I also find it kind of curious that the wolves traded for monte Morris and then extended Conley. I guess they figured that having Morris for a pretty cheap price this year was worthwhile, but kind of seemed like they knew they couldn’t re-sign Conley and wanted a cheaper insurance policy. Maybe getting Morris also gave them leverage to get Conley to sign a more team-friendly deal (though Conley is definitely a risk at his age).

Hilariously, the wolves still have cap holds for Greg Monroe, Evan turner and Aaron brooks on their books. I know it doesn’t matter but still always amusing to see those things.
Yeah, well we in WAS got that beat. Got a cap hold on Ian Mahimi for $23M. WTF.
They can just renounce the guy if they need the cap space. Every team in the league has weird cap holds for guys who were on their team, and are no longer in the league, but not retired.

I think that is right at least. I just kinda made that up
Only teams that have stayed above the cap. Having some ******** cap holds can actually be a little helpful for teams on the border of the cap line so they can act as an over the cap team and get the bigger mid-level exception.

What if they had the in season tournament during all-star weekend. Skip the actual all-star game, but still have the three point contest and dunk contest, maybe a few other silly contests or whatever. Would be pretty sick to have all the players and celebs in the house for the in-season final game

The players and coaches treat this as a vacation week. No chance this gets filled with real honest to goodness basketball.

Just finished my own little tape delay of Dallas-Phoenix. Man I wish I had got to be there tonight. Some thoughts:

1. Having players who dislike each other is better for the league
2. Man I hate Phoenix so much
3. Holy cow Kevin Durant is good. If he hadn't made all his own beds post GS, I'd feel bad for him because he went from making them get the mentally weak AF Harden to the NBA's mentally weakest star frontrunner in Booker.
4. Booker is so far and away my least favorite meaningful NBA player it isn't even close. I don't see anyone else get such a weak and wildly beneficial whistle on both ends of the floor. He scores all the easiest buckets, when they're already winning or in the first or 3rd quarter, and he disappears anytime it's competitive or the game matters (see Denver series, Dallas series, Bucks series, Kentucky postseason). He's a wuss (most FBG appropriate word I can think of) and a massive frontrunner. I loooooove watching him quickly turn from smile to whine.
5. Gafford and PJ Washington are so important. Basically 48 minutes of Lively/Gafford per game is amazing. Washington did a number on KD repeatedly making him work. and evry time Washington dribbles I'm reminded how amazing it is to have role players who can drive a closeout (unlike our boy Grant Williams).
6. Booker again: I think he's the only player I've ever seen get an iso with Luka and call for a pick. The opposite tends not to happen, Book just gets cooked.
7. Luka's defense is going unnoticed this year. Still not amazing, but possibly above average an definitely above average effort. He took his turns on KD and Booker and aside from one ole play with Allen, he was in stance, locked in, moving his feet all night.

This Dallas team, healthy, is deep and dangerous. And now holds the home court tiebreaker over Phoenix too. They're 2-2 with New Orleans, I'd have to look up next tiebreaker (divisional record? conference?).

The Boston Celtics currently are the most efficient offense in NBA history.

1.210 points per possession
Tatum and Brown have been really good players for years, but efficiency wasn't really their forte.

This is a testament to Holiday, White & Porzingis. Those guys make the right play almost every time and improve Tatum & Brown's games tremendously. KP especially is incredible with his pick & pop 3-pt making and his high efficiency shooting over guys from the high post. Defenses have no solutions for them all.

or they could do a celebrity game like they used to do on mtv with a five point circle and stuff that would be so sick i want to see dolly parton putting a hakeem the dream post up move on anthony davis and anteaternintendo throwing one down over a crossed up jonah hill take that to the bank bromigo

I still can’t get over Holiday shooting 65% on corner threes. I would just have him camp out in the corner and let him shoot anytime he touched the ball.

The Boston collapse in the playoffs is going to be extra special this year in here.
:lmao:

I guess every team that doesn't win the championship collapses?
Wasn’t Boston down 3 games to 0 to that crap 8 seed? What would be a collapse if that wasn’t it?

The crap 8 seed that rolled over the 1 seed Bucks.

If Boston got swept, or lost 4-1, I would be right there with you calling it a collapse. Losing in 7 to Miami is not collapsing though

Considering how much fawning is going on in here over the Celtics, I'm just curious if anything other than a title is going to do? It's like a boyband fan club in here.
We can talk more Blazers if you'd like

WHY DO YOU THINK I'M SO SALTY!!!!1/>>???!11

I'm fully prepared for it after the last two seasons. Letting Curry go nuclear in the Finals and then watching the forking Heat shoot like....well.....2022 Steph Curry has made me very nervous about declaring anything.

I refuse to get beyond the "cautiously optimistic" stage anymore.

