2023 Las Vegas Raiders - RIP Jack - one of the greatest Super Bowl moments ever (1 Viewer)

Why does the Raider running game suddenly suck *** this season? One theory is that defenses don't respect Jimbo's ability to pass it beyond 3 to 5 feet.
That may be part of it, but he's pretty much on par with Carr last year (7.5 y/a, 11.1 y/c, 8.5 IAY for Jimmy and 7.3 y/a, 11.2 y/c, 9.2 IAY for Carr).

I said earlier that I think last year the o-line & Jacobs played well above their level. This year with no substantial improvement to the o-line and Jacobs missing the entire off season program and probably not too happy with how his contract played out simply are regressing to the mean.

The run game was marginally better last night. Then again the Steelers had the worst run defense in the league going into the game.
Money needs spent on the trenches, not running backs. Good organizations understand this and hopefully LV comes to their senses after this season. There was no point in signing Jacobs when the team was not playoff-caliber. Live and learn I guess, even though LV doesn’t seem smart enough to learn.

The Raiders lost to an average Steeler team. Their D is good but that O is terrible. It’s going to be another long season. In a few weeks, rumblings will begin for LV to move on from McD and by the end of the season it will be a roar that resembles the sound of the Steelers scoring a TD in LV.

But what were there options? No one was going to trade for him with his contract demands plus giving up draft picks.

Cut him and he immediately signs with Kansas City (or some other hated rival) on a team friendly contract and crushes.

It was a lose-lose situation. Paying Jacobs this year didn't kill the Raiders cap or prevent them from picking up some trench guys this past off-season.

Next Sunday is going to be a blood bath. I might go. :excited: :sadbanana: But the dolts will put up 50. And the fan base is going to be UNRULY.

the defense is terrible. Again. And at this point, they should have let jj sit out.

The defense wasn't terrible at all. The big play to Austin was a huge let down but they were strong most of the game. It's tough to be strong all game when you turn the ball over three times.

Man, Peters also missed out on a huge pick-6 opportunity. Just flat dropped that one. Felt like a game changer at that moment.

I’d say I feel bad for Raiders fans, but the bum cost us at least 1 SB, so it’s hard to sympathize. Nonetheless, he’s terrible and I’d fire a GM after bringing him in.

I apologize in advance as I really have nothing against the Raiders, but I absolutely love watching Jimmy throw picks and make those cringeworthy plays I’ve seen way too many of. As a lifelong Niners fan, I feel I’ve earned that right now that he’s not on the team.

It just seemed that way.. Keeping them to FGs was good, but the O not being able to respond makes it pointless. And giving up that equalizer right away was a gut punch. As was Peters dropping that pick six. I don’t know, just deflated today. I just had my yearly hope bubble popped. I didn’t expect much from this team. 7-9 wins. We’ll see. I was hoping for a 2-2 start. That’s still possible. :excited:

I get the feeling that if Peters is wearing any other jersey that is a pick 6. That's what he does......until now. The Raiders are allergic to getting turnovers. I wish I could parlay the Raiders having less than two sacks and 0 turnovers every week. That would be a lock almost every week.

Someone would have traded for him. He is a good RB that could make a good team great. He can’t do anything for a bad team.

Trading for a $10mil RB in late August and giving sufficient trade compensation was a tall order. The Raiders would likely need to settle for far less compensation than he is probably worth.

If this isnt the most demoralizing statement ever from an opponent

TJ Watt on the pro-Steelers crowd: “To be able to have a team on a silent count in their own stadium is pretty demoralizing, and it also helps the pass rush so much more and I'm very appreciative for everybody that came out tonight and was loud."

Still laughing at Raiders kicking a FG down 8 with a little over 2 minutes left..
just awful, people can say what they want about Gruden but he would have went for the TD and 2 pt conversion there. This coaching staff has no balls . Worst thing they dont get it but the steelers are now pinned in their own endzone with no kickoff wasting precious time. All they needed was 4 yards for a 1st down as well , why go to the endzone on 3rd down? That play turned into a 20 yard pass instead of picking up 4 yards, crazy . How about an onside kick after the FG ? I have s many questions for this coaching staff

I felt the penalty should have been declined after they made the longer field goal. there was still plenty of time on the clock and the raider defense was doing their job.

getting anything is better than nothing. The Raiders need to rebuild. This season is not looking so good.

The Raiders can change that by winning and gaining fans. Hopefully that starts next season.

