2017 Raiders - how's the 2018 draft looking? (4 Viewers)

Adam Schefter‏Verified account @AdamSchefter 2h2 hours ago

Raiders and Sebastian Janikowski resolved contractual differences, per sources. The longest tenured Raider in history remains in Oakland.

Mack knee injury. Ugh
Per Michael Gelken:

Raiders DE Khalil Mack missed practice today with a knee injury, according to team injury report. Was able to participate in stretch period.

It has to be encouraging that he was able to participate, even if it was just stretching. Hopefully just a slight sprain or a little soreness, and holding him out is just precautionary.

LOL. If Mack misses anytime the Raider defense could be epically bad. Bump all Raider offensive players because their only chance is to have big offensive production.

Don't forget to bump opposing TEs!

Raiders are doing the smart thing and keeping core players with dings limited/out of practice.

No question in my mind Mack and Cooper are on the field come Sunday ready and able to perform.

That said, this opener is scary, and can see us easily dropping this one to a dangerous Titans team.

Yeah, and I'd hate to see us dropping this one with KC looking slightly above average in week 1. :|

KC looked really good.  They have a solid QB and weapons on O paired with a very good D.  It is tough to know exactly how good they are after only one game but its not like KC being good is a surprise.  I have seen experts pick KC to go to the SB this season.

Over paid I think, but I grabbed Carr to ride this train all the way to the superbowl. I don't think he would have been there when I had my next pick because of one particular owner loving him, but I am happy with my choice. I think he ventures into top 5 QB territory this season

My prediction, however, would be that Oakland is a wild card team losing out to KC by tiebreakers both going 12-4

Exact same as last year?

I'm seeing 9-7 with 11-5 upside.  Tough division all of a sudden, and we'll contend for it.  The secondary is still too big a liability.  We can't stop TE's and our LB's don't look strong so questions about stopping the run.  Offense is strong but we aren't going to surprise anyone this time.  It will be up to our defensive coaching and I'm not putting money on that.

I don't see 12-4

Is our team better than last year on paper? I'm worried about out D. Our offense is going to keep us in games for sure but we had a lot of things break our way last year that we cannot count on again. No doubt we are in the conversation for anywhere from a wildcard playoff team to the #1 seed but we have a lower floor than a lot of people think it seems.

Yeah 12-4 would be a stretch. It's all about winning the division and at least splitting with the Chiefs.

The D is going to have to make huge strides for them to be serious contenders. Mack will be Mack, I would like to see a little more out of Irvin this season. And the young guys are going to have to step it up big time. Edwards, Ward, Vanderdoes, Hester,  Conley, Lee, Joseph and James, are essentially 1st and 2nd year guys. It almost seems like we're going to need a miracle, so much youth and inexperience on the defensive side ofthe ball.

I hate to say this because I like the person but Berry out for the year is a big addition by subtraction for us. Berry is a difference maker on that D.

Hate celebrating injury, even if it's a hated Chief, Bronco, or Charger. That's beggin the FF Karma Gods to smite you hard.

But agree that while the Chiefs still have some solid pieces on defense still, a lot of it ran through Berry in terms of his ability to cover multiple spots on the field and different players out of the backfield, and his energy and what he brings to the huddle.

Can't say I'll miss him, but a really sucky injury to sustain in Week 1 for an impressive pro player.

Should've cut him and given his $4mm to Penn.
Yeah. I'm confused by this one.

But im ready for life after Jano if this is truly the beginning of it. Wish we would go full on righty kicker as well so that it's easier to replace them with another kicker in terms of practicing the snap and hold, but that might have to wait til next year.

This will be a very tough test on the road to open up the season, but I do think the Raiders will be ready for it.  Joseph is the kind of player that will make Marriota pay if he tries to get too creative with his running ability in space.  Very excited to see Lynch get some real action, and what that will lead to for the other backs coming in fresh.

Was happy to see Patterson on the field a lot. He's a playmaker and just another problem for defenses to worry about.Cook looked surprising solid. And what about that new kicker!

Raiders with a great win on the road in their opener. Way too early but I do hope we continue our winning ways on the road from last year through this year, and playing the home team hard.

as others noted, solid defensive effort that I hope we can build on and get stronger. Our D played solid and did what they had to do in stopping the big significant plays, and shore up areas of need in coverage (I.e. obviously the TE).

Thought Downing called a good game, and great to see Lynch (removing any/all doubts about his 22 months off) Richard, Crabs, and Coop play solid, Carr remain for the most part mistake-free, and get contributions from guys like Roberts and Cook.

Will be watching the full game later on game pass, but for now, this seems to be what the Raiders gameplan needs to be: score first, score often to maintain the lead, and give our D a chance to contain and finish.

1-0, guys and gals - great way to kick off 2017.

Big win.  Going east and pulling it out again is a great sign.  I didn't renew Sunday Ticket so only got Red Zone coverage which was minimal, did the defense look as good as it looks like they looked?  I see we still can't keep a TE in check but if that's our only wart I'll be stoked.

They look pretty poor to start with but def improved throughout the game

Eddie Vander looks like the real deal and his interior rush made a big difference today. There was a play where he absolutely destroyed all pro Jack Conklin. Pancaked him then stepped over him to pressure the play. Dude is a beast.

Marshawn is a big addition.  So many plays Latavius would have been stopped, and he pounded forward.  God, he's fun to watch run.

Downing called a nice game.  My favorite play was the end around to Patterson, setting up a fake end around/screen to Marshawn later.

I like Mariota, but the difference in passing ability between he and Carr is noticeable.  Carr's passes always look like Brees' to me.  Catchable and accurate.

Best play of the game was Coop, slippery and fighting after the catch, and shoved over the goalline by the three millionaire angry hippos in the middle of our line.  I mean, that's your 2017 Raiders in one play.

Right now, I think Richard is the better player than Washington.  Looked real real fast and decisive after the handoff.

With the running game, and Crabs and Coop, is Jared Cook going to just be open and available every play?  Serious question.  Seems like a nice pickup.

Alexander cannot play RT against the AFC West edge guys.  Not sure why he rotated in, but seems like Newhouse will keep that job.

Coop had his drops, I know.  I don't care.  Michael Irvin and TO dropped balls their whole career.  So great after the catch, and WR screens to him are going to be common, I bet.

Vanderdoes looked like an NFL DT already.  Just seems really strong for a rookie, like he's got vet strength already, you know?

I wan to see more of Mario out there.

James is the three down guy, and Lee is the two down MLB, Adams in the nickel.  James looks better than last year.

Joseph is clearly a good player, Nelson doesn't look any older.

That Adoree Jackson kid is legit.
