2021 College football thread - Auburn’s gotta Auburn. (2 Viewers)

I think the backup Pitt QB is pretty good and their WR are finally healthy…they’re going to light up MSU IMO.

plus some teams aren't releasing Covid news until right before game. Miss State announced 10 players out AN HOUR before game last night
Guy on the radio made a great point about betting player props over sides. Key players that end up out are no bets while you end up getting stuck betting on his team.

Have you met any of the Big 10 guys around here?  They care about their conference.  They care a lot.
This one doesn’t. (Bleep) Ohio State, Michigan, and Iowa. Most everyone else is okay.
I'll give a $1 to the charity of choice for every "Big 10 guy around here" talking about the conference in any meaningful way or with half the passion/seriousness the SEC guys do

Oh come on.  I'm not going to spend any time with this, but were you here last year when the B10 guys were breathlessly explaining how much better their conference was than the SEC?  They may have had a point last year, but it was conference honking at the highest level.

He will start the inferior qb against Bama and lose again. He’s an idiot with these decisions.
I kind of agree but I’m not sure it’s obvious Daniels is the right move.  Especially against UM.  Maybe he’ll get lucky and get enough of a lead where he can give Daniels some time so he’s not making his first appearance in a long time against Bama.  I still think they can win the whole thing with Bennett but only if their D shows up better than the SECCG.

I definitely think Daniels is the more talented guy and if the season has played out the way they wanted he is probably starting both games but now they are in a spot to make the best of what they have.

I'm really curious how many of the players who've opted out would opt out in a larger playoff. I'm more of a purist about not wanting the playoff to make the regular season meaningless, but seeing the bowl game opt outs now makes most of these games meh.

I'm happy for Kyle Hamilton as an ND fan and he might go top 5 or top 10 in the NFL, but I'm curious if the playoff were 6 or 8 teams or if ND had snuck in if he'd have still sat out. Bigger hits seem to be on teams like Pitt where Pickett opted out. If they'd have auto-bid to the playoff as a champion, is he still foregoing for the NFL?

Feels like this might help playoff expansion more than we realize if the bowl games start to fight back against the diminishing marquee of their games in favor of adding teams to hopefully entice more of these top level talents into playoff considerations.

Then they should front the insurance policies and payouts that come with it.  If I'm on some throwaway auto-bid lame duck team playing a meaningless playoff game I'd sit it out.  In what world does Pitt win 3 games against 3 top 10 opponents?  As far as I can tell they haven't won 3 games against top 10 teams in this century.

Not disagreeing with Hamilton/Pickett/etc. decision. If any of them were my kid, I'd advise them to do the same. I'm opening up the question more for what would it take to have the marquee be retained? More of an intellectual curiosity. I don't know if Hamilton would return on this year's ND team had we been ranked #4 seeing Alabama coming and knowing ND had little to no chance Hamilton or not. But does he turn down a possibility of a title?

First round talent will sit out a 3 game playoff, 100%.  It will be easier for the auto-bids to justify it to themselves, but over time it will spread to the elites.  There's no pushing this genie back in the bottle now.  The "Wh0 DoEsN'T L1k3 MoARe FutB0L" contingent was wrong here.

Charlie Kolar must have opted out for Iowa State, judging by his receptions and receiving yards.   <_<

Whatever happened to the good old days when a kid’s parents took out a Lloyds of London insurance policy?

Does the winning coach of the Duke’s Mayo Bowl get a vat of mayo dumped on him at the end of the game?

Yes.  4.5 gallons, thinned out a bit with water.  Supposed to happen during trophy presentation.

The announcers ate oreos dipped in Duke's mayo a few minutes ago.  I mean, c'mon.

Well, no, it would be a waste of time.  My money is safe.  I'm in these threads every single year and my donation of $1 per FBG stands in last year's thread too.

Someone please explain this to me.  There was no context given when they showed it during the game.
They were getting their asses kicked. The cheerleaders were doing their thing even though it was 44-18, the Duck said #### that I’d rather play with toys.

ouch

@ESPNRittenberg: Hawai'i defensive back Michael Graham is in the transfer portal. He's the son of Hawai'i coach Todd Graham and the brother of offensive coordinator Bo Graham.

My alma mater (Wisconsin) played in the Duke's Mayo Bowl one year ago today and I don't think I watched a minute of it.  They are playing tonight against Arizona St. in the SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl and I have to say I don't think I could possibly care any less. I'm all over the Big Ten regular season and will always go to a couple games in Madison or an away game here or there, but just can't be bothered with these meaningless bowl games anymore.

Just curious, would your opinion change if they were playing in a traditional NY’s game?

I used to love Bowl games - especially under the old Bowl tie-in system before playoffs and before BCS.  Now, with bowl games starting mid December and running through mid January, its just so watered down I really don't care. There is no meaning anymore to the concept of the Rose, Cotton, Sugar and Orange - the four crown jewels of New Year's Day.  Keith Jackson is dead and Brent Mussberger is long gone when it comes to Jan 1. I'm a dusty old fart, and the magic of these games is completely gone for me.

Nice road game for Purdue in a bowl game. Purdue down several players. I don’t plan on watching past the 2nd quarter….we’ll see.

As another old fart, I can’t disagree with this.

I like the bowl games even though they're totally meaningless.  That said, I 100% agree with any player skipping a non-playoff bowl for draft reasons.

That’s just nasty.

I’m not a fan of 6-6 teams going to bowl games, and had very low expectations of South Carolina actually showing up.  But, way to go Cocks!  I’ll take it.
That’s a nice momentum builder going into next year though. The extra practices are huge. Everyone at OU loves Beamer, I’m glad Rattler and Stogner ended up there and hope Beamer has a lot of success. I think he’s going to be a good one.
