2018 NCAA Tournament/Shtick Thread: TBS cameraman focused on crying kid who just happens to be up too late (2 Viewers)

Florida State is a 9 but are they really a Cinderella? More like an evil stepsister.
There have been two teams win the tournament in the last 30 years worse than a 3 seed.  UConn won as a 7th and Arizona as a 4th.  Villanova won as an 8 seed in the big upset of Georgetown.  So yeah a 9 seed winning would be incredible.  No one below an 8 seed has ever made the championship game.

We are not winning this stupid tournament but it sure has been fun to watch.

Remember last year when Florida State was actually good and got run off of the floor in the second round? The world does not make sense.

Your trash talk needs work.
I gave them hell during the orange bowl a few years back, but I’m just happy to see them here.
Also pretty hard to get up for trash talking with hoops.  I want to really care, but don't.

I remember how happy I was when UM won the National Championship in 1989.  Then I saw everyone who was never a fan rejoice and party, and I think that's the moment I became a sports snob.  They didn't deserve to be as happy as I was, I had more invested.

The 1993 Championship game was a killer for me, Michigan should have easily won that game.  Then came Kobe, Garnett, one and done, etc, and this became less important.

I still watch every game, because sports, but with very little buy in.  If UM and OU go far, cool.  If they don't, I'll root against the blue-bloods and for teams like Loyola.

K-State had three players foul out.  Their leading scorer and best player all season was hurt and only played 8 minutes, all in first half.
And they just beat Kentucky.

I think it semi-died for me last year. We paid like 500 total for awesome seats for 3 seed FSU-11 seed Xavier just to see a far superior talented team look completely lost and lose by 33 or whatever. I remember walking out of there and telling my wife I would never believe in a Hamilton-coached team again. And then they had an exceptionally mediocre regular season this year and it seemed like more of the same.

Sooooooo, I’m just enjoying this and hope to see it go further.

And they are pretty much the definition of an 8/9 seed.  Of the Big 12 teams in the tourney, I thought they were the worst.  OU couldn't beat anyone the last five weeks and they throttled K-State, so....

I'm not rooting for FSU, but this has been a good run.  All bonus for football schools IMO, Elite 8 is like winning a College Baseball title or a Women's Gymnastics title.  Good on resume, pretty much free money.

I agree.

Also saw a gator fan wearing a college baseball champions hat a few weeks ago. Probably the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. I didn’t even know they made them.

FSU's coach reminds me of Bunny Colvin on The Wire.
Way off-topic, but the real-life guy who Cutty was based on is Gervonta Davis' trainer (exciting, undefeated 130 lb. fighter who won a title, then lost it on the scales for a subsequent defense). This should probably be in the boxing thread or the Wire thread, but I thought that was pretty interesting. Unfortunately he's under Mayweather's arm now...

Man why do you guys hate your schools so much?  I was ready to throw my beer through the TV when that Oklahoma ##### hit another HR to take the lead against us in the college softball world series.

I was a little surprised K-State made the field.  They played zero Quadrant I games OOC.  Not just zero wins, zero games on the schedule.
They were 0-7 combined against KU, Tech, and WVU.  So it wasn't like they punched up and showed they had a high ceiling.
They didn't have any bad losses, but they only had two impressive road/neutral wins: at Texas, and beating TCU in the Big XII Tournament quarterfinals.

I can only care about so much. Bucs, Bolts, Rays, FSU football. That’s enough. I can’t fake enthusiasm for a college softball or baseball team. It’d be cool if they won but wouldn’t move the needle for me.

I'll root for OU (and Michigan in Hockey, Hoops, Foots) in any sport, women's or mens.  Just not as important as Football though, just isn't.  OU could win three straight baseball titles and that is equivalent to getting in the CFB playoff one year IMO.  One football title is worth like ten baseball titles, 40 women's softball titles.  Is it what is is.

Oklahoma State had every metric but the most important one: head-to-head.

Big 12 was deep this year though, Baylor and Iowa State were pretty decent also.  That's why I think WVU is gonna be tough to beat if Nova doesn't beat them tomorrow.

My uncle watches all that ####. DVRs it. FSU Baseball, softball, women’s hoops. LOVES the women’s hoops team. Always asks me if I’m watching and have to be like nah man I’m taking care of a ####ing 4 month old (I wouldn’t be watching anyways).

He’s also mid-70s and super rich so he can do whatever he wants.

Certainly, but maybe I'm just starting from a higher threshold or something because I still get pretty darn in to the softball/baseball CWS.  Maybe it's just because it's been long enough that I've forgotten what it's like for my team to be competitive in football, college (Gators) or pro (Fins).

Basketball is almost on par with football for me though.  I'm not sure why that is since it's the only of the big 3 sports that I didn't play.  I think it's just because I feel more invested in them watching so many more games (football is 1/3 the number of games or less and I don't watch start on baseball until the postseason), or maybe part of it is that so many of those games end up close it ramps up the excitement more over time.

ETA: Of course, I don't know what it's like for my team to be a part of the CFP :kicksrock:
