Officiating absolutely horrid tonight
The officials make mistakes, it's a hard game to officiate.

>>NBA says that Vincent foul on Tatum 3 with less than a minute left was a bad call. League said Tatum "Overtly and unnaturally extended his right leg" and no foul should have been called. Tatum hit all 3 FTs and Gabe then hit jumper on the other end.<<

That 4th personal on Jokic was complete horsesh*t

Laughable. His leg touched Davis. FOUL. So gross

I am very happy about the Nuggets win, but I guarantee you the narrative is going to be LeBron is hurt, which I think he is.
There will be a lot of chatter about how Lebron looks old, which is a legitimate talking point, but I think the narrative is going to be holy **** the Nuggest are really, really good.

(and the Wolves beat them once this posteason)

The Lakers defense just isn't good enough to make the Nuggets uncomfortable. Give AD credit, but he's only one man. Plus he's needed (and effective) largely guarding Aaron Gordon and clogging the lane...which also means he's not limiting Jokic directly enough.

Also, not surprising to anybody that has really been following the NBA, D'Angelo Russell just isn't a 16 game (playoff) player. Love Vanderbilt's hustle but he'd getting played off the court by Denver.

Let the Kyrie Irving to Los Angeles watch begin. 🤔

I wouldn’t bury the Celtics just yet. They can win four of five against the Heat. I don’t think they will but they can.

I think if the Celts win game 3, this is going to 7 games. It seems a bit dramatic to call this 3rd game a big game for Miami after they just won 2 on the road but I think it is for them.

If I’m a Celtics fan (and I’m decidedly not, I hate them), there’s two things that worry me - Spolestra
Reads like an ED medication.

do not take spolestra if you are allergic to spolestra take that to the bank brohans

Pace seems pretty fast tonight...

Nuggets needs to keep it that way imo

Fast pace is not good for James. This is the first time I noticed Father Time catching James as he was taking a lot of plays off and standing around.

James can still put up the numbers and bull rush the hoop now and then but when the pace is intense he seems to gas faster, his shots are off. I get it he is 38 but not used to seeing him look older and tired out there.

On a scale of 1 to 19, where would you rank a Miami/Denver finals?

Going by the names, and the franchises it would rank way down there. As great as Jokic is he isn't the name LeBron, Curry, Durant and others are. It isn't fair, but it is the way it is.

We would have to see the finals first before ranking it too be fair. They could play a phenomenal 7 game series and then everyone would look past the other stuff.
I'm a lapsed NBA fan. Butler vs Jokic is exactly the thing reeling me back in ... and Wemby

This.

That 4th foul on Jokic last night might have been the worst call I have seen in years. It's no wonder some think the NBA is still corrupt when it comes to officials trying to influence the outcome of games to extend series. Denver was able to overcome it and win the game, thankfully.

The Extender couldn’t even get the Lakers a win!

While his legacy is all but set in stone anyway, James losing in this round rather than the next is probably better for it, since the last thing he needs is another final loss. Such is the brilliance of some in the GOAT convo who act like losing earlier in the playoffs is better.
Jordan fans who act like he only played 6 seasons in the NBA are my favorite.

it wasn't good, but i don't think it was that bad of a call. jokic did slide a bit underneath AD. I've seen worse certainly not called, but they did hit legs and AD didn't have a spot to land.

thankfully it didn't matter

If you have difficulty reaching the conference finals, ask your doctor about Spolestra.

Season on the line for Boston tonight. They have a lot to fix.
  1. Brown has to play better because he was AWFUL in game 2. I saw him cost them twice in 1st qtr missing rebounds, was a step slow in his man to man defense multiple times and just ineffective on offense. I put game 2 blame on him over everyone else.
  2. TimeLord got bullied IN the paint. He has to step to drives quicker and decrease the space before they get to the rim. Guys got too deep on him and scored right in his face 5-6 times in game 2. If he can't protect the rim, his lack of shooting is too much of a spacing detriment on offense making him a net negative.
  3. 4th quarter offense can't be awful. The Heat doubling Tatum shouldn't be a shock and their lack of a plan after the double is on Mazzula. This is where he is getting outcoached. Getting Tatum in a spot where he can punish the double team is on the coaches. Brad Stevens could help, but not sure on how their dynamic works internally.
I have been disgusted at times by their effort, coordination, structure and form. Coaching and player effort between these 2 teams is night and day and the Heat are using that to overcome what is a decent sized talent gap. Man vs man, the Celtics are better 1 - 8, but they are just being neutralized too often.

There has been some whispers that Brown is playing with an injury. To illustrate how awful he's been, he has an offensive rating of 83 and a defensive rating of 127. He's a brother from another mother to Al Horford, who clocks in at 88 and 118. On the surface it looks like Timelord has been a liability, but the numbers show otherwise. His offensive rating so far is 158 with a defensive rating of 121. His performance twin has been Derrick White, who is at 160 and 122, Tatum is even at 121 in both categories.

If anyone takes stock in game score numbers, Tatum is at 23.3, Rob at 13.8, Brogdon at 10.4, with Smart at 10.1. Compare that to Butler (26.8), Bam (19.5), and Martin (17.3). The Celtics aren't winning anything if Rob Williams is their #2 player and Martin laps Brown (7.2) and Horford (4.8).

Overall, TimeLord was great in game 1, but in game 2 they made a concerted effort to drive into him and then attempt their shots off his body once they were in close and it worked...a lot.

He was less effective in game 2 defensively and will need to correct that if Boston has a chance. I honestly think him coming a step forward to meet drives would make a huge difference.

What do you all think about Coach Joe's personnel moves?

They seem glaringly bad to me
The biggest thing they are doing wrong IMO is playing Jimmy Buckets straight up. They need to take a page from the Heat, who are aggressively doubling Tatum the entire fourth quarter. The other issue is the last game they didn’t rebound at all (-16 boards).

It’s not Joe’s fault the Jays and Al have been terrible in the 4th . . . Which leads to Smart shooting a lot. Not really sure what the proper chess move is when three guys aren’t scoring and Smart tries to become the scorer. The best thing Joe can do is tell his guys not to suck.

I think part of the problem is a lack of fast/hard cutting by Tatum and Brown. They walk into position and just post up using their size, wasting time and putting no pressure on the defense.

I'm not saying they need to be the Warriors, but more movement to initiate the offense would be one way to help in the 4th quarter. Put defenders into action that generates matchups you want in places you want. There is like an infinite number of ways to do this, but the coaches just need to get creative.

I kind of lump this under the Energy umbrella.

The Celtics are still playing with the energy level of a regular season game while their less talented opponents are playing with playoff level energy which is making these series so much harder for Boston than it should be on paper.

I don't know if you can fix an energy level issue this late into the playoffs but tonight has to be the night if they can figure it out.

As a related aside, many moons ago, Moses Malone once said "I could take 4 guys from the playgrounds and beat these guys". What Jimmy Butler is doing is the closest I have ever seen to this statement coming true.
