Frickin' Griz. Blech. Good game by Memphis. This is going to be a fun back and forth series for the coming years. Zion had a down to earth game (~20 pts but too many turnovers battling into double and triple teams).
Reminding myself though that we've done this without Brandon Ingram for the last month. I think we'll be alright.

I think we chose the right Cavs game to take our boys to.
I watched the first half and we were getting smoked. Two starters not playing…No chance in the second half I thought. Just got done watching the highlights - WOW!

Mitchell is special! Glad you and your boys were there to witness it!

How old are your boys?

7, 10, and 12. Instead of doing gifts this year my BIL's family and us decided to gift a Cavs game to each other's family. We found 9 seats together in 2 rows with their 2 and 4 year old's. I got a hunch we're going to be asked by them to do this again.

Crazy ending to Hawks-Warriors game last night. Klay goes for 50. Dubs blow a 21 point lead then come back from down 9 late. End of first OT, Murray makes the classic Divac mistake of batting the rebound towards half court while up 3, with a foul to give and 3 defenders mysteriously defending the paint, to an opportunistic Divincenzo who ties it with 0.6. Looney saves the day with two offensive boards in the last 1.5 including the tip in at the buzzer.

Prior to the start of the season, I fully expected the Indiana Pacers to be in the running for worst team in the NBA. They are currently 21-17 and have won 6 of their last 7. Good young team that is just really fun to watch and root for. There was talk early in the season that Myles Turner and Buddy Hield would definitely be traded prior to the deadline, but now I'm kind of hoping they keep them. Both are playing great and this team has tremendous chemistry right now with Haliburton running the show. Only downside to all of this is it looks like we're playing ourselves right out of the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes LOL.

First NBA game of the year for me last night and it wasn't very competitive. Portland had their way with Detroit from the 2nd quarter on. I've gone to games since the late 90s and I'm sure this is recency bias but this might be the most fun team I've seen assembled in Portland. The Jail Blazers had their moments but I can't recall any past Blazer with the athleticism of Jerami Grant. We had decent seats, so I caught a glimpse of that dude's calves and holy hell is he packing heat inside his socks.

For the last 10 years, we went to the games to catch the Dame Show and he's still a blast to watch, but it almost feels like he's a cog in a team and not THE team, which is what it felt like since Aldridge left. Simons is such a gifted shooter, seeing his maturation has been cool and the hustle of Josh Hart is infectious. Shaedon Sharpe is another guy I look forward to following. I thought it was a throw-away pick at the time, boy was I wrong. Kid just flies when he takes off.

They will remember last night for a long time!

That's awesome! I'm way more of an 'experience' guy than a 'gift' guy so coincidentally I took 3 of my sons to the Blazers' game as part of their Xmas gift from me. Didn't have a 71 point bonanza, but a good time was had by all.

Giannis scores a career high 55 points and becomes the fourth player ever to go 40-10-5 three games in a row, and nary a peep in here. The disrespect is real...

But at least we pointed out the Celtics getting trounced by an OKC team playing without SGA, so I'll forgive it.

:lmao:

95% of this board would have him as being the best player in the world.
OK, "disrespect" was probably the wrong word. Fatigue, maybe? I don't know what else to attribute it to. LeBron does this and it's the top story EVERYWHERE.

Lebron is 50 years old.

Lebron entered the league when Giannis was 9.

Bigger story, by 16 points!
Hell of a game by Mitchell, but in fairness, it took him 49 minutes to score his 71 points (1.44 ppm), and Giannis got his 55 in just 36 (1.52).

Give Giannis another 14 minutes, and I'm reasonably confident he gets to 71, too.

I think it is more a commentary on just how dead this board is becoming

You are the resident Bucks fan, YOU bring it up (which you did here).

Had I not watched the game I may have scrolled past this and thought nothing of it, but I did and that guy was superman Monday night. In a game without Darius Garland and Evan Mobley in which the rest of the Cavs objectively sucked and the team trailed 65-47 at half he had a hand in 68 of the final 98 points scored - including scoring the final 18. To have fun with arbitrary end points he only had 8 points with under 2 minutes to go in the first half when the Cavs fell behind by 21. Realizing that no one else had it going for them that night he flipped the switch and took that game over, winning it effectively by himself - he scored 63 points (and 9 of his 11 assists) over the final 31 minutes. It was a historic performance.

Thanks for the color. Even with scouring the box score, I imagine it's hard to appreciate how great it was without having watched it.

It is his shtick and it is exhausting. Everytime someone talks fondly about another player he always chimes in with, but Giannis. Like if other people are good at basketball then Giannis can't be.
daisy you seem grumpy what can the old swcer do to cheer you up my number one recommendation is model railroading you can build your own little universe with a train in it and wear a little conductor cap and have a whistle and in your train world everything can be hunky dory and maybe you imagine that gruced is a huge detroit fan and you two are best buds and talk about whoever is on detroit this year that my friend is the power of model railroading take that to the bank brochacho

During a timeout after LeVert bricked another 3 we laughed cause JB walked out to the spot with the ball and waived Mitchell out there. He made eye contact with him, simulated shooting, and yelled 'you take it!' We laughed it off at the time, but looking back it was the sign of more to come.

2 years ago he was chanting disrespect during the the Bucks title run when almost everyone on this board was all rooting for the Bucks, unless it was a few random fans of the Hawks, Nets or Suns.

Soon after that we were talking about what player we would pick to start a team and it was pretty slanted towards Giannis or Luka, but more disrespect.

I even made a comment about LeBron being the most physically gifted athlete ever in the NBA and his reply was "Giannis would like a word with you".

It bothers me that we can't enjoy other players doing extraordinary things, without this fake disrespect card being played.

I apologize for mucking up the thread. It just gets old, lazy and boring, especially living in Michigan and near Detroit, where our stupid fans think the various sports leagues are actually out to get the local teams and half of them proudly wear stupid t shirts that say Detroit vs Everybody.

Rant over, I will go back to lurking.

Robin Lopez
@rolopez42

I'm going to get it out of the way and point out that Donovan Mitchell and Robin Lopez combined for 72 tonight. Hashtag Historic Game.

Please don't. You're the best poster in this thread now that our GB Wiki has departed for the box seats.

Undoubtedly so he could rack up some more points during OT
