Are the Pistons ever gonna be good again?

(Sorry MSUDaisy)

Probably not. It starts at the top with our horrible owner. Our GM was supposed to be one of the gurus from OKC, he clearly forgot to pack his MOJO. I loved hiring Williams, but he already found his new Ayton and it is Ivey. It is very odd because by all accounts the kid is an extremely hard worker. He should be getting all the minutes he can handle since this season is already over.

You are a 76er fan, so imagine going through the process and completey botching it and then starting over. The only two pieces we have are Cade, who looks really good, but can't stay healthy, and Duren who is the type of big man you can't pay big money and win with.

I have a really bad feeling they are to do something stupid like trade for LaVine and set the franchise back another decade.

I had no idea Kevin Knox was still in the league. He's starting for the Pistons.

The team Troy Weaver has put around Cade Cunningham should be criminal.

Is it too early to complain about the Pistons getting screwed in the lottery this year?

Can the NBA just treat them as an expansion team? All the other teams in the league can protect 10 players and then we get to pick some guys off some rosters.

He was waived at the beginning of the season from somewhere else and just signed with the pistons a couple of days ago.

He was also traded like 4 times last year.

So things are going well for him.

I just saw that the pistons have 82 wins since 2019-20. The next worst team (Houston) has 109. That is amazing.

Edit: fake news, he was only traded once last year. Not sure who I’m thinking of, someone like him.

Good news is I'd say you probably got the 2nd best player in the 2023 draft. Most teams would love to have a guy like Ausar who does a little bit of everything. Shot still needs work but definitely a more complete player than his brother.

Bad news is that when you win the lottery you get Cade Cunningham. I have doubts that he will ever be "him"

Kid is incredible defensively. Currently top 10 in the NBA in both rebounds and blocks as a 20-year-old rookie wing, and even better by the eye test.

There's a lot to not like about the Pistons, but Ausar was a great grab.

He won't. I get that he's a playmaker and distributor, but he's a crap shooter. He shoots the three like Ben Simmons. The only difference is that Cade thinks he's good at it.

LeBron goes for 37/6/8, has a huge assist for a clutch Reaves 3 to take a late lead, and hits a game winning FT, and what does he talk about in a post game interview?

He emphasized how important Tuesday’s game against the Jazz is to secure home court in the knockout stage of the In Season Tournament. The smartest player in the league knows it’s all about the IST, baby!

We are less than 15 games into this classes career, there is absolutely no way anyone can say that with any confidence.

I don't know your definition of "him", but he has shown flashes of being a number 2 guy on a championship caliber roster. Now he has to stay healthy and be more consistent.

They would end up with a roster of 14 backup centers and cade.

That would be an improvement because right now they have a bunch of centers that shouldn't be in the league with Cade and Duren.

Genuine question, is there any statistical case for Cade having shown star potential? I know last year was mostly a lost year for him, but that basketball reference page currently looks pretty underwhelming at best. Maybe I'm missing something.

Lol, do you even watch basketball?

Yeah, I was reaching for the comparison trying to think of a bad long range shooter.

My point was that he isn't, and never has been, a very good 3pt shooter. But despite that, he still puts up a lot of them. And I know he went three for five last night, but the the previous four games he as five for twenty.

He has been inefficient, but a lot of young players are. In terms of games played. He is basically entering his 2nd year. He has shown flashes of superstar potential, but is he showing those flashes and ends being Trae Young or does he take the next step and start looking like SGA? I don't know, but if he stays healthy I think we will be able to make a good case either way by the end of this year.

I saw an awesome stat the other day, since we brought up Ben Simmons.

Steph Currys would have to miss his next 16614 three point attempts to basically be tied with Ben Simmons career three point percentage. Curry averages around 700 attempts a healthy season, he would have to play 22 more full seasons to attempt that many three point fgs. He would be 58 years old at the end of that year.

You can't make this stuff up . . .

Cade shot 40% from 3 in college. He's also an 85% FT shooter, which has some predictive value for how young players will develop from long range. I think his shooting struggles are largely due to taking bad shots for an awful team more than lack of ability.

But for a Pistons discussion, there's way too much Cunningham talk and not nearly enough about their franchise player, Ausar Thompson.

Trae’s worst TS% was 53.9 as a rookie and is 57.9 for his career. Cade’s career number is 50 and it’s 49.1 this year. So he’s got a long way to go to before we can say Trae’s efficiency is his floor.

It was just a couple of random players on either side of the spectrum.

