Funny how so many Cowboys fans personal to me were all sending me the same clip of Daboll saying "starters are playing" but silent the next day when he obviously walked that s*** back. I lean towards the bolded as well, mainly because as you said he never missed a down in the Chicago game. He continued to complete deep passes and IIRC even ran in another TD. Did we ever see him get treatment on the sidelines or go into the tent? We had no idea there was an issue until the day after the game. Maybe I'm just using my rose colored glasses but it doesn't feel right.

From what I've heard from people in the know Hurts knew he was injured didn't tell anyone till after the game as he didn't want to come out and I don't think he knew how bad he was either.. Props to him for wanting to continue but also dumb on his part considering its the type of injury you can worsen if its not taken care of right away. If he's does come back this weekend healthy he's fortunate to not have done more damage continuing to play with it. I also think he may have done more damage on a hit late in the game too it as well.

This is kind of where I'm at. I think its a dangerous game they are playing but I do think that there is something to it. It's why I have been banging the drum about playing Hurts for the last two weeks. In the Chicago game there was almost no indication that he was hurting, he continued to play and frankly he played at a higher level. This feels very analytics to me and it may work out in the end but I continue to believe that Hurts could have played in Dallas and we'd have won that game. Coaches and front office being cute IMO. Hope it doesn't backfire with a loss to NYG.

I also think that (at least against Dallas) Gannon ran a pretty vanilla defense with the thinking that they could lose the game in Dallas AND we will probably face them in the playoffs. Didn't want to tip his hand on what they want to throw at Dak.

My cousin and I saw him wince at least twice. I don't know if that play where he was driven down was the initial injury but he took an unnecessary shot late in the game that could've aggravated it further too. We aren't drs here nor do we know how bad the injury was initial. He could've been playing off sheer adrenaline and as an athlete you don't notice stuff sometimes till that wears off. I think they were fortunate it came in the 2nd half of the game as if this happened prior to halftime I don't think Hurts is playing the 2nd half in CHI. Remember when Wentz tore his ACL he played one more snap and threw a TD on the money. After that he was done for the game. Granted different injuries but adrenaline rushes play a huge factor here.

It's like what some of my military friends say about being in a fire fight. A lot of times guys don't realize they are shot till the adrenaline wears off. That could've been it too. At this rate it's a lot of speculation about a lot of unqualified DRs here and elsewhere.

If Hurts was healthy enough to play and not at risk, he would have. The only games they've been playing is to the media when they say he might play even though they damn well knew he wouldn't. This isn't 3D chess, they've been playing checkers but you're all reading way too much into it.

Morbid hypothetical, but imagine if the Sweat injury had also been severe, like a Ryan Shazier situation, and then the Hamlin incident occurring the next day?

Decades of concussions affecting players and the NFL still has difficulty getting the safety protocols right, and it’s had minimal impact to the brand/sport. But a paralyzed player and resuscitated player in the same weekend might have been a massive inflection point leading to significant changes to the sport.

McNabb did break his ankle, but it was also VERY obvious when you see the way he moved pre injury and post injury in that specific game. I'm not saying Jalen "did not" get hurt. I'm saying they are for sure 100% overblowing it. To what degree, who knows, but I"m saying to a "pretty pretty pretty big" degree he would have played in all 3 games had we been neck and neck w Dallas. Maybe not "3D chess" per se, but there is definitely some strategy to what they are doing, in my humble opinion. And to any Eagles fan, if they watched that McNabb game and this Jalen Bears game from this season, I don't think anyone of us would suggest he moved any differently in the game in question where he got injured, compared to McNabb barely able to sidestep a few yards at a time.

I've seen playing in the NFL compared to a car crash. In many car accidents, you feel much worse the next day and days after. I'm sure NFL players have a good amount of adrenaline on game day.

I don't think they're playing games. I think they (rightly) see themselves as Super Bowl contenders, and would rather risk going on the road with their quarterback than playing him when he's more likely to aggravate the injury and be lost for the playoffs. I'm sure he *could* have played, but the risk of not having him in January and February meant it was better to sit him in December.

No one can convince me that if we were tied with Dallas for the division that Jalen wouldn't have played in Dallas and against New Orleans.

oh I've been on the boat the whole time. I was complaining when they didn't play Hurts in Dallas and was livid when he didn't even dress against NO. I believe their treatment of this whole situation has been malpractice. The best team in the league, all year long, HAS to start all their players in the last week of the year in a must-win game against a divisional opponent. It is ludicrous.
 
yeah the minshew mania schtick was getting out of hand. Lots of people on the radio saying that he could be a starter for a lot of other teams. no, clearly, he cannot.

