2022-2023 NBA Salary Cap Draft - First Annual Battle for the Wikkid Cup (1 Viewer)

Ok we’ve got 15 drafters so far:
Yo MeMe
@scoobus
@Juxtatarot
@Instinctive
@Frostillicus
@Jayrod
@dunfee555
@Kev4029
@Desert_Power
@Eephus
@the moops
@trader jake
@nysfl2
@Chemical X
@Dr. Octopus

We have 2 options:
1) Try to get one more drafter tonight, set the draft order, and me get the spreadsheet to good buddy Moops before he goes out of town tomorrow afternoon. Then we start the draft with no clock until next week.

2) Take a chill pill, see if we get more drafters over the weekend (I’m fine going more than 16), and start drafting with a clock Wednesday next week.

Ok I know who I want I will take first pick thank you.

This format is probably even more top loaded than a regular draft. We should consider third round reversal.
Didn't we do a 3RR for the all-time too?

I can live with it.
Good with this too.

I will suggest, with this and the NBA being so top-heavy, an auction format could be a better way to run it than a snake draft at all.

Realize that is a big ask on all involved particularly the commish though. Friendly thought during our chill period.

We ran a blind auction for one of the NBA WIS drafts. The top 72 players were divided into groups and auctioned with daily bids over the course of a week. The rules were way too complicated especially for a WIS league. There were bid priorities and dice of course.

I remember going through the bids with TRE and trying to figure out who got who.

We did another one of these too. I sucked at both of them.

Drauction was awesome. Not sure if it would work for this.

Interesting thing might be if we bid on our draft pick spots for the first 5 rounds or so.

Maybe we could restack the draft order every two rounds based on funds remaining (least money picks first). I think this might help to balance out the impact of stars still on their rookie contracts who will be overvalued otherwise in this format.

I’m good with doing a 3RR. Auction seems too much to figure out - a salary cap within a salar cap.

I actually thought adding the salary aspect would spread around the values a bit by adding good bargain players to the top performers. Some of the normal top guys may be less likely to go as early because of their high salary (we don’t have exceptions to go over the cap here).

I think that will give even more of an advantage to the teams that get good value early.

Copied from @jomar from the original drauction WIS thread:

"What would happen if we just bid for draft spots?

We all get $100 and submit 5 bids. I might bid 61, 21, 13, 4, and 1. Everyone does the same we rank the bids highest to lowest. high bid drafts 1st, second highest 2nd and so on. My 61 bid might have been sixth highest overall, so I draft 6th. My 21 might be the 30th highest so I don't pick again until 30. Ties have a roll off.

It's an auction and a draft. It's a drauction.

To really make things clustery, repeat the process every 5 rounds."

I’d like to still get one more drafter, but I guess we can make it work with 15 teams.

We can throw around some ideas for drafting tomorrow/Monday.

Ok folks, here’s what I’m thinking on the draft format. Please vote on your preferred option.

1) NEUTRAL GOOD - Standard serpentine draft with a third round reversal.

2) CHAOTIC EVIL - Modified Mega Drauction
- Everyone has 1,500 Drauction Dollars to bid on draft position for all 15 rounds. They’re like Schrute Bucks, but with no monetary value.
- Each drafter will allocate their Drauction Dollars across the 15 rounds as they see fit. You can value each round differently - you can give more points to the third round than the second round, for example. This is where I modified the original Drauction proposal - instead of the possibility of someone having 4 third round picks and no first or second round picks, everyone will still get one pick each round.
- I will line up everyone’s bids for each round to determine the draft order.
- Ties will be broken via roll-off. I nominate @Eephus to be our official Master of Dice.

15 teams, 15 rounds, 15 million salary cap, 15 hundred Drauction Dollars.

Vote as if our democracy depends on it.

Based on early precincts, it looks like the neutral goods have it.

What's the status of the salary spreadsheet?

I have it ready. I was hoping to have the draft order ready to go before I rolled it out. Moops was going to copy my excel file into a google spreadsheet, but he’s out of town until tomorrow afternoon.

I think it’s safe to assume we’ll only have 15 drafters and that we’re going 3RR, so I’ll get my file updated and we can get the draft order set later today.

I need 2 volunteers to help me with the draft order later.
