is what it is.

no. It's the Raider FANS that are the criminals. I mean, fights only break out at Oakland games and never at any other sporting event.

Funny how many people still think the Raiders are full of criminals when that is just the opposite.
Do they? Thought that image has been much more associated with teams like the Bengals over the last decade or so. We haven't been thugs since the Stabler days.

Per @NFL rules, if retired RB Marshawn Lynch is traded, he does not have to file a letter un-retiring. It would be a clean return to play.

We're likely talking a conditional 7th rounder

Healthily skeptical about Lynch's impact, but happy to take him for the right price. And term length.

If he can spark some respect in our first and second down running game, that opens up so many possibilities (PA and other routes for WRs, TEs) that weren't necessarily there with Murray. I will always have respect for Lat, and loved what he did for us (still think he's underrated) but it's not like defenders stacked the box against him as the may against Lynch if he shows some of his old form.

i like the intensity he brings ...and he will be fired up for so many different reasons

Now that the Colts have signed Hankins I am left feeling disappointed. I was anticipating much more after S&B hinted a possibly big name signing or two. (No disrespect S&B, keep reporting your inside info.) Ultimately the team did not nothing in FA to improve the middle of their defense as I had hoped. They didn't sign any name players either.

My guess is they go hard at DT and LB in the draft. Let's hope they hit on an impact player.

Correction: Marshawn Lynch and the Raiders have agreed to terms. Trade with Seahawks still needs to be completed. @nflnetwork (stay tuned)

Heard it was short term and incentive laden. Anyone have actual details? How did they restructure his deal with Seattle, what are the trade terms worked out, and what is the term, overall value, guaranteed, and incentive portions of the contract?

Made my feelings on this clear -- happy to have an upgrade at the position and have a true power back, happy that Reggie seemed to work this out with the right terms (pending release of those terms), and happy we get a motivated player on our end.

But agree with those above and what I've said before -- we just put a LOT of pressure on ourselves to hit right on our D choices in the draft having not addressed this in FA. And we need a long term replacement for the kind of runners Lat and Lynch are, so hope we didn't limit oursleves by needing a lot in this draft to hit for us.

That said?

BEASTMODE!

IMHO, the best defense picks Reggie can make in this draft would be Samaje Perine in rd 3 and Marshawn Lynch in rd 7.

Addition of Lynch, if it happens, pretty much eliminates RB as  a draft pick.

I'm excited about the Lynch move, as the upside is big, and downside ( if he had nothing left) is the midgets splitting the load, which I am fine with.

Question:

Would you take Sidney Jones (top 3 CB with a blown Achilles) with the late 2nd rounder? Maybe a top 15 pick if healthy.

Disagree, and certainly hope that doesn't happen. Highly doubt Lynch's contract is going to be anything but short term, so we need to solve for a north/south, pwer/short yardage runner. I don't think Olawale is that guy, and given the way this team put together a Top 6 run game platooning the styles of Lat with Richard/Washington, Reggie has to know that looking to solve for that longer term only helps.

I hope we do look for a back later in the draft that will compliment Richard/Washington's styles, and bring a guy who can move the chains after 2017 when Lynch is likely done, but if we decide to focus on depth lottery tickets on D and ride Lynch (providing he actually signs) for a year, I guess I could be OK with that. Would just be a shame to miss out on a particularly deep RB draft this year.

Agreed, with the supposed depth of this RB class it is definitely worth taking a shot a RB mid to late this year

Isnt Olawale a FB?
Yep.

I wasn't counting him.

Taiwan doesn't really count as a tailback either, but with Holmes, Bates and what's his name gone, we'll keep him as a ST gunner, I wager.

Only way a rookie back makes team is if Taiwan loses his job. Possible, but I think team is fine with Richard, Deandre, and Marshawn as the backs.
