2022 Las Vegas Raiders (3 Viewers)

Pretty interesting press conference by Ziegler today. I kinda like the guy. Yes, he and McDaniels are tied at the hip so if McDaniels gets fired Ziegler would probably as well, just like the Gruden/Mayock situation.
Anyway, he eluded to Carr battling with some injuries and I got the overall feeling that a lot of guys just aren’t practicing.
I think what we’re seeing on Sundays is a culmination of a few things that are all intertwined:
Too many injuries exposing a lack of depth.
Guys just not healthy enough to practice and just showing up on Sunday and hoping or expecting to execute and win games.
If Carr is injured, and it was well documented that Adams was sick last week, no Waller and Renfrow just not being the same since he got his Bell rung, then it’s no surprise this team is on the struggle bus.
The defense is a different story. It’s just an overall lack of depth and a roster full of JAGs and a poor free agent decision signing Jones.
The tough part, is there’s no easy quick fix for the D. If they don’t have the players to compete (especially on the Dline) then they are going to be a liability.
The frustration lies in expectations. At the beginning of the year the fans were lied to. Davis publicly stated this was not a rebuild year. Clearly that is not the case. There are no easy answers, but one thing is for sure, it’s November 2nd and the season is over.
When you trade for Adams and sign an old vet for top dollar money in Jones- you aren't doing a rebuild. You aren't lying if you believe what you are saying. They just got it wrong.
Good point. Still I find it hard to believe they truly thought they were one WR away from a Super Bowl or at least a playoff win.
I just don’t see someone with years of NFL experience (McDaniels) looking at that defense and saying, “we’re just one over the hill pass rusher away “. But what do I know, just my opinion.
I give up on understanding football.
I thought we would be competitive and fighting for a playoff spot. I thought the Dolts would be a right up there as a top team in the mix with the Bills and Chefs. I thought the Donkeys would be good too though the least of the group of a tough division. It turns out the only thing I got right was the Bills and Chefs being good. What the hell to do I know? Nothing.

It was worth a shot to hope that the team could add a couple of pieces and compete enough to sneak into the playoffs. The D is as bad as we thought. The o line is bad but Jacobs covers that up. It should be painfully obvious now that there are lots of players needed and the unloading of players must begin for draft picks. The unloading should have already started. It’s time to tank.
The trade deadline has passed. Anyone on the team now is there till the offseason unless they are released. Tanking is a thing for fans to talk about, but not too many teams actively do this until they are mathematically eliminated. I'm hoping the team fights hard the rest of the way, but tough to expect too much after this start.

I think there is a general misconception about tanking. Coaches don't tank, players don't tank. Their careers are too short and volatile to risk it. f

Front offices tank. They do everything they can to make winning more difficult for the coaches and players.

The Panthers are playing their ###es off but there is no question the FO would rather they not win anymore, even if they will never come out and say it.

Indianapolis is tanking for sure. Probably Denver, maybe Chicago too.

But the Raiders are not tanking. Then again they maybe they don't have to tank to suck their way into a top 3 pick.

Players on teams aren't going to say "you know, I hope they get higher draft picks to come take my job and then my poor play on tape makes it harder to get another job or paid well"

Coaches same... they are judged by wins and losses. Every loss is a step closer to being fired and lesser of a chance at being rehired or at least at the level they are at etc.

Ownership may pressure staff on something like that (see the Dolphins accusations) but I don't think teams really do that. How many crappy teams beat good teams late in season? Happens all the time.

I know the trade deadline has passed. LV missed an opportunity to trade away some older players to start accumulating draft picks to rebuild. It’s a missed opportunity for a team that excels at missing opportunities. Hopefully some forward thinking occurs in the offseason and LV makes rebuilding moves then.

I also know that players and coaches don’t tank for the good of the team. They don’t have any reason and are not built that way. But, the Raiders front office needs to use the remainder of this season to look ahead and not worry about wins. Try inserting younger players to get them experience and see what they can do. The season is over but it doesn’t have to be wasted.

For fantasy purposes, many of us are depending on Carlson. The last game was hopefully an aberration. Also, for the home stretch, if the Raiders are out of the playoff chase, some of us in bigger leagues are keeping Zamir White on our benches.

White is the type of player that should receive a fair amount of playing time. It’s time to see what he looks like in the NFL. I have a feeling I know what the plans are for Jacobs but it may be helpful to make that decision if White can be a NFL RB.

Chandler Jones, 3 years, $51 mil ($32 guaranteed) potential out 2024 $7.2 mil dead cap. 15 tackles, 1 TFL, 6 QB hits, 0.5 sacks

Za'Darius Smith, 3 years, $42 mil ($11.5 guaranteed) potential out 2023 $3.3 mil dead cap. 22 tackles, 13 TFL (leads NFL), 12 QB hits, 8.5 sacks (leads NFL).

