Good news fam. Ant is on vacation in Turks and Caicos, and considering he just signed with a new agent 4 days ago it makes total sense he hasn't signed his extension yet. Just in case, even though you know it's 99.8% he's going to sign, any of you are nearly in a total panic.
I was never worried GB.

Locked. Down.

Minnesota has razor thin margin for error. The trade that cost them Wiggins but more importantly the pick that became Kuminga is a death shot for this team. I can see needing to get out from under Wiggins given what Wiggins was and became and self inflicted on that roster. But losing Kuminga is going to be devastating. The argument could be made that a better GM could have send something less than the Kuminga pick to get DLo. The Wolves got the inferior player and gave up a critical blue chip draft pick to do it.

Anthony Edwards is very likely to force his way off this team eventually. Once he signed with Klutch Sports, it was inevitable that he would be a Laker at some point soon. Rich Paul ran a Pro Day for Edwards and others that broke the unwritten rules for agents and he just didn't care.

Direct Headline: Anthony Edwards leaving Klutch.

Direct Headline: Anthony Edwards signs with WME sports.

Direct Headline: Jonathan Kuminga has fallen out of favor in Golden State.

Direct Headline: Anthony Edwards signs five year extension with Timberwolves.

I'll leave this here for others to discuss.

We're paying attention to his NBA posts now?

I don't think it will happen, but I would like to see Dame on the Nets. Lillard, Cam, Bridges, Dinwiddie, Claxton, Walker, Finney-Smith, O'Neal. Would be a very fun and competitive team.
Dont think Dame fits the Nets window - Adding Dame would probably give them a 2-3 year window to be relevant but not sure that group gets them over the top

Lots of chatter on Nets boards of being the 3rd team in the Portland/Miami deal - Nets would send Simmons to Portland and a 1st rder to Miami for Herro so Miami can send more picks to Portland. Simmons is basically a large expiring in 2 yrs. Not sure if realistic or not but to get rid of that contract of Ben and add Herro for just a 1st would be great IMO!

I agree. Wherever Herro ends up he will be a solid player for that team. As a Heat fan you hate to see someone you drafted and developed leave, but that is how the NBA works...

To be honest (and I have no idea how Miami makes this happen) but figure getting out from under Herro, Lowry, and Duncan's contract (in that order since Duncan does a lot of what Struss did) is likely Miami's goal in the Dame deal. Miami is going to be in the Tax for sure for the next 3-4 years but Edelsberg et al in the front office will likely want to stay under the second apron for as much of the "window" we'd have with Jimmy and Dame (again, not getting ahead of ourselves, just talking).

Pretty much the rest of Miami's roster if this happens is minimum salary vets and undrafted guys Miami will hope to develop.

I also think if the Dame deal happens Goran Dragic's name will come up as a backup PG to Dame.

Why is the Bane max extension less money than the others from that class?

Without knowing the other players I would assume it is because they made All-NBA teams and Bane hasn't. All-NBA players can be offered more money on a max deal.
Believe it or not, Ant hasn't made an all-NBA team despite deserving it, so that's not it. Maybe draft slot since Bane was so late? Or maybe all-star teams made?

Has to be something with All Star games as Haliburtion, Ant, and Lamelo have all made one (as well as the All Rookie team). NBA rules are so complicated.

Jokic and Javier go off in heat summer league tonight. May not be available for the dame trade if they keep showing out like that.

Please tell me you are just trolling us. Can't let go of a couple of guys that have a couple good summer league games for a top 15ish player in the whole league.

Joking aside, Heat signed Jacquez to his rookie deal already, so he is ineligible to be included in any Dame trade right now. Nice F you from Miami since I think he’s the only 1st round pick already signed.

Edwards, Haliburton and Ball have the All-NBA escalator clauses that could take the guaranteed $207 million up to $260 million, sources said. I don't know why Bane doesn't.

Ah I get it now. It is an escalator they could get if they meet the criteria in the future. Guess Bane's agent couldn't get that language.

Bulls sign Torrey Craig

Organization seems so directionless. I don't know on what planet they believe they can compete as constructed.
Why didn’t the Suns bring him back? Seems like they could use the depth. I haven’t seen the contract number officially reported but it seems to be a minimum or near-minimum deal with a second-year player option.

Free agent C Mason Plumlee has agreed on a one-year, $5 million deal to return to the LA Clippers, agent Mark Bartelstein of @Prioritysports tells ESPN. Plumlee landed with Clippers at deadline and decides to stay with LA despite bigger financial offers elsewhere.

Championship.

Windhorst voice: Curious that Celtics haven’t announced a Jaylen Brown extension yet. Why is that?
The Athletic just published an article on this topic.

Here are some pieces of it:

While the Jaylen Brown extension is the most important piece of business, league and team sources told The Athletic the first domino they expect to fall will be Grant Williams’ restricted free agency. The sources were granted anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the record.

Discussions over a designated veteran extension for Brown are expected to pick up steam soon, as the negotiating parties head to Las Vegas Summer League. While several designated rookie extensions have been agreed upon since free agency opened, the Brown contract is more complicated. Sources with knowledge of the discussions told The Athletic that the delay is due to the flurry of free agency activity this past week.

Heat telling potential free agents they aren’t doing anything else until the dame trade is figured out. Miami evidently isn’t sure if they will need to pick up more players or if they are getting more than just dame in the deal so they can’t move forward until it’s hashed out.

nets were taking herro but they want to offload Simmons and that is the latest “sticking point” in the deal (nets would give miami another first rounder to package with their available picks for herro to satisfy the Portland part of the deal. (Plus who knows who from our roster))

I think it was more like 2/10

Spotrac has him 2/5.37 but, honestly, 2/10 makes more sense.

I know not everyone likes Bill Simmons but I do and I listen to his podcast regularly. He has been saying there is no way the Celtics will retain GW because of the new cap rules. It would surprise me if he was off base on this, since he obviously follows the Celtics closely and seems to have a good grasp of the new CBA.

I follow NFL cap stuff closely, and have found that OverTheCap is much more reliable than Spotrac for NFL cap info. I don't really follow NBA cap stuff closely, so not sure if that carries over.

Meh. Simmons thinks he knows the CBA and cap stuff but he only has a rudimentary grasp of it. The new cap rules dont preclude Boston from keeping Grant by any stretch. I think we will see plenty of teams go over the second apron to make a run for the title and then just look to offload money the following year. Boston would have no problem finding a home for Grant next year.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Being over the second apron is not just about the tax, it comes with a number of other limitations. As of right now, I strongly doubt 'plenty' of teams will go over the second apron chasing a title in the 2024-25 season and beyond, when all of those additional penalties kick in.

I can’t seem to find any confirmation anywhere, so maybe I just totally made that up…but I swore I saw that.
