2022 Las Vegas Raiders (5 Viewers)

~Get Maxx a playmate, preferably a big body in the middle of the line that offenses need to account for
~Get two o-linemen
A certain Ndamakong is still idle.
They're not winning anything this year. They're a spoiler or one-and-done. It's time to accept reality and turn our attention to next season. I would love to see them in position to grab the best DT or RT in next year's draft and keep drafting along those lines throughout.

This is potentially a good team in decent position to make a run over the next 2-3 years (maybe longer if they do it right...maybe). But not this year.

They don't have a Mahomes or Herbert or Allen to sustain that kind of success. Their best offensive talents are either on the second acts of their career (Carr, Davante and maybe Waller if he still has anything left) or at a position with a very short effective lifespan (Jacobs). I love Renfrow but he's not carrying a team. Right now is another reminder of how much they miss Ruggs.

Defense has maybe two lynchpins in Maxx and, hopefully Hobbs. But is there anyone else who isn't really just a role player? Maybe Deablo.

No, if they're going to capitalize on the limited strengths this team has right now they need to be shrewd and smart AF this off-season and stop wasting time with, and overpaying, 30+ year old has been pass rushers who you go after when you're legitimately ready to make a run. Not when you're still a marginal playoff contender if everything works perfectly.

Next two weeks Raiders have 1PM EST games @ Saints then @ Jags
Any chance they just stay somewhere in the Southeast for the week in between?
Kind of recall some chatter like that a few years back.

Good news is that Jacksonville will be coming back from their London game this coming week, so maybe some additional jet lag/ distraction issues there.

Back to Suh...

- Contract would be guaranteed only week to week, if negotiated proper (w/bigger salary, but $0 guarantees).

- Raiders ~$10 MM in idle 2022 cap. Spend ~7 MM for year-end Suh to reinforce Crosby & Co.

- OL and offense gaining momentum. Jacobs an absolute beast. Running game to Defense = dog to man.

- Need impact defenders for stretch run (Maxx, Hobbs, Perryman, Suh) - SORELY need interior DL pass rush

- IF Suh hits, and then leaves next off-season at his regular rental rate, he'd net the Raiders a Rd 4ish comp pick.

- Raiders 2022 run is NOT done. 11 games left and they sit 1.5 games behind the final AFC playoff spot.

- ROS schedule - next five all winnable; final six much tougher. Said all along McD would try to gear this team to play its best football in Dec/Jan. OL development a testament to that. Some huge holes they are providing JJ lately. One at a time, always... But only three games where I struggle to imagine a Raiders win bolded below, and last two of those are at home. Run commence.

Four of the next five on the road - all winnable. Must win three. Good shape if they can take four. One at a time. #OAT

Posted the following in the Jacobs thread last week. JJ is now officially, statistically a top-5 fantasy RB, season to date. ROS awaits.

Josh has always been a solid RB when healthy, but this year he's leveled up his quick twitch, noticeably, without sacrificing his vision or power. Dude is easily playing like a top 5 NFL and fantasy RB right now. Stay healthy and hungry and reach greater, good man. 2022 be yours.

ETA: fantasy #2 RB overall PPG

Wild-card rival and opponent in three Sundays, Indianapolis just lost Matt Ryan for the year. How good is backup Sam Ehlinger (2021 6th rounder)?

FYI - Raiders with upcoming head-to-head matchups vs. three of four teams competing with them for the 7th playoff spot - and only only 1.5 games out of the 6th spot as well. Destiny still in hands and real season now begins. Everything until now was the dress rehearsal. OL and running game humming at a good time. Josh Jacobs for President.

So happy we won... no TV access plus a lot of kids sports stuff so I was watching the scoreboard updates. I couldn't take us losing to the Texans right now.

One very important thing to do... EXTEND JACOBS YESTERDAY!

And Staley has been a disaster as a coach. His one and only season as a DC was good with the Rams - that's a tiny sample size with a loaded roster. And his defenses in LAC have been bottom-5 with a lot of talent there.

He has completed a single season with a defensive roster of mostly inherited players. That 2021 defensive performance was very disappointing, but it is pretty early to judge the 2022 defense, especially with Bosa's injury. If 2022 ends like 2021, then I'll agree with your post here, but it sure looked like the 2022 defense was much better than the 2021 defense in weeks 1 and 2. Jury is out IMO.

Of course, if you just want to bash Staley and the Chargers without regard to 2022 performance since you are a Raiders fan, I get that.

"Inherited" players? Well, he had "inherited" players with the Rams too. That's a silly point.

The question is - does he have talented players? He absolutely does and at all levels of that defense.

They were 29th in points against in 2021, 30th in 2022. Lynn's last season they ranked 23rd, but he averaged 12th over his tenure.

We have one single year of strong defense with Hall of Famers. We have two years of bad defense with mediocre very good players. Maybe Staley turns it around, but currently they're giving up exactly how many points / game as they did last year (exactly - 27.0)

Man, i sure hope the Raiders dont throw in the towel like some of their fans are ,yikes .
IMO this team has finally found its identity on offense , power running and let Carr pick his spots with the weapons he has at his disposal .
Now we just need the Defense to find its identity and we are off to the races .

This team is warming up to the new regime and the new playbook,it has the talent to make a run, gain some much needed confidence and Raider swagger and i wouldnt count them out this year ,no way , no how .

