>>Interesting Heat opted to make Jaquez untradable for a month, by league rule, amid Lillard pursuit. Perhaps Jovic, among many other things, could interest Portland.<<
He's only made $15M in his career, taking that vs the Nuggets' offer was a no-brainer.I made this argument as well and certainly understand how this pacers deal is better, but from a strictly guaranteed money standpoint, it is only a difference of $6 million (assuming Denver would have given the 1+1 at 7.8), which is far closer than I anticipated it being.Thinking about that Bruce brown deal a little more, it is a little surprising that he would take that over staying in Denver, assuming there were no better offers.
It definitely has better upside between the potential for next year’s salary and the potential for a bigger role so that he could show off more and get paid more later, but he basically chose a guaranteed $22 million over a guaranteed $16 million to stay.
Maybe he didn’t trust the kroenkes to make things right down the line. (I probably wouldn’t.)
For a guy like Brown you only got so many opportunities to cash in...there is a good chance his value may never be higher due to winning a title...he has now put his family in a very good spot...if he rolls the dice and gets hurt or his play takes a step backwards he could easily miss his window.
I’m nervous. From that maybe real, maybe fake account:

Philadelphia will be included in this. It'll be one of the biggest three team deals in history.

A potential Portland-Miami deal for Damian Lillard would almost certainly include the involvement of a third team, league sources tell @NBAonTNT, @BleacherReport.
Maximizing one year's earnings is a simplistic way of viewing the world. If Travis Kelce could make 3 times as much in one year I am pretty confident he would no longer be a ChiefBecause some pro athletes factor winning championships into their career decision-making.Instead he got a guaranteed 22.5 million for one year. How is this even a debate? He could have gotten 7.8 this year with a Player option for next year. That is essentially $16 million guaranteed.
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce admits he thinks about how much more money he could be making if he "pressed the gas" on his contract, but ultimately, winning is more important to him.
Travis Kelce OK being underpaid
Brown's decision was more about optimizing the combination of earnings + winning over a career.
Dillon Brooks 4 years/$80M

Either read more carefully and/or please link to where I said he shouldn't have taken the deal. I'm only answering why its being debated.Maximizing one year's earnings is a simplistic way of viewing the world.

Some of you guys are in Bizarro World on this. $22.5M vs. $7.8M this season is a nobrainer for a guy like Brown. Especially given that the implication of the contract is that he will get a bigger role with IND than DEN. It's not even a decision.

This might be about the worst signing since the calamity of 2016. Holy ****.Dillon Brooks 4 years/$80M deal with Rockets.

At what one-year figure with second year team option would it not have been a "no-brainer?" That's what Brown's situation made me think about. Oh. So "Brown's decision was more about optimizing the combination of earnings + winning over a career" = you agree he should have taken the contract with IND. Turns out we agree.
"I'm only answering why it is being debated." It isn't being debated by anyone who isn't a Denver fan. Because there is literally no reasonable reason for anyone without a bias to debate it.

Sorry if that doesn't fit into your little box of what is and isn't "reasonable" to discuss.

I'm resigned to the fact that we're not winning a championship by who we bring in. The only way it happens is if Joel and Maxey elevate to a whole other level of play. I don't think that ever happens though.Jalen McDaniels 2yr $9.3mm to Toronto. Seems like one Sixers could have kept.
Every Morey move has ended up a net negative so far

Since the Lillard thing is so similar to the KG thing (superstar who wants to stay and win, stays for a long time, finally has to leave but reamins loved by the fans) so I finally did somethingi I have always wanted to do. I traced the entire legacy of the KG trade. It's definitely the nerdiest thing I've ever done - and that's a high bar - but I had nothing better to do today.
For example, KG was traded for (in part) Sebastien Telfar, who was traded Mark Blount, who was traded for Antoine Walker, who was traded for Kevin Love, who was traded for Thaddeus Young, who as traded for KG, who retired which ends that line.
So without further delay, here is everyong who played for the Wolves whose time here can be traced back to the big KG to the Celtics trade. So this is about what you can expect @General Malaise once Lillard is traded.

Love love love the Buddy Boeheim shoutout, but he ain't a wing. The Pistons roster has 8 guards and 4 guys that can only play center or old school power forward. I liked the Troy Weaver hire a few years ago, but he has got to go now.
We have 4 wing players. Bodan, Livers, Buddy Boeheim, and the Thompson kid we just drafted. T
Brooks contract is the first one I literally laughed out loud at. Thought it had to be a fake Woj account. Houston’s offense is going to be breathtakingingly bad this year, might be my favorite league pass team. Can't believe Brooks GOT BOTH the AAV and length. I thought with how all ended in Memphis, he'd have to do a near vet min one year deal.
(I haven't looked deep into deal....maybe there's team options/no guarantees in there).
What he and FVV got is absolutely nuts. Both are average to below average NBA starters at their positions IMO. Why it's always laughable when I hear "they had money to spend!!". Ok well, don't tie it up moronically for the next many years on guys that have zero business making that type money
It is kind of weird they they didn’t pay at least that much unless they just hated himJalen McDaniels 2yr $9.3mm to Toronto. Seems like one Sixers could have kept.

Is it?Not sure if this is in here, but brook Lopez back to the bucks for 2/48. Pretty good deal for the bucks.
What does that mean?unless he learns to shoot consistently.
He got the Ben Simmons treatment in the playoffs and it wrecked the Kings offense. What does that mean?unless he learns to shoot consistently.
He has been a league leader in FG% for his entire career.

Sabonis with a 5 year / 217 extension. I love the guy but that’s pretty gross unless he learns to shoot consistently.
He was freaking awesome this year but in this day and age I don’t think anyone was going to outbid what the Kings could offer him next offseason. Centers just aren’t as valuable anymore. Maybe I’m underestimating the Pistons.Sabonis with a 5 year / 217 extension. I love the guy but that’s pretty gross unless he learns to shoot consistently.
He lead the NBA in rebounds. He led the Kings in assists as well. Assists ... from the center position. I hope he hits his midrange shot a little more consistently, but if he never shoots the ball outside of five feet, he's still worth the money.

You may be right, but a center that you can run your offense through might be little more valuable. I guess the biggest reason I think this is good news is that they now have a core that is locked up for a few years. If you're going to make a run, you need some consistency. That, and I'm imagining the Kings offense without Sabonis ... and oooooof
Letting him go 100% was not an option, I agree. I would have just rather tried to get another rotation player in FA this year first because I think the flight risk was relatively low. Like a Thybulle type (restricted but the Kings might have been able to offer something the Blazers wouldn’t have matched). He was freaking awesome this year but in this day and age I don’t think anyone was going to outbid what the Kings could offer him next offseason. Love Obi in Indiana. Turner is a great frontcourt complement with his defense + spacing, should be a really fun team.Obi Toppled to Pacers for 2 2nds![]()
Still don't think they can get to three picks. If they take the protections off, that pick to OKC conveys in 2025. Which means 2024, 2026 are off limits. so best MIA can offer the 2027 and 2029. 2031 is not eligible to be traded yetheat will likely take the lottery protection off the pick to okc to allow them to give 3 first rounders to Portland and then it just becomes which players get shuffled.
There have been 10ish real headscratchers but did the most part I think signings have actually been fairly reasonable.Pretty much every signing is getting blasted in here for being an 'overpay'. With the big cap jump, this is just how it's going to be now.
Not sure how anyone can love this. If Toppin wasn't a lottery pick nobody could care. He is a fine player but he can't shoot and is nothing to get excited aboutLove Obi in Indiana.
