76ers vs Spurs tonight. I wonder if Wemby remembers the 70-point game Embiid turned in last time they played.
I don’t think Embiid is playing after having a big night yesterday.
he didn't have to play for most of the second half though. I think he will play.

edit: my bad, just looked at the injury report and he's out. not sure what to think about that. at this point, I think they will only get out of the play-in if they win out. Obviously the Spurs are not good, but I would not take anything for granted without Embiid. Lowry also out.

Future DPOY and MVP candidate Amen Thompson with the dirtiest no Draymond play I've seen in a couple years, instant ejection.

Houston bullying Dallas. Chippy AF.

I think the plan was always to only play one of these back to back games.

Season is over for them but what a choke job by Jabari. Those free throws didnt have a chance 🤦‍♂️

Still don't understand not fouling and giving them an opportunity to tie.

That wasn't THAT bad. Deserved the ejection but otherwise, meh.

Here is the "play".
Probably some arena emotion, but it looks pretty bad even in slow motion. Not a lot of off-ball full windup elbows to the head and neck area that would be "not that bad" lol.

Holy crap that was absolutely incredible. ELECTRIC atmosphere I cannot wait for playoff games. Watching Brooks just get roasted over and over again brings me back to enjoying him as the grizzlies weakest link.

Underrated part of that ending, what on Earth is Jabari doing on defense following his FTs?

I thought it was more of a push than an MMA elbow. I would be surprised if he gets anything more than a light fine after the ejection.

He's still young (20) but at that moment he looked like a deer in headlines. He's made some strides this year and I think he'll be a solid NBA player but he's definitely no Banchero or Chet :kicksrock:

Yeah I wouldn’t expect a fine at all. And they also clearly took into account the fact that he threw one on the other end the play before that refs didn’t see. In stadium replay showed it and then the ref center replay showed it at the other end also.

Probably so, but in the specific circumstance that played, it feels like it would have been worth calling an audible. Winning out does not guarantee them a top 6 seed, but makes it probable and I think that possibility of avoiding the play in and The Celtics and bucks in the first round and getting a week off is worth it. I don’t know what the risk is to embiid’s knee, so maybe it’s really not worth it. Hopefully they can still pull it out anyway.

Hell of a game by Maxey. Spurs gave them everything they could handle and Maxey and the B team prevailed.

The seeding in the East is going to be crazy this week. Bucks could fall to 5th if they're not careful. Magic could get 2 seed and have to play Philly as their reward. What a crazy year.

The Magic as a 3 seed right now is kind of surreal. They are like a legit 2 years ahead of what I thought.
Need some shooting and a bit more of growth from both young guys but yea, they are way ahead of schedule. I think Mosley should win Coach of Year
As of the end of last week, Mosley was the third favorite (+1200), behind Daigneault (-300) and Finch +300. The Thunder have 13 more wins than last year, and the Wolves have 12. The Magic also have 12 more wins. The team that gained the most wins so far is Houston (+16), but Udoka is a distant fifth (+20000) after Mazzulaa (+5000) in terms of odds.

Maxey is so damn fast and twitchy. This team could have done some real damage this season. Embiid is back and has made a difference when playing, but I think that he probably doesn't have enough time to re-assimilate and likely is not able to play the same minutes as prior to the injury for the Sixers to make a playoff run.

A couple factors that might help them. Embiid is usually running on fumes by this time of year and injured. That's not a problem now. The pressure of getting passed the 2nd round weighs on them immensely when they were a 1-3 seed. Now no one is expecting anything.

Could be a huge boost mentally for Joel. That plus he has shooters at every position now helps.

As much as they need another shooter, they REALLY need Paolo and Wagner to shoot better too. Wagner is shooting 28.3% from three this year on 325 attempts. He's on pace to have the worst high volume 3PT% season in the history of the NBA.

Could they be a landing spot for Donovan Mitchell this offseason if he makes it clear to Cleveland that he's going resigning? Or what about Anfernee Simons? Both would be great offensive fits with what they have otherwise.

well, he's coming off injury and running on fumes as he tries to ramp up his conditioning so it's like a normal season in an alternate reality

It's actually kind of crazy how this award tends to go. Like i think Mazzula should probably be the actual winner this year. As if coaching players who get way better is somehow harder than going from great to the best or integrating pretty big lineup changes.

