I think the Houston rumors make sense if he doesn't want to stay in Philly (and if Houston doesn't draft Scoot). The Rockets owe OKC their 2024 1st round pick and have a ton of cap space, so making a push this summer would be logical. Harden won't be around when the young guys hit their prime, but right now they desperately need someone who can just organize the floor and set up decent looks.Harden led league in assists and still can drop 40+ on occasion. He will get another big contract.
I'll be surprised if he doesn't. But who? Bad teams aren't going to sign him hoping he is the answer. Good teams don't need him. And the middle of the road teams ... he doesn't fit many. Maybe a team like Atlanta or New Orleans? It'll be interesting.
The dodging Jokic thing is the worst take of all time. Did Jokic then dodge all the other teams when he rested like half of the final 10 games of the season? And don't even pretend he was "injured"That quote has been taken way out of context. If you listen to him answer that question in full, he isn't at all throwing the team under the bus.Embiid is getting destroyed here in Philly today. People feel betrayed because so many went to the wall defending this guy only for him to come up so small. Then on top of it his comments about he and James can't do it alone. **** that, man. You just scored 15 points in a game 7 for your ****ing legacy and you're blaming Harris, Maxey, Tucker et al for failing you?! I'm done with this guy.I was going to comment about the crazy climate change in media coverage in about 48 hours. BOS was going to have to can Mazzulla, Tatum will forever come up small, and Brown was getting shipped out of town. Two days later, it's Doc is done, Harden's gone, and Joel may not want to stick around. I get it . . . that's the difference between winning and losing.
Also curious why Embiid isn't getting called out more. He wasn't particularly great the past couple of games. Sure, he hasn't been 100% against BOS, but he was the MVP. He's now 5-6 in playoff series and hasn't made it out of the 2nd round. Harden has been getting called out as not being a great playoff leader and has folded multiple times. But Joel hasn't exactly been stellar in the post season.
From what I saw, Embiid was often content to linger on the perimeter on the weak side of the court in the last two games against Boston while his teammates possessed the ball on the opposite side of the court. He didn't come to the ball, he didn't post up much, and there were times when he had Smrt covering him. Not only that, when shots went up, he just stood there and watched and let everyone else battle for a rebound. I don't get how he was not fully engaged. If he is the alpha on the team, he would have made himself be available and front and center. But for some reason he didn't. So, sure, he's right that he can't win on his own and that he didn't touch the ball in the last 4 minutes of Game 6. But he made very little attempt to get the ball or get under the basket where no one could do much with him.
That said, I am kind of loving all the people ****ting on Embiid after the way he pushed for the MVP in the media then dodged Jokic in Denver.
Really excited about lottery tomorrow. Wemby is going to make one fan base very happy.

It’s a right of passage in NY and Philly. For about 3 days after getting exited fans and sportswriters will just bash anyone who didn’t have a great final game. As a Blazer fan this could well end up being very true!Really excited about lottery tomorrow. Wemby is going to make one fan base very happy.
Or he’ll be perpetually injured and the source of fan frustration.

Deservedly so. That said, what about Daryl Morey? He's quick to pump up his own players and challenge others when he disagrees, but his track record is right there with Doc, Harden, and Embiid.Doc, Embiid, and Harden all deserve the hate coming their way for their series performance here.
Scoot would be a # 1 pick most years. So while not as exciting as getting the tall french guy, whoever picks second should also be happyReally excited about lottery tomorrow. Wemby is going to make one fan base very happy.

A lot of those super tall guys are like Great Danes. They don't last a long time. Muresan, Ming, Bradley, etc. The only one that lasted awhile that I can think of is Mark Eaton. The Athletic has an article this morning showing Wemby's height/weight in comparison to current and former players. His closest size comparison is Ralph Sampson, who was great for about three years until back and knee issues tanked his career.

The MVP voting was an absolute landslide. If it was close then I could see ppl saying someone else should have won but it was 73-15.
Yea the snippet changes the whole meaning of his answer. The media in all form is just terrible any more.Basically Embiid was asked about his partnership with Harden and he reiterated that he believed they could win together but that it isn’t just about the two of them.Do you have text of the original quote? Here’s the question:
“What’s the next step for you and James as a tandem going forward and how much are you going to be in his ear this summer to have him come back here?”
And here’s Embiid’s complete answer:
“We got an unfinished job. We haven’t won anything and I think we’ve got the chance to win. Obviously going to seven games and having the chance to close it out at home, which we didn’t do, I still believe we’ve got the chance to win. We’ve got what it takes to win. I don’t know what’s going on [with Harden’s upcoming free agency] and I know he has a player option so they can extend him but that’s on those guys to figure it out. I’m going to stay out of it. I still believe that me and him, we’ve got the chance to win but it’s going to take more than us. We all got to look at ourselves. I’ve got to be better and I will be better. That’s what I’ll focus on. All of us, we gotta come back and find ways to just keep improving and help the team. You can’t win alone. I can’t win alone. Me and James, we just can’t win alone. That’s why basketball is played five-on-five so we just need everybody to keep finding ways to get better and we’ll be fine.”

