Las Vegas Raiders thread - ☠ Keep firin' 'em Pete, eventually it'll be you and the real culprit for family Christmas dinner at Allegiant ☠ (17 Viewers)

Time for me to aggressively bid on a new green dot linebacker. I don’t think Devin holds on through Week 17. The firings have commenced and Sneaky Pete has never met a life raft he couldn’t help himself to before the women and children find out about the hole in the hull below the waterline

he’s begun to trim the mizzen

There is only one reason the guy in charge of the offensive line hasn't been fired too.
Saw one play where the announcer said, after Garrett beat the left tackle 1 on 1 and got a sack, that the Raiders got what they deserved if they don’t give the left tackle some help in blocking a player like Garrett.

Embarrassing clown show all around.

Sleeper alert: Chip Kelly fired

I was shocked he got another NFL job, if another team hires him their GM should be fired on the spot.
Kelly's problems were never with the Xs and Os.

He's being scapegoated.
Who is being protected by the firing of Kelly then? Serious question.
I said scapegoated but, maybe protected is also the case.

Carroll scapegoating Kelly to protect his son who should be fired along Kelly if they really were serious about fixing anything this season.

This is first among reasons why Pete lost me, and why he should be fired.
Yeah, even though I was opposed to the hire initially I was vehemently opposed to another one and done. At this point I might be good with 2-9 and done.

BUT I don't want some interim guy, Graham presumably, rallying the troops for another two or three meaningless wins either.

They shld be thinking medium-long term with every decision, coaches and players. Easier said.

Agreed. I'm over Graham too but, it is impressive he has lasted with three different coaching staffs. Maybe I could be convinced there is a reason to keep him around.

But, long term the #1 pick carries so much value. They can use it or trade it for a ton more value. I'd be great with either option.

Raiders are a clown show! Firing Chip Kelly is a complete joke move by washed up over the hill Pete Carroll
His son is safe after his offensive line just allowed 10 sacks by the Browns

Kelly sucks and never should have been there in the first place, Carroll and his has been, washed up, Seattle group of clowns
should not be there either.

They need to dump washed up Carroll, his idiot son, and every single coach a clean sweep
Franchise is being run so poorly, what other multi billion dollar business can be run this poorly
and make money, none. Only in the NFL

It's sad that a franchise like the Raiders can be run this ineptly and be bad year after year like they are

Sorry, guys. I kind of know to a degree how you all feel except for the '70s, '80s, early '90s, and early '00s of winning games and Super Bowl titles now and again. 3 of 'em!

Your owner tries and isn't an awful man. He and the guys with minority shares might get this right. Teams like us (Jets) and the Saints have little to look forward to; just tiny hopes of fleeting moments of competence. Peace.

It would have been cheaper for Markie Dork to call up every college university president in the state of Nevada and offer to donate a few million a year to their school in exchange for "hiring" Brennan Carroll to be their "offensive coordinator".

I feel sorry for the Raider fans that are still shelling out their hard-earned money on the worst team in the league. I dont see it getting better any time soon. Davis wont go through the rebuild process.

My biggest issue with the Carroll experiment is how bad the nepotism has been.

> Before Chip was fired, Geno should have been been benched. I would have rather seen Pickett get a chance.
> Lockett getting playing time over any of the other WRs is a joke to me.
> Jamal Adams experiment hasn't proven to be close to successful
> The gross handling of the OL, is well documented in this in this thread.
> Stone Forsythe...

I get that coaches have 'their' guys. But at some point you need to start making decisions on what you're seeing on the field today vs who you've known for years

re: firing the O Coord and not the O Line coach.

Referring to my post above, it’s the offensive play call (by the O Coord) that decides to not put a blocking TE on the same side as Garrett. That’s not a call the O Line coach would make.

Believe me, I think Carroll Jr should be fired asap as well, but if your offensive scheme and play calling doesn’t account for Garrett on every single play, then your play caller is trash.

So Raider fans should be happy that the team had success over 20 years ago? Interesting take.

They do not give out participation awards in the NFL. Simply trying isn’t enough. There was a good reason Al shut Mork out of the decision-making process. The fans now have 14 years of data to see what Al knew.

Mork does not know how to build a successful franchise so he hires a brand name that is generally past his prime. After a year (or less in some cases) his poor hire becomes evident thru the team’s performance. Rinse and repeat.

Because people around the league know what an impossible job it is to work for Mork, he has to offer complete control of all personnel decisions. This compounds the problem of hiring washed up name brands. It played out when he hired Gruden, McDaniels, and now Carroll.