Boston collapsed last year, they should have never been down 3 - 0 and that performance in game 7 was an all time collapse.

The finals the year before weren't a collapse. They lost in 6 and had an all time great player carry a team to a title. The Celtics let the Heat tryhards go nuclear, no one was stopping Curry from going off.

As a Boston fan, I am in the title or bust camp. If they were mentally tougher, they could have extended the GS series. Last year, they shouldn’t have needed a Game 7 against MIA, and things could have been different if Tatum didn’t get hurt on the first possession. This year, they have consistently been the best team. If healthy, they should not need more than 6 games in any series (except maybe DEN). They potentially have flaws, but it remains to be seen if those are things that can be exploited enough for them to lose a series. Sure, they could go cold and an opponent could have a crazy shooting series. White and KP can make up for Tatum or Brown having off nights, and games when Tatum makes his threes they usually blow out teams. But until they win, people will question whether they can win.

Tatum is still just 25 years old. Steph and Lebron won their first title at age 27. Jordan was 28.
I think a bigger risk to their longer term title window is less their age and more ownership’s willingness to be higher in the repeater tax / second apron for too long with all the new penalties for high salary teams. This group is going to be really expensive to keep together.

I agree that there will be other chances / seasons. But if they don’t win this year, the season will go down as a disappointment. Suppose if they lost in a dogfight in the finals, then maybe that would be a step in the right direction. But a full stretch team should be talented enough to win. Put another way, they don’t have a way to really make the team better than the current roster.

They also lost by 30 in a game 7 at home. That’s a collapse under any definition.

Ownership has claimed they are not concerned about the salaries and the taxes involved to keep the team together. But they say that BEFORE they have to shell out all the money. They may find that there could be a better fit for fewer dollars than Brown. But that’s a wait and see situation.

lol whenever you know you’re wrong you just reply ok. I’m sorry your fave team collapsed to a far inferior team from a city where nobody cares but it did happen.

Giannis's knee folded inside out in the Phoenix series and they went on to win the title

Hey, maybe I should check the NBA standings. Maybe the Wiz are hanging around the playoff cut line and I can ride the late season intrigue?

Uh, no.

Wait, the Cavs and Knicks are good?

:checks roster:

I have never heard of any Cleveland player. Unless Otto Porter Jr. changed his first name to Craig.

That's cause Giannis is one of the three best basketball players on the planet

Got some action last night! Heat Pels and Warriors Hornets man.

Some observations:

1. Love did kinda throw Zion down IMO - not cool
2. The "don't score with time left on the clock above and beyond a shot clock" is the dumbest **** I've seen in a while. This started what like 2 years ago? Screw you guys, play til the end. Maybe if you took more offense at them scoring during the full playtime, the possession would matter more
3. Draymond finally said something funny when the fakest tough guy in the NBA went at them
4. It's not a good look to be a started and going after some no name end of the bench guy I've never heard of because he's taking a pretty open layup you let him have rather than commit a turnover as he tried to stay in the NBA
5. They say Alvarado threw a punch but didn't see it
6. My initial reaction is the Naji "choke" looked more like Butler shoved him and put hands on chest, he shoved back and got a little high, vs grabbing. I could be convinced I'm wrong.
7. Just glad New Orleans lost. Need them to lose for Dallas to get up to 5 and above.

Basketball players are such ****ing babies when it comes to this. Who the **** cares if the guy takes a shot with 5 seconds left when they are up by 10 points. Babies

I don't think it's just basketball players. And it's very recent. Only in the last couple years. Same thing happened in baseball ~10 years ago and ~3 years ago it became more of a "screw you, let's have some fun and flip some bats".

It's the same thing as the stupid all star game. You compete because you're supposedly a competitor. You're an all star, theoretically you want to be the best. The whole "don't want to get injured" thing is such complete and utter ******** when I've BEEN at summer pickup games with these guys and it's awesome. Hell, I've played in pickup games with some of these guys that were more intense.

Maybe the answer is that they need to put some non-all stars who are hungry in there. They just need like 3/10 guys who don't give a flying **** about being too cool to play in an all-star game and instead want to be like "I'm here to win, I'm the best, and I'm going right at LeBron trying to embarrass him."

Wemby throwing some shade at Ant was the best moment of the weekend.

At a sports convention in Macau today, Tsai said the league and China, home to 300 million NBA fans, “have mended their relationship” and the NBA would “love” to bring the games back to China and Macau.

It's just crazy how many people live in that country. To think that there's double the NBA fans in China than in the USA is a weird thought.
It's also crazy this is being considered because China is still exactly the same oppresive Communist regime, but hey, the news cycle has turned over several times and greed wins out over ethics every time.

Welcome to 2024 bud. It's been a few years since you followed the NBA?