If the Raiders lose this weekend and Carr's back remains an issue, at that point, it would makes sense to shut him down for as long as needed and bring in Stidham to do his job as backup. My son looked up the highlights of the 2016 Raiders a couple nights ago. Carr looked like a completely different QB then. He was mobile. That part of him was wounded mortally when he broke his leg that year, and was finished off when he broke his back the following season. Dude will never move like 2016 again, it seems. :(

please don’t overlook the important fact that Smith likely doesn’t fit our defensive system well. Our system doesn’t allow for players who lead the league in TFL Or Sacks. No place for that kind of stuff on this Raiders D!

LOL Za'Darius just came up organically in my mind and I ended up down a small rabbit hole.

I saw a piece about Smith today and it got me thinking. The knock against Yannick being he was too small at 6'2, 246 and Jones is 6'5, 265. Smith is 6'4, 272.

Yannick 16 tacklse, 4 TFL, 9 QB hits, 4 sacks at 2 years, $26 mil ($21 guaranteed). FA in 2023.

Dude... I am already depressed
Then we probably shouldn't talk about Ray Guy.

RIP
Sucks.
Watching his I think "football life" on NFL Network right now. Rightfully they replaced that with the replay game that had scheduled.
RIP one of the all time greats

Actually, it is the Road to Canton special.... one sequence had Willie Brown and then John Madden right after talking about Ray Guy. Brought a tear to my eye.

Darren Waller (hamstring) was limited in Thursday's practice.

He was a limited participant in practice throughout Week 8 as well before being ruled out, so while we'd like to call this a step forward, it's probably something that's a little more subjective. We'd like to see a full practice before being certain that Waller will play. He will likely at least be questionable on the final Week 9 injury report ahead of Vegas' game with the Jaguars.

So many things go thru my mind , is he milking it because he was paid and the teams sucks ?
If he`s hurt why even play him if the team is basically out of a playoff run?
Do you play him anyways because he was paid so much money? Go earn it dude .

get him a set of pompoms and make sure he attends every game whether he plays or not.

Not sure how true this is since Rapoport just makes stuff up sometimes and is wrong more than he is right.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Packers "made a strong run at Raiders star tight end Darren Waller."

The Raiders ultimately decided Waller was too valuable to deal and nixed the trade talks. In a follow-up Tweet, Rapoport added that the Packers also looked into acquiring D.J. Moore from the Panthers. Previous reports noted Green Bay matched Chicago's offer of a second-round pick for Chase Claypool. Per usual, the Packers' efforts to get Aaron Rodgers extra pass-catching help came up short. Expect them to explore other options in the offseason, though there's no guarantee Rodgers is with the team beyond this year.

Should have made the trade. The Raiders have to start looking ahead to next season and the seasons after.

No reason to not think it was talked about. The missing part here is what was being offered for him. I am not ready to trade him for peanuts even with the year being so far a disaster.

Given the no mention of the capital offered, my guess is it was a 5th rounder or worse. GB was looking to buy low, without a doubt.

Maybe the Raiders should have sold anyway, but if they had, it would have signaled that the FO is giving up in this season. I would not have done so for a lowball bid either, I don't think.

I just focus on the ya sin portion of the trade.

Did Carr just check down on fourth and 17????

He played badly in the second half.

This season was pretty much over already, but this seals it.

Just tank the rest of the year at this point. See what your young players have to contribute. Embarassing loss to a below average team, which makes us a VERY below average team.

It’s about time someone joins my thinking. We will have more folks join the rebuild team as the weeks roll on.

I haven’t watched much college football this year other than PAC-12. So is it “suck for Stroud” ? Or someone else?

When do you think the powers that be realize that Carr is not the answer and it's time to move on? It's been fairly obvious to me years ago but then he'll flash some brilliance and folks start believing again.

This team has way bigger issues than Derek Carr. But I do think it’s time for a change at the QB position. I think it would be in the best interest for Carr to move on, just as much as the Raiders. He deserves to play for a winning organization at some point in his career before he retires.
And on the flip side. The Raiders have tried to build a team around Carr for the past nine years. And they just haven’t been able to do it. Whether it’s, through the draft, spending lots of money on the Oline (Del Rio era) or signing free agents. Nothing has worked with any consistency at all.
I’m a DC fan, I have his jersey, I’ve always had the guy’s back, but I believe the Raiders need more at QB. Call it athleticism, electricity, juice, game changing ability, play maker, whatever. Carr just can’t survive behind that rag-tag Oline, they need someone with escapability who can make plays when the line breaks down.
I’m always gonna root for the kid, but his days in Silver & Black should be numbered, which could end up being a good thing for both Carr and Vegas.
