I’ve seen some Michigan fans saying “wE’rE in bAmA’s HeAd!” No, simple glimp, Saban isn’t stupid. He knows your cast-off can provide valuable intel on you and he’s also guarding against you stealing anything from him.

In terms of strategy, Saban is General Robert E. Lee and Harbaugh is a dumber version of George McClellan (if that’s possible).

You know bowl season has lost a lot of oomph when I don't know until today that OU played our game (against Arizona?) and lost, especially without the most important player...

We'll see how much longer this lasts but CFB landscape is gonna have some big time changes.

Was just thinking about that this morning. I know the big games are still coming, but this thread used to have a lot more activity even during early bowl season. I believe there were 0 posts during the OU/AZ game.

My son is a current student at Minnesota and had no idea they were playing a bowl game a couple days ago. They were 5-7 this season and finished in last place in the Big Ten's weaker West Division. They did win their bowl game though - go Gophers!

I honestly don't get why people aren't interested in these games. I currently have Clemson/Kentucky on. And looking forward to all the other games today.

This is the last college football of the season. Why wouldn't you watch if you are a fan?

More football >>>>> less football.

Some reasons for declining interest are obvious:
  • Too many bowl games, with too many uncompelling teams playing in bowls
  • Realignment has eliminated a good amount of bowl tradition
  • Playoff has a ripple effect of reducing the importance/interest in all other bowl tiers
  • Opt outs to prepare for NFL draft and transfer portal departures can significantly lessen the quality of rosters and associated play on the field for bowl games
I don't disagree with more football > less football, but I'm only going to watch my team's bowl and the other bowls with most compelling matchups, which haven't really started yet IMO.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I started losing interest when the BCS was introduced. Going from one popularity contest to another just didn't make sense to me. There have been some good New Year's day games between then and now, but most of the ones weeks before suck.

Kentucky just scored to take the lead over Clemson.

I have to admit - I don't understand how any college football fan could not find it compelling to root against Dabo any chance you get. That is reason alone to watch this game.
I’m watching but the quality is not the same. I’m rooting for Dabo but the players not playing in bowl games due to the draft and transfer portal takes a toll on all of these games.

Also, the refs aren’t that good. The key play on Kentucky’s last TD was offensive PI and no flag. Not often you see a WR run through a CB standing still 20 yards downfield not get called. It was a massive collision.

I have watched 0 seconds combined of all the bowl games. Used to watch religiously. Now I'll tune in the weekend but I just don't care that much anymore. I know others that feel this way too.

I know yesterday I was getting a bit choked up thinking about all the history and pageantry behind the Poptart Bowl. I fought back a tear as I thought about all those student athletes that have dreamed all their lives about being handed a trophy by a giant eatable Poptart mascot.

1. The team isn't the team I watched all year
2. The players don't seem to care much, given transfers and NFL opt outs
3. My friends don't seem to care
4. If it's not the playoff, now I really don't care.
5. The NFL is oversaturating us - this week was the least football I've watched since August...I just want my amazing Sunday flipping games, with Monday night, and I can live with Thursdays since I have to. all day on Christmas is annoying, especially with saturday games too.

Yep all the unintended consequences of the changes that were cheered are coming to the surface. A lot of fan bases don’t care at all. I’m not watching nearly as much of the other games anymore because the players mostly don’t care and ESPN’s influence on everything is not good. I’ll just stick with the NFL than political bowl selections and a system that gives 8-10 teams a chance to win and a 9-3 season is now considered mediocre.

Its a damn shame Keith Jackson and Brent Musburger never got the opportunity to call a Poptart Bowl. I get goosebumps just imagining it.

Reason to watch ND today - Steve Angeli is almost certainly transferring after the game today. He’s going to be someone’s starter next year and today is his audition before he hits the portal.

He also has a fun nickname - “Peanut Butter.” Say it with his last name and you’ll get it.

Because "college football fan" is becoming less and less of a thing. CFB used to be one of those things with storylines between teams, tradition and pageantry. It is morphing into something similar to the NFL....we don't have "NFL fans" rather "fans of NFL teams". Things are becoming more team focused and even then, we're changing to focus on pulling for the jersey rather than the players. There are fewer and fewer Ronnie Bell types we can pull for where we can sit and watch their highest of highs and lowest of lows and support from their teammates as they experience all of it.

And I'm sorry y'all hate college football so much now. That would suck.

I still love it and have very much enjoyed the bowl games.

I don't know about Saban, but it's clear they are in some heads

All but the semi and title bowl games are a look into next year. That's the only reason to watch bowl games. NFL prospects probably shouldn't play. Its a huge risk. I was at the VT/Tullane game and partly due to the weather at least 12 guys went down. I think 2 with serious injuries. Pretty sure a senior WR on VT tore his ACL and they had to bring the cart out for a Tulane guy. A bowl game is not worth risking NFL money. Bo Nix for example is taking a risk. I'm sure it's a calculated risk to show off his talent. But really, is a bowl game gonna change what scouts think of Bo Nix. or any player. Not really. The combine and his pro day will have a much bigger impression. Sam Hartman is gonna be in a NFL camp. Might not get drafted but he will get signed.

Wait, Sam Hartman isn't playing in this because he wanted to focus on the NFL? Seriously?
Also after he told Freeman and the team that he was going to play. The Hartman era at ND ended with a thud and Freeman was not happy at his presser.
And ND boosters paid him NIL money. Can’t believe that’s not tied into playing the bowl game.
Ehh. Short of the playoffs, the bowls are just like an early spring game scrimmage now with NIL/NFL stakes. It’s actually better for the team that the players get some audition game film whether they’re staying or going.

The real question for me is what he’d have done in a 12 team playoff year if we were in. That fun starts next year and I’m sure some top picks on the teams in that 10-12 range of really unlikely to win the title might opt out.

Again, I don’t understand the difference between week 10-12 and a bowl if you’ve been eliminated.

It’s a distinction without a difference.
