2020 MLB Spring Training (1 Viewer)

Dont think I've seen Marlins man at all in the WS. Nobody selling their seat or maybe it's not NY, Boston or LA so he doesn't care?

If the Nationals lose this I hope they don’t blame the umpires.

I will vote all day for Robo strike zone...
Nats certainly have bigger problems than the umps. Astros are definitely the better team, and haven’t been able to hit with RISP since they got to DC.

But Barksdale’s having enough of a rough night that even national MLB writers are piling on. There was also this earlier.

Was wondering this too. DC has big money and hasn’t had a WS game so I have to imagine those are an insane price. I would imagine Houston would have been easier.

I won't blame the umps.  There were 2 horrible calls but that certainly isn't the difference.  Cole is great, no Max, and our crappy bullpen are the real problems.

Somehow though if Strasburg can outduel Verlander, I like the Nats chances in Game 7 if Scherzer can go.

Nats are definitely not done.

They have great starting pitching which is the most important thing...

Cole has to the absolute favorite player of every interviewer out there.  Every simple question he gives this intricate explanation of everything going through his head.

I get there were a couple of bad calls but hard to argue the umps are at fault when you lose 7-1.  And honestly Eric Gregg laughs at thinking those are bad ball and strike calls.

So do the Astros though.

Again......the fact that 6 pitchers were responsible for 92% of their pitches thrown this year is showing now. That just is not sustainable in a series.

Astros bats reverted to the mean and here we are.

Now the fun is really starting. It should be an epic finish.

And as far as umpire balls and strikes....there have been questionable calls....and there will always be questionable calls. However it is very to second guess with replay slow mo etc etc. The fact of matter is it is a human being behind the catcher seeing it in real time.....95-97-98 MPH.......if any of you have ever payed or umpired at the high school level or above you know where I am coming from.

It is hard.

And the MLB umpires are the absolute finest in th world in any sport at calling games. Hope they never....ever make balls and strikes a review item. Ever. It would destroy baseball. It really would. Leave it alone. The game is amazing. Screw those that complain about 3-3,5 hours.....sometimes 4. That is the game. Always has been. Always will be.

The NFL is virtually unwatchable in todays state. And replay has a lot to do with it. It is out of hand.

MLB’s replay system and NBA as well as NHL do it right. It’s quick. The NFL are bumbling idiots.

Anyway.....Astros are proving they are the best team in baseball. 3 straight road wins......amazing. And the bats are back. This should be a awesome finish to the World Series.

Anyone blaming the umps when you get your butt whipped 7-1 is a sore loser. Jeez.

Total and utter blasphemy. You are taking one of the greatest human elements of the game away.

Seriously. Leave the damn game alone.

Scouting umpires is also a huge part of the game. Part of the chess match.

I'll never forget last night's game. I'm currently in Costa Rica and as it turns out Tico's don't really watch baseball. But they were nice enough to set me up with a TV hooked up to Mexican satellite in an open air game room off the porch of the plantation. The sounds of the critters in the jungle combined with the fervor of the Mexican announcers (every fly ball gets the gooooaal treatment) was somehow less annoying than the Fox broadcast team would have been.  Went by Rawlings today for the heck of it...not open to the public and not interested in talking to an American about juiced balls. Anyway...go 'stros. Here's hoping they can force a game 7...should be home by then.
Don't remember the year, but it was like back in 2005 or so when the Astros were in the NLCS against the Cards.  I was in Ecuador and we found a bar that somehow got the game.  None of the guys with me knew anything about baseball and I had to try to explain the game to them.  All of a sudden, that scene of Christopher Walken explaining baseball to his son in Blast From The Past for 20 years made all too much sense.  I mean simple things were so complicated.  "So he's out?"  "Yes."  "Of the game?"  "No.  Just out for now."  "But he can come back in a little bit?"

Well, I wasn't expecting this, but in retrospect, it does make sense.  With the Nats playing as well as they had for so long, they were peaking.  And just like slumps, peaks usually turn quickly.  A good example is the Colorado Rockies in 2007.  Unbelievable streak to make the playoffs, then blow through the NL postseason, only to then slump and get swept in the WS.

Nats went from being amazing to falling off the peak's cliff.  And the worst part for them is that they fell off that cliff just as the Astros slump decided to wake its bats from their autumn slumber.

2 games left.  Both in Houston.  People are focusing too much on pitchers right now.  Pitchers aren't going to be what wins this series now for either team.  If the Astros slump is over, I think this series ends tomorrow night.  If the Nats slump is a short lived slump, they can push this to a Game 7.

IF this WS goes to a Game 7, I still think advantage Astros because of better rested, more healthy pitching.  And the crowd.  If I'm a Nats fan, I wouldn't focus too much on Scherzer.  He said his wife had to dress him yesterday.  To me, that says even if he says he's healthy enough to pitch in Game 7, there's no way he's 100%.  And this isn't a bloody sock.  This is nerve pain.  I mean, if he could somehow pull it off, it would be up there with Kirk Gibson.  But I think he might actually be a detriment to the team if he tries to pitch through the pain.

Again, I'm not making predictions.  I like to just point out what I see.  I think JV at home, with a chance to clinch in a non elimination game for the 'Stros, and an 0-5 WS record might be the motivation he needs to get it done in magical fashion.  One for the ages, type moment.  But as I've said before, JV is a great pitcher but has a tendency to give up a long ball or two even when he's pitching great.  For JV to get a win, I believe he can't let those home runs come before the Astros score.  I think even a HR that ties the game could spoil a JV win.

Side notes:

1) Check swing calls seem to have gotten worse as the postseason has gone on.
2) I'm not the guy who thinks Joe Buck hates me team like everyone else, but I do feel like he's pulling for the Nats in this series. Any pitch by the Nats that is outside the box but close he calls a good pitch.  If it's a strike, he says something like "Perfect location."  If it's a ball, he says something like, "Looked pretty good but apparently just outside." There's a box on the screen, Joe.  You don't need to say apparently.  But he takes the opposite reaction to Astros pitches.  Again, I actually like Joe Buck and I'm not hating on him.  Just saying there seems to be some bias, which is fine, really.  I find it hard to believe that all of these announcers are not rooting for anyone.  And again, that's ok.
3) I feel like when it comes to a championship game, the announcers should really know the two teams playing.  Springer made an diving attempt on a foul ball and missed and Smoltz said, "Well, if Springer can't get to it, no one on this field can."  Jake Marisnick is literally brought in to centerfield because he's the best defensive player on the team.  If he wasn't so streaky at the plate, he'd be an everyday player.  The whole reason Springer was playing RF was because they bring in Jake From Rake Farm to play CF because he can cover more ground than Springer.  Just little things like that bother me.  Not a lot.  But I expect more from the national announcers of a championship game/series.

My Yankees will gladly sing those checks for him......😲
I have been listening to NY sports talk a lot and I know you want him badly. If the Yankees get him they probably will win the WS. I think he might go to the Angels and he’ll fade into irrelevance with Trout.

Doctor Detroit posted in the Nats thread that he went to an NLCS game in DC, but no one behind home plate would trade seats with him.  Maybe he got butthurt after flying to DC and unable to get on TV.