It's your thread, and I am not a Staley apologist. Bash him if you want, i was just pointing out that saying his "defenses" (plural) with LAC have been bottom 5 is premature since he is less than halfway through season 2 there (and Bosa has missed more than half of the games).

Here, you point out that he had more talent with the Rams than with the Chargers... I agree, and that supports my point, not yours.

Again, carry on without regard to the context if you prefer. I wouldn't be surprised if I agree with you by the end of this season, but I'm trying to reserve judgment for now.

Nobody worth salt cares. Take it to the Staley thread that doesn't exist. Is he a Raider? No. You fail.

Funny, Sith Lord is now doing with his QBs what his prodigy did with the Raiders OL the first quarter of the season.

Wonder if the trade of Hankins is opening the door for incoming DT help.
I get the sense its more based on Neil Farrel playing more.
Farrel played in two games. KC and Houston. 29 and 15% snaps respectively.
Hankins had played in five games LAC, AZ, TEN, Den and Houston. 47, 37, 48, 30 and then 18% snaps respectively.

Seems to check out that the snaps that Farrel has got have been eating at Hankins snaps.

I don't like trading DT depth when run D has quietly become decent/good this season. But McD mentioned Farrell having played better in recent weeks, so perhaps this was necessary to unleash the younger player with higher upside. Feels a bit risky, but Billings has actually been the primary (and very effective) 0-tech DT this year, so we are talking about shifting the backups at that position.

Also, this opens up a roster spot on the 53. They had been carrying 11 DL all season, which is a bit rich IMO - especially since they haven't been heavily rotating them. Hopefully, that last point becomes moot and they sign Suh to take Hankins' spot. :)

Plus, I think Hankins has 1 year left on the contract and he is getting long in the tooth too. So, get more snaps for a guy who was earning them with him on the roster anyways, potentially make room on the roster (Suh would be awesome) and get some value back. Not mad about it.

@VinnyBonsignore

FYI on
@Raiders
trade of Johnathan Hankins: The continued progress of rookie DT's Neil Farrel and Matthew Butler played a role in the decision to trade Hankins.
More Farrel than Butler as Butler has barely played any snaps and Farrel is more of the same type of player that Hankins is but yea, I think this is right. I wouldn't mind getting Suh on board. Him getting some pass rush up the middle could be the difference maker for the D. Play him on passing downs and see improvement on how the D plays as a whole.... assuming he isn't too old like Jones.

More Jacobs porn... PFF RB grades through week 7...

1. Josh Jacobs 91.3
2. Nick Chubb 91.1
3. Tony Pollard 86.5
4. Christian McCaffrey 84.1
5. Rhamondre Stevenson 83.8
If you have seen any Cowboy games in the last year or so you can see Pollard is clearly the better RB in Dallas.

Love seeing Jacobs getting some of his due. The trick here is to use him but not over use him.

We have a stretch of very winnable games. Looking for a good run (pun intended) for us to get back the mix of things.

Some random thoughts after watching a replay of the game:
Looks like the Oline is taking shape with Bars and Parham playing guard the whole game and Munford playing RT from the 2nd quarter on. The way they are running the ball right now, I think they finally found the right combination linemen and it looks like they’re starting to gel, with Jacobs being the beneficiary of that.
The defense is just bad, especially up front. The Texans Oline was getting the best of them at the LOS most of the game, the Dline was getting blocked up and pushed back most of the game. Thanks to Perryman and Martinez flying around making tackles or else this game would’ve had a different outcome.
And again, there’s not enough pressure on the QB, Mills throwing for 300 yards is not a good sign of things to come. Bottom line, the Raiders D will keep teams in the game as we’ve seen the first part of the season. Until they get stronger up front and get some other threat of a pass rush other than Crosby, opponents going forward will be able to score and move the ball almost at will.

But not funny and I don't get to punch Ned Ryerson in the face.

I saw the sack of Cle and Jones. Cle was in the DT position there and is the one that made that play coming up the middle. I really think having him inside on passing downs is a smart move. I been asking for it for the last couple of years and haven't seen it much.

graham is a future head coach somewhere. hoping he sticks around for a couple seasons before moving on. there's just so much lacking on the defensive side of the ball, that side is overachieving even if they look bad anyway.

Not surprised today. It’s their annual East Coast (I know New Orleans is not technically on the EC) but 10am est game blowout.
The Texans game last week was actually a lot closer than the score indicated. Houston shot themselves numerous times in the feet. The Raiders just don’t have the talent on defense to contain players like Kamara and Hill.
At least we know before Halloween this is not a playoff team, go enjoy your Sundays everyone.

So, Waller was a late scratch...any possibility he's able to play but there is a trade brewing?

This won't be popular but IMO the Raiders should be sellers and not buyers at the trade deadline.

Just got done watching the Seahawks beat the Giants and it makes me realize what makes a solid organization. Consistency. People here in the PNW do not miss Russell Wilson. It’s Pete Carroll who’s proving to deserve all the credit. I relate this to the Raiders because their organization is the polar opposite. Inconsistency from the top down. Wasted draft picks, over-hyped, ignorant blame for a QB who works hard and displays leadership and hard work surrounded by constant changes and chaos. Continual upheaval in the front office. Why do we fall for this charlatan every year? It’s not even November and it’s it’s time to think about next season.