Another great stat, in the last calendar year the Lions have more wins than the Pistons.
I saw on Reddit today that there is going to be another Beverly Hills Cop movie with pretty much the whole cast returning. Somebody made a comment that since the first one was released 39 years ago, the Lions have only won a single playoff game (for those that have never seen the movie, Eddie Murphy is from Detroit in the movies and wears a lions jacket for nearly the whole first or second movie, if I remember correctly).

I thought there was no way that could be true, so I looked it up. They have just that one single playoff win since Eisenhower was in office. That **** blows my mind.

He wears it in the second movie, which wasn't bad though not nearly as good as the first.

Lebron is still a beast. I love watching the old man dominate just not against the Rockets. They played tough but lost another close game in LA at the buzzer (granted, the patented Harden step back 3 and foul hurt a little more).

Sengun looked good with both AD and Lebron trying to guard him. They didn't really have an answer. Think he was +25 in in the loss. You can almost book him for a 20/10/5 on 60% FG every night. Probably the best player from the 2021 draft. Sengun is him. Cade, not so much.

It's close, but I don't believe it's true. Going back to 11/20 in 2022, the Pistons have 16 wins while the Lions have 14 wins. Certainly nothing to brag about, though.
I think they were using calendar year from January 1st on. The point shouldn't be lost either way. An NFL team plays just over 20 percent of the games an NBA team does. It shouldn't be close.

Went to the Pistons/Nuggets game tonight. Jokic was ejected in the second quarter. And Mike Malone was ejected in the first.

And the Pistons still lost their 12th in a row. They are just terrible.

So Batum might be what the Sixers were hoping PJ Tucker was. Not quite as good on D I guess, but better overall.
I think replacement player/comp at this point for pj is the kid with the mop after free throws.
My #analysis shows:
1- batum, while old, seems to not have concrete shoes on whilst playing
2- nice to see batum seems to be able to raise his arms above his head unlike pj
3- batum also seems able to inhabit areas of the court AND participate in shooting from other spots than just corner 3
4- lastly, batum seems to have an ability to make decisions AND act on them rather than slowly wait for defense to gobble him up
5- maybe a bit of 1 on 1 defense lost but team d/size from batum is a plus and I don’t think rebounding is a detraction at this point on this less slow and dumpy version of the team.

So I didn't get to see the Celtics game last night, but had read about it. Just watched the end of 4th quarter sequence and wow, what a crapshow by Boston. They were up 9 with 2:20 to play after a J'rue 3 pointer. Following that the sequence was:
1. 2-pt rebound putback by Mark Williams after a failed blockout by Brown, 108-101
2. Jaylen Brown missed 15 ft fadeway after dribbling for 20 seconds with zero passes.
3. No one guards Ball in transition, he drains a 3. 108-104
4. Jaylen Brown missed 3-pt, foul on Ball on the rebound, Celtics retain posession.
5. Tatum misses a driving layup. Easy look at the rim and it just rolls out. Hornets rebound.
6. Hornets struggle to get into a set, but Ball drives the lane, hits Mark Williams, who's initial shot is blocked by Porzingis, but he gets it right back and lays it in. 108-106
7. J'rue dribbles clock down to 10 seconds and drives to basket and gets fouled but misses BOTH free throws. Hornets rebound & TO.
8. Inbounds to Ball who drives and makes a tough hanging layup with 2 defenders on him, tied at 108-108 with 7 seconds left.
9. Celtics TO to advance. Get ball to Tatum on wing he holds the ball for a few seconds, draws a double team, throws it to Hauser at the top of the key who air balls a contested 3 at the buzzer.
They go to OT where Boston blows it for the loss.

Only saving grace was that it was the 2nd night of a back-to-back for Boston, but that was a bad sequence. Lots of laziness and poor execution, missed layup, missed FT's and very poor final possession (I swear if I see one more 3 pointer taken at the buzzer in a tie game, I'm going to stab someone. When all you need is 1 point, why are we taking contested 3's?)

Boston is still a great team, but letting that one slip away was just poor for a group of professionals. They played like Jr High kids for the last 2 minutes.

Udoke not keeping it in his pants was a big loss for this team...hate to take a shot at Mazzula because it is trendy and he is still developing but just not sure he's the HC to get them over the hump and win a championship.

:lmao:

They are 11-3, in first place, and undefeated at home. This was a road back to back. Even a ****ty team like Charlotte is going beat some good teams.

worst 11-3 team to lose a road back to back in NBA history, though?

The C’s have been a very good for a while now and right now I believe they are the most talented team in the NBA…what you are pointing out is beyond obvious…the issue is can they go from being contender to champion and right now the biggest question mark is their HC and my bigger point was Udoke seemed to be the perfect fit until he turned into a Human Resources issue.