Playing on a broken fibula and playing with an injury near the collarbone are completely different

He wouldn't have played either way. According to 2 people I talked to zero chance he'd make the Dal game even if it was Sunday. There was threat of injuring it more too. He was never playing. Team downplayed it to keep Dal on their toes and keep people from going ballistic about another Starting QB getting injured late in a good Eagles season. He also wasn't starting against the Saints after LP on Thursday and FRI. ZERO CHANCE THEY RISK IT. Eagles are playing it safe with Hurts and just acting like it's less severe. It's a chess game teams do to play down injuries to certain guys.

This is why I think it's possible it was adrenaline rush and after the fact they realized and he did he was hurt. Like I said I fully believe had he gotten injured in the 1st half I doubt he'd have come back in the 2nd half of that game. He was playing off of Adrenaline same as when McNabb broke his fibula and when Wentz played another snap on a Torn up knee.

He would've won against Dal is Watkins actually put some effort in there and Miles Sanders didn't fumble. He played well in DAL. Not so much against the Saints but the DAL game was winnable and we didn't lose because of Minshew.

We don't know that he wouldn't of. Minshew had only 2 TO's should've been a 3rd but 2 weren't his fault. Miles also fumbled late in the game in a situation I talked about before why Gainwell was getting 2 min and late game carries because of Miles tendency to turn the ball over.

i really think Jalen plays and the hope is the Eagles build a lead to pull him sometime in the 2nd half. and i think NYG can roll out the starters to start the game, with the intention of playing it like a pre-season game (few drives) and then back-ups, or maybe the first half. I don't think they would play the whole game, just seems silly

Some commentator floated that as a suggestion. There's nothing from the NFL considering that as a possible alternative - that would be a disaster. There's a better chance they do the ping pong ball approach.
Teams that were eliminated and have been elevating backups and such for facetime this week getting one day notice that they are still in it? No chance.

NFL already said this isn't an option. NFLPA would have to agree as well, so it's not happening.
 
Just listened to Nicks presser. He was trying to be cagey about Jalen’s status and not saying but let’s just say, I wish he was in my poker game.

Jalen is starting. I’m 100% sure if it now.

Yeah, agreed. He's starting. And here's how I think it goes:
  • We win
  • Jalen (and starters) are still playing in the 4th because it's not a 30-point blowout (but get to come out at some point)
  • We wind up with another injury to a key player at some point

Same results if the Eagles tie, which also still gets us the #1 seed, btw.
 
It won't happen, and it looks like he's not even considered a contender, but Brandon Graham should be Comeback Player of The Year. Coming off an Achilles injury, age 34, getting his first double digit sack season. Its a good story. He's such a great great all timer time of Eagle, just a dude you can't help but respect for his on and off field character. Add 20 sacks to his career and he's probably on the edge of the Hall of Fame. Happy for the year and recovery he's had and obvious his role as a pass rusher specialist he is flourishing in, still.

I'm more than happy I was dead wrong on this one. BG is slowly creeping his way onto Mt Rushmore Eagle status. Some more playoff heroics and a 2nd Super Bowl and maybe he gets there.

I think he’s already there, if we’re talking players universally beloved by the fan base as the embodiment of a “true Eagle” during his era (regardless of how long they played here or what their stats were.)

From the ‘00-‘20 era, I think BG is on there along with Dawkins, Kelce, and Foles (who I think benefited from the Wentz downfall to cement his immortal status; if Carson had continued on his expected trajectory there would have been a lot of hesitancy to embrace Foles unconditionally because it would make many fans feel disloyal to Wentz.)

For the ‘80-‘99 era, it would be: Reggie White, Jerome Brown, Mike Quick, Keith Byars

‘60-‘79: Chuck Bednarick, Harold Carmichael, Bill Bergey, Vince Papale

Pre-‘60: Steve Van Buren, Pete Retzlaf, Tom Brookshier, Tommy McDonald

Anyway, back to BG, I don’t know if he can crack an All-Time top-4 Mount Rushmore but he’s definitely an “all-time great” among the top 25 or so. 4th in team history for sacks, 4th in games played, Eagles draft pick, played every game in the NFL with the Eagles, SB clinching strip-sack, and an Eagles Walter Payton Man of the Year. I think those credentials put him ahead of other “all-time greats” like Joyner, Simmons, Trotter, etc.

I think he’s already there, if we’re talking players universally beloved by the fan base as the embodiment of a “true Eagle” during his era (regardless of how long they played here or what their stats were.)

From the ‘00-‘20 era, I think BG is on there along with Dawkins, Kelce, and Foles (who I think benefited from the Wentz downfall to cement his immortal status; if Carson had continued on his expected trajectory there would have been a lot of hesitancy to embrace Foles unconditionally because it would make many fans feel disloyal to Wentz.)

For the ‘80-‘99 era, it would be: Reggie White, Jerome Brown, Mike Quick, Keith Byars

‘60-‘79: Chuck Bednarick, Harold Carmichael, Bill Bergey, Vince Papale

Pre-‘60: Steve Van Buren, Pete Retzlaf, Tom Brookshier, Tommy McDonald

Great lists. I’d put Randall ahead of Byars but the rest is spot on
