Just finished my own little tape delay of Dallas-Phoenix. Man I wish I had got to be there tonight. Some thoughts:
1. Having players who dislike each other is better for the league
2. Man I hate Phoenix so much
3. Holy cow Kevin Durant is good. If he hadn't made all his own beds post GS, I'd feel bad for him because he went from making them get the mentally weak AF Harden to the NBA's mentally weakest star frontrunner in Booker.
4. Booker is so far and away my least favorite meaningful NBA player it isn't even close. I don't see anyone else get such a weak and wildly beneficial whistle on both ends of the floor. He scores all the easiest buckets, when they're already winning or in the first or 3rd quarter, and he disappears anytime it's competitive or the game matters (see Denver series, Dallas series, Bucks series, Kentucky postseason). He's a wuss (most FBG appropriate word I can think of) and a massive frontrunner. I loooooove watching him quickly turn from smile to whine.
5. Gafford and PJ Washington are so important. Basically 48 minutes of Lively/Gafford per game is amazing. Washington did a number on KD repeatedly making him work. and evry time Washington dribbles I'm reminded how amazing it is to have role players who can drive a closeout (unlike our boy Grant Williams).
6. Booker again: I think he's the only player I've ever seen get an iso with Luka and call for a pick. The opposite tends not to happen, Book just gets cooked.
7. Luka's defense is going unnoticed this year. Still not amazing, but possibly above average an definitely above average effort. He took his turns on KD and Booker and aside from one ole play with Allen, he was in stance, locked in, moving his feet all night.
This Dallas team, healthy, is deep and dangerous. And now holds the home court tiebreaker over Phoenix too. They're 2-2 with New Orleans, I'd have to look up next tiebreaker (divisional record? conference?).