Michael Mayer - 3 games, 2 targets, 1 reception, 2 yards.
i believe he's had 2 catches. didn't he get the 2 point conversion?
Best TE in the draft. Either he isn’t very good, hasn’t made the transition to the NFL, or isn’t being used properly. It’s early.
TE is notorious for being tough on rookies. I guess maybe because they have to develop as blockers and pass catchers? I dunno.

Do you have access to his blocking grades?

ETA: 100% sincere question. Curious if he's grading out well as a blocker.

Took a minute to think this through. And naw, it's week three. Jacobs has been back practicing for over a month. OL is at least as good as it was last year. Only change is James Grop.

It's not too early to say this... AOC time.

The crowd issue in Vegas should have been pretty obvious to anyone (except junior). Even if the Raiders somehow become a dominant force, that issue will remain. Vegas is a tourist magnet. Being able to watch your team play is a bonus.

I was on the fence about JMD until this last game. Terrible decision at the end of the game. IIRC a big part of his philosophy is holding players accountable. If he wants to be consistent he should make an apology to the team for that decision.

On the bright side, they are headed towards another top draft choice in a draft that looks to be loaded with QBs.

Wait til next year! 🤣

i think he gets traded in a few weeks if they are out of contention—-let’s see what we have in Zeus

If anyone ever says again "he is a winner" as reasoning to sign a QB I think I may punch them hard in the face.

That’s the narrative we always hear. But Kincaid and LaPorta are heavily involved in their offensive game plans and making plays. The difference between those two and Meyer is they’re playing for better teams and coaches.

I think they know what they have in Zeus, that’s why they probably felt the need to give Jacobs a little more money to come back.

Another difference is that Kincaid and LaPorta are also basically big WR's. They are not asked to block (or shouldn't because they can't.... I haven't seen their games so can't really say). I am thinking that that is a big difference.

That all said.... I don't get it. NE had a history of being able to use the slot WR and the TE effectively in an offense. Renfrow is still not a part of this offense as is Mayer. I can understand a little bit for Mayer but then we have Hooper who is good enough.

Is it the coaching or is it Jimmy G? Watching the game, it looked like Jimmy G looked at Adams and threw it or not based off that. Granted, with the Steelers, he can't stay back there and go through progressions but dang man... I think he might have followed Adams home he was so locked in on him.

Man, I wish I knew what is going on with the offense. You can’t blame every play on one position. The Oline seems to give Jimmy enough time on most pass plays, but it seems like he’s going through all his reads and either not liking what he sees or completely missing his receivers (or just waiting for Adams or Jakobi to get open). And the running game has been nonexistent for 3 weeks in a row. I’d say bring in AOC and see what he can do but if they can’t get the running game going AOC might get killed back there and ruin his growth and confidence.
It’s early, but when Miami can put up 70 points in one game and the Raiders can barely put up 60 points in 3 games, that’s a major concern.

The offense has regressed dramatically over last year. What is different from last year?

New QB.
RB held out.
Other than that, we added to the offense which should be a positive with Meyer and Mayer.

Does the RB holding out make THAT much of a difference? I tend to think not so until further evidence to reverse this position, I am blaming the new QB.

Bring in AOC simply to see if there is anything at all left redeemable by the Josh McDonald's regime. We've seen all we need to see from Jim Grop.

I disagree with this one a bit. Garoppolo is certainly an issue but last year was simply a magical one for Jacobs and the offensive line. He stayed healthy and played out of his mind. He simply isn't that back all the time. He also had 390+ touches last year, that takes a toll on anyone. The offensive line was a big concern going in to last year and they played great but outside of Miller we can't say any of these guys weren't truly much less of a concern going into this year.

I'm in the camp that more than one thing can be wrong with the offense. The line has been terrible in all phases, Jacobs isn't the guy we hoped he was and Jimmy is meh.

The difference is last year Jacobs led the league in rushing and this year has 108 yards in three games and is averaging 2.4 yards per carry. It seems like he has had nowhere to run and been consistently getting hit at or behind the line of scrimmage. I'm not blaming that on the QB. If Carr was playing QB the narrative would probably be "how is Carr supposed to succeed with no running game?"

I see the same Jacobs as last year. Dude is getting ZERO blocking. None. DL are in his face a split second after each hand off.

I don't think this is really a Jacobs issue. You're watching it and there's not much there, teams seem to be stacking the box and are much less afraid of Garropolo than they were of Carr.

Jacobs is 45th in the NFL / 48 in yards before contact with 1.0 yard on average. He's averaging 1.4 yards / after contaact which is around average.