Embiid probably deserved the mvp but there is no doubt who the best player in the league is. And that’s fine. Embiid is still a superstar.
What do you call bring up 3-2 and then scoring 13 points in the 4th quarter of a close out game and then follow up by scoring 10 points in the 3rd quarter of an elimination game. They choked. That said, I believe "choking" is when the team that is SUPPOSED to win, loses. Boston was favoured in all 7 games this series and absolutely was the favourite and the team that was "supposed" to win.
I don’t love Jokic, but that dude should win a title. Would be cool to see.I am rooting hard for Denver to win it all. This would be 3 years in a row that a team drafted well, added a few good veterans through trades or free agency has won a title.
It gives the Pistons, Pacers, Magic, Blazers, Kings etc. fans hope that we can compete and win soon.
Also each team did it with one elite player and some other all star caliber players.
It’s usually reserved for Chris Paul, but now we can just call it The Harden. What do you call bring up 3-2 and then scoring 13 points in the 4th quarter of a close out game and then follow up by scoring 10 points in the 3rd quarter of an elimination game. Doc's results at this point speak for themself. He is kind of the Marty Schottenheimer of the NBA. I'd go Jeff Fisher, but the truth is Doc's teams usually do better in the regualr season and underachieve in the playoffs.Doc Rivers keeps getting head coaching jobs.
It's not all on him, but a lot of this outcome is.
Hockey is different from Baseball is different from Basketball when it comes to a 7 game series to a point. If a player goes into a slump, gets hurt, etc it makes a huge difference for a game or 2, but should not effect the outcome of the whole series. Same thing when a player gets hot (or a goalie is locked in) it can change the series but teams should adjust.This. Good perspective, here. There's an old saying in football that goes something like "The other team has guys on scholarship too". Boston a damn good team. Plus, you have the Eagles to fall back on relatively soon! Living in a town with one pro sports team, it's awfully bleak when the Blazers are bad and it ain't all glitz and glamor when they're decent either.
Are the Timbers that irrelevant? They always seemed to have a big local following, but that was looking from afar.Living in a town with one pro sports team, it's awfully bleak when the Blazers are bad and it ain't all glitz and glamor when they're decent either.
Uh, Timbers are still around right?Living in a town with one pro sports team

I find it disappointing that he couldn't make his points without bringing race into things (both black and white). I guess that's not unexpected though.
Nice list. Only quibbles are that I would move chicago up, definitely past Houston and detroit at a minimum and that New Orleans does not deserve a third generational talent in a decade. The definitive ranking of potential Wembanyama destinations. tl;dr I'll probably be mildly disappointed by tomorrow's results.
1. Oklahoma City (1.7% chance) - Wembanyama would be absolutely perfect for the 5-out style that OKC wants to play, immediately making them one of the most fun young teams in the league.
2. Portland (10.5% chance) - Wemby is exactly the kind of two-way rim protector that this roster needs. He and Lillard would be a blast, but this would still be fun if they trade Dame and move forward with a core of Wembanyana, Simons, and Shaedon.
3. Indiana (6.8% chance) - It would be great to see Indiana add a second star to play with Tyrese Haliburton, who I adore.
4. New Orleans (0.5% chance) - Since day 1, New Orleans has needed a stretch 5 to maximize Zion, so Victor would be perfect (just unlikely). Would be #2 on this list if not for Zion's health concerns.
5. Utah (4.5% chance) - Defensively, a frontcourt of Wembanyama and Walker Kessler would be filthy. The Jazz have plenty of future assets and would now have a young centerpiece to build around.
6. Orlando (9.0% chance) - The Magic have had their fair share of lotto luck recently so I'd prefer to see another team win it all. That being said, they would be absolutely loaded after adding Wembanyama to their young core.
7. Toronto (1.0% chance) - The Raptors are at a bit of a crossroads with this roster, and landing Wembanyama would give them a clearer direction. Victor's frontcourt shooting alleviates some of the issues created by Scottie Barnes's offense.
8. Charlotte (12.5% chance) - I think going to a team with a good PG would help maximize Victor's early years -- a Lamelo/Wembanyama pairing would be very fun.
9. San Antonio (14.0% chance) - Wemby would be a great retirement gift for Pop, and given the Spurs' track record of drafting/development, I'm relatively confident in their ability to build around him.
10. Detroit (14.0% chance) - Compared to the Spurs, Detroit has a more interesting young core but less trustworthy management IMO.
11. Houston (14.0% chance) - Victor would immediately boost this team's comical defense. Houston has been such a dumpster fire that I'd rather see some other teams win, though.
12. Chicago (1.8% chance) - As currently constructed, this team would be an OK short-term fit for Victor and a bad long-term one. If they blew it up and turned Derozan/Lavine into players/picks, this could be interesting. Would be cool to see some excitement around Bulls basketball again.
13. Washington (6.7% chance) - Just like Chicago but worse, the Wiz are relatively old, mediocre, and boring. It's unclear how they'd put a contending roster around Wembanyama in 5-7 years. Swapping Beal for future assets is nearly impossible with his contract, and ownership has zero appetite for tanking anyway.
14. Getting hit by a bus (<0.1% chance)
15. Dallas (3.0% chance) - Alright, maybe I still have a bit of animus towards Kyrie.
Maybe if the Pelicans won the lottery, they’d still want to exercise their swap rights with the Lakers?Nice list. I'm old enough to remember when Heat fans, including myself, wanted the Heat to lose the play-in game vs CHI for the 0.5% chance to get Wembanyama.
Are the Timbers that irrelevant? They always seemed to have a big local following, but that was looking from afar.Living in a town with one pro sports team, it's awfully bleak when the Blazers are bad and it ain't all glitz and glamor when they're decent either.