I think you decided to provide the assumption and logical leap (or tonal misjudgment) to get that out of what I was saying. Saying "at least you aren't the Jets," and I'm not even paraphrasing myself correctly there, is simply a slight joking envy. I used to follow the Raiders and they were one of three teams I cheered for ardently before picking just one team (the cursed Jets) so I know how bad it's been for Raiders fans. It went from the heyday of the seventies in Oakland to Los Angeles and having some really great teams in the early eighties that became a national silver and black lifestyle brand, to then move onto the nineties when Al was clearly already aging, the experience then was that things would be great for a while and then stink the same length of time, and then they were great again in the late nineties and early aughts; but then the coach of that era, Jon Gruden, the guy that embodied what they had become decided to leave or got run out by Al Davis—and it seemed like the maverick and spirited soul of the franchise left the Raiders in some way. They would go on to face him the very next year after he left in the Super Bowl, the ultimate game that turned into a poetically disastrous blowout loss that was memorable not for the game, but was instead marked forever by the center on their offensive line, Barrett Robbins, a man with psychological issues who skipped the game and disappeared in Mexico so that he could drink heavily in an attempt to unburden his mind; but instead of that he wound up transferring that crippling his teammates with worry and false starts with terrible beginnings; and so some irrationalists suggested that the old style of non-traditionalism went with him and never made the trip back, so that even when the media personality machine they called Gruden that printed money and referred him right into came back to the Raiders a decade or so later in a "second time as farce" way, where his handpicked Gruden's Grinder draft picks would do things that got them traded within a week of arriving in Vegas because they decided to spend time on parties and blow-outs, or sounded psychotic while showing everybody their armaments—their "eagles," which is what they called their contraptions that apparently function as tripartitely intricate killing machines—on social media posts; or truly tore it all down and by getting intoxicated and driving a car 140+ MPH on Vegas boulevards until something catches their eye and now there is the sudden screeching of brakes and road-burned rubber, a vehicle that is out of control and getting away from the very first of the draft picks until it winds up lethally embedded into another car; the car of a young woman, or a twenty-one or two year-old girl if "young woman" sounds too old, her having ventured out late at night to take her dog to the park, maybe doing so to catch some night air, or doing her duty to the pup because the dog had to relieve itself; the girl never, ever thinking that the anxious look on the pup's face would be the last one she would ever see before the draft pick, with his horrible judgment now set to be consumed with emotional distance refusing terra firma for his soul's future agony—he, a young man soon to be consumed with guilt and panic, attempts to rescue her from the wreckage, but realizing any endeavoring to save her heroically was futile and would cost him his own life to boot; so our young man sits down with his head in his knees, discovered by witnesses to the scene with his chest heaving between his anguished tears, everybody there now a witness to someone consumed by literal fire as both cars ablaze; and this memory replayed in the in the mind of the boy who now lives in mandated and not optional accommodations that the state insists he stay in without reprieve for years on end—and yeah, the whole Gruden affair was repugnant in a lot of ways, especially to Raiders fans who have grown up some and just wanted to jeezus christmas for once cheer for their football team on Sunday without stories like this, never mind weird NFL saboteurs leaking Gruden's emails full of the modern sins of crassness towards gays and other ethnics and minorities in order to specifically destroy Gruden, not only as a coach, but also as a citizen and man, and do you begin to see why Raiders fans might be paranoid and can be caught looking for bugs in random lamps everywhere on even the best of days?

So no, I'm not saying the past twenty years were okay or that you should abide them in the least. I don't know. That kind of doesn't even cover it.

Someone needs to cut back on their caffeine intake. 😂

Honestly started writing and that came out in one long run-on sentence, so I didn't alter its breathlessness, but I just kept on editing it so that the tenses matched and it conveyed the endlessness of all things weird vis a vis the Raiders no matter where they're setting up shop. I really wasn't saying it was okay to have had the Raiders' past two decades (and I go back to the turn of the century) and I tried to convey that how not okay it's been and how definitely not chill these things are (I still follow the Raiders a bit), and even though I'm cognizant of a lot of things that have gone on, all those events were extraordinarily weird and painful to recap. I didn't even get to Christian Wilkins yet (I was reading those articles with Adam Butler today), so like I said, sorry guys. I was there with you until about 2003 or so. Crazy, wasn't it and hasn't it been?

I agree with the bolded but, the rest really doesn't jibe with reality.

Gruden, I have no idea how, built a playoff caliber team before getting assassinated. Del Rio built a playoff caliber team but, got ousted for Gruden. McDaniels is hardly over the hill and he can clearly coach but he's an ###$$$# and everyone hates him. Pierce is as far from over the hill or a brand name and, he sucked as a coach.

Mark Davis doesn't know how to build a championship caliber team but, he knows that which is why he consistently hires people to turn over football operations to and, he doesn't meddle, at least not until it's time to #### can someone. He's also not cheap, which is good. And I hope he keeps operating this way until he finds the right guy to head the football operations.

I admit and I have said it here that Old Pete would had made this team more interesting and competitive.

But even the Las Vegas Aces would beat this team.
