So, Wemby may be as advertised.

He seems impossible to guard and is very active on defense.

He really is a unicorn. Nice coming out party tonight.

PHX not looking so good dropping two in a row to SA at home. Not sure Beal will make that much of a difference.

Where are all the chirpy Yusef Nurkic defenders now? Outplayed by Dale Eubanks yet again. Sad!

Isn't that the guy who hosted the Newlywed Game?

does the early success change San Antonio’s thought process? Do they eye some trades in season to compete for division title and playoffs? Or do they stay course and wait until offseason.

What is their cap situation like? And what type of player can they trade for now?

If they are smart and I assume they are they will let this play out. No need to go all in this year.

Their cap situation is fantastic and between that, their young players, and stockpile of picks, they could do just about anything they want honestly, but I think there is virtually no chance that they will do anything to rush the process this year. They know they want to be set up for the long term and that Wemby still needs to develop physically and in his on-court game in order to have sustained success.

Unless they can acquire a young PG or forward on the same timeline as the rest of the team on a reasonable deal, they would be ****ing nuts to go all in. We see what happened with AD in New Orleans and Doncic in Dallas. Don't do that.

Are you sure…Wemby is already into his second week as a pro…next thing you know it will be January and he will be turning 20 and you will have already wasted his teenage years.

With Wemby coming out of the gate so strong been having some Ralph Sampson flashbacks…totally different era but when he was a freshmen at UVA he was going to be not just the next Bill Russell but totally change the game due to his freakish combo of size and skill…it is amazing looking back at his college stats…they pretty much stayed the same from his freshman year to his senior year…always felt like his fascination with showing his guard skills set him back in a big way…he really never developed the way he should have…I don’t think he ever had that killer instinct as well…not sure why this is too relevant other than being a trip down memory lane when I see Wemby.

Completely disagree. They are rebuilding around Wembanyama and we don't know what kind of player he will be yet and you shouldn't be surrounding him with young, but established players around him that might not fit what role he grows into.

For example (this isn't happening it is just an easy example) Luka demands out of Dallas this off-season. Seems like a perfect fit, but maybe Wembanyama has a game like Jokic and needs the ball in his hands constantly and it stunts his growth maybe he is more like Tim Duncan with a better handles and outside game and he needs/wants a facilitator. There is absolutely no reason to commit to another player until year 2 or 3 when you really know what will compliment him and bring the best in both players. If it was done now they are just guessing.

But do they have room maybe for a player like Malcom Brogdon or OG Anunoby? Or Pascal Siakam?

I see San Antonio as a Jaylen Brown destination next offseason. BOS likely has to get off that money. Might be a year too early for San Antonio to go all in, but a Vassell, Brown, Wemby top three is pretty juicy.

That sounds like wishcasting.

The Spurs take on 5-year $300M contract for a 25/6/3 guy with a good 3-point game, while they already have Keldon Johnson locked down for seasons 24-25-26 at $54M, and he'll probably settle in as an 18/5/2 guy with similar 3-point skills. Plus, it does not address the biggest need, PG.

Y'all have a great run coming this season, but I don't think Brown's worth is anywhere close to $60M/yr, which makes him a long-term roster murderer.

NO SALE

Maybe. I am not sure any of those guys fit the Spurs timeline. If I was the Spurs I wouldn't mind getting someone for a playoff push for the experience, but I am not resigning them to crazy deals because they don't fit. So when you do that you can't give up a ton of assets to get them and let them walk.

Assuming Wembanyama is everything we think, then they need to be patient. Be patient and enjoy the journey or you end up like the Cavs after they drafted LeBron trying to force a championship run and taking on bad deals and aging players that never help.

I can't think of any transcendent talent like Wemby that was held back by having awesome teammates.

There are very few stars younger than 25 that will be both available and who I would consider chasing, so it's a moot point from my POV. If I were the Spurs, the only players that I think I would consider trading for that have any even small chance of being traded in the next year are Doncic, LaMelo, and maybe JJJ (if they look to blow it up - just because that would be a silly good fit).

Would James Harden fall into that category? I’m certainly aware that he’s not a transcendent talent now—but he never really could show off his skills early in his career on the Thunder with guys like Russ, KD, and Ibaka (who was solid when he was young). When he got moved to Houston in his third or fourth year in the NBA—he jumped from being a really good bench player/decent starter—to being a legit perennial all star and face of the franchise.

Speaking of future Spur's draft picks, here's the first list I found that's not an absolute eyesore. It does not include a 2030 1st round swap with the Mavs. As soon as next year, they could be sitting pretty on draft day.

Good chance the Charlotte pick never conveys (they are very likely a lottery team the next 2 years). Their own picks aren't looking all that juicy considering how good Wemby is. Atlanta is likely a playoff team the next couple years

The good though. Toronto pick is likely conveying this year for they aren't bottom 6 bad, so that could be a nice mid lottery pick. And the 2025 Chicago pick that is top 10 protected then top 8 looks decent.

I suppose he could but he was the third of those three drafted and KD always was by far the best talent of the group, so it was obvious he could and never would be the lead dog of that group.

The ATL picks are solid too. The real value will be discovered as they package some of those picks into deals, along with taking advantage of their solid salary cap standing to enhance deals. If I were GM, hitching a young stud PG to Wemby's wagon would my top priority, and then using draft capital to fuel talent infusions for the next ten years.

Bob Eubanks! Surprisingly still with us.

So they can put this stupid in season tourney trophy logo at mid court but not in the finals?

What the hell happened to the Miami heat court? Looks like a slam ball court.

Didn't get the sentiment at first, as I was chilling watching Knicks at Bucks. Holy #### that's terrible. The red is a bad choice, combining it with gray is a crime.

EDIT: I mean, change the gray to yellow and extort all the marketing dollars from McDonalds. It was right there.

Is everybody in the nba front office high?

Haha, I didn't think it could get any worse than this MIL home court but after seeing others, big yikes. The only reasoning I can think of is trolling the public so we comment, post and bring more attention to the Tourney.

that was Weeb Ewbank

This Shaedon Sharpe fellow might be up to something.
Nice win for the Blazers last night. No Scoot or Simons and they managed to come back and take one away from the Grizzlies. When healthy, they have pretty solid young talent at the guard, the wing, and the big positions. I certainly don’t think they will contend this season, but I do think that they are starting at a pretty decent spot for the rebuild.