I can't say that I am fully on board with the "fresh Embiid" narrative. Meniscus problems typically take way more time to heal than the rushed 2 months that he is coming back from. Robert Williams of the Celtics had the same issue and the same injury. When he came back, he was a shell of his usual self. He was slower, had limited mobility, and effectively was playing on one leg. He couldn't jump. battle, or defend nearly as well, and was a liability by getting out of position on pick and rolls. He tried coming back after a month and actually made his medical problem worse, requiring surgery that kept him out of the first 30 games of the following season.

Every injury and recovery time is different, but IMO, Embiid is probably playing at 65-70%. From the limited amount I have seen of him, he's out of shape and I would guess won't be able to play extended minutes. I have seen several analysts suggest that he really should have packed it in for this season and make a fresh go of it next year when his body was healed, he had time to fully rehab, and enough time had elapsed where his knee would not have been a major concern. But he didn't, and his strength and conditioning will very likely be a concern the rest of the playoffs. I would be really surprised if he played 38-40 minutes in the playoffs, and there is a decent chance he has to miss some games due to soreness, swelling, or tweaking the injury. I can't possibly imagine that the knee will continue to heal up at the usual recovery pace by playing on it multiple times per week . . . and I would suggest that there's a more likely chance that continuing to play on it will make it more of a problem.

Maybe 20-25 minutes and 25 points from Joel is enough to make the Sixers more competitive, but I am not sure that makes them close to the team they were at the beginning of the season. We'll have to see how things go, but I can see a team like the Celtics running Embiid raged in an effort to cover the perimeter, trying to keep up with Horford or KP on the outside while still guarding the paint. As a for instance, Embiid scored 29 points in 32 minutes and change against the Heat the other night . . . and was a -19 for the game.

He has such a good looking shot too. Going down 8% for a year in 3 point shooting is really bizarre.

Part of what made him such a pleasant surprise his first two seasons was his shooting - possibly the biggest knock on him coming into the league was his shooting ability. He shot 32.5% from three in college on 234 attempts.

With his FT% and his shooting mechanics, I assume this year is an aberration, but you don't often see good shooters with this kind of year long dip.

Not to take anything from the Magic, but this just shows how bad the east is. The Magic shouldn't be fighting for the 2 seed this season.
Maybe not but I promise you that I do not gaf

I wouldn't either and if they get a really good guard and a shooter they are going to be really good really soon.

Anf Simons would like to return to Florida.

Clippers 4 vs Mavs 5 seems pretty likely. 2 games, LA owns tiebreaker so really 3 games, 4 to play. LA has phoenix twice so anything is possible. But to steal HCA, looks like Dallas needs to go 4-0 vs 1-3 or 3-1 vs 0-4, and those both seem unlikely to happen.

bucks are bad bad right now brohans and it is breaking my heart take that to the bank

According to Shaq they are just "resting" - nothing to worry about.
The Celtics have been resting for a couple of weeks now. They've won 8 of their last 10.

Bucks have been ‘resting’ since last season’s playoff exit. Checkmate.
None of this really matters for the Bucks. Milwaukee could have won the last 4 games by 20 points each and have the 2 seed locked up. That wouldn't matter one bit if they dropped the opening round series.

The Milwaukee Bucks have to beat every non-Celtics team they face in the playoffs or this season is a disappointment on the court. Off the court, it's probably all worth it because their moves got Giannis to sign a big, long-term contract. The roster configuration around Giannis, Dame, and Middleton can be changed this offseason.

Maybe but they are deep into the tax with no draft assets left. I'm not sure they have any cards left to play.

Can our friends of the deer convey their feelings about the Bucks' decision to move on from Adrian Griffin (30-13) and installing Doc Rivers instead (15-17)? MIL has a net rating of +0.9 under Doc, ranking 14th in that category (16th on offense and 11th on defense).

Mistakes were made. In order, with 20/20 hindsight:

1. Should not have fired Bud.
2. Should not have hired AG.

Firing AG when they did was the right move. Hiring Doc was probably a mistake, but I'm not sure what options they had at that time.

Yeah I'm just riffing on a funny comment I saw from Shaq. I'm not sure he's seen the Bucks play yet this season.

When the team fired Bud, signed Dame in the summer, and Giannis extended, I would've said anything less than making the NBA finals would be a failure and I think most Bucks fans would have agreed at the time. Expectations were off the charts. They clearly went all-in on a championship. Expectations have obviously changed since, but I'm not quite ready to look ahead to the offseason just yet.
