Like the other Jets fans here, I’m a little disappointed on the compensation but hey, having an offense that’s going to be fun to watch even for 1-2 seasons is probably worth it after the train wreck we’ve witnessed over however long it’s been. Rodgers probably has a bit of a chip on his shoulder as well, so that can only be good news for his motivation.

Of course it does suck the Jets finally have hope but jump into a AFC mix that includes Bills, Phins, Chargers, Chiefs, Bengals, Ravens and a few more on the fringe.
It’s not going to be easy getting a playoff spot but at least they now have a chance and once in, let’s see what happens.

Looking at the final tally of comp they came really close to 2 1st rders - very close to the 2 1st rders it would take for Lam Jax. Id bet a lot that JD checked in with Balt who told him they would match whatever offer was made so dont waste your time.
So out of the realistic choices would you rather have a season or 2 to remember with Rodgers going for it and losing the capital or continue a slow build with mediocre QBs like Carr/Jimmy g but have all the picks......honestly I am up for going for it!

We would have had hope with those guys, but there was no chance of them going into Buffalo, Kansas City, Cincinnati or even Miami and winning in the playoffs. Rodgers may not but he surely can.

Feels like GB won the mini tug of war in that there is no clawing back of a pick if Rodgers is one and done with the Jets and there is a realistic (really probable) chance that they get a 1st next year out of it but all that said it is a price that makes sense given what the Jets are looking at in terms of the talent they have stockpiled.
Rankings current AFC starting quarterbacks remains a ridiculous exercise with all the big names in our conference.
Anyway enjoy Jets fans and hope you aren't frantically ordering a different number if you jumped the gun buying a jersey.

I’m not sure that was even asked for. Why would GB want to wait out Rodgers again next year? Either Woody is an idiot (and let’s face it he is) or that was some BS reporting (which is more likely) because it wasn’t a real option. I did expect it to be tied to how far the team went in the playoffs though.

I know that moving from 15 to 13 is technically "value" that the Packers got, but it just doesn't bother me. At that point in the draft, (especially a draft like this doesn't appear to have a ton of top end talent) beauty is in the eye of the beholder and need comes into play.
My only issue is the conditions of the 2024 pick. Would STRONGLY prefer they be tied to Jets playoff advancement or Rodgers being on the team in 2024. Of course, there's always the chance Rodgers has already privately agreed to do that (not that that means anything. He could always flake)
It is what it is. They're taking a shot and its 100% the right move. Couldn't afford to waste the cheap years for this young core. Gotta go for it and Rodgers was by far their best option.

I think it was lazy reporting as that was part of the Favre comp and the media just took it and ran. This is very different as Rodgers is coming off 2 yr from an MVP season and Favre was retired for months during that deal in August. Im speculating but I think that issue may have been the hold up and A-Rod gave them an assurance that there is a good chance he will be here for more than 1 season - I think hes gonna love NY!

If the Jets make a deep playoff run or god willing a super bowl...its cheap. If they flame out then oh well - I applaud the guts to go for it.

I tend to respect RGIII opinions, as he is a pretty knowledgeable and levelheaded guy.
The concerns I would have for this trade personally are the rather easy-to-reach metric to turn the future second into a future first, which is “Rodgers playing 65% of the snaps.”
My other concern is that he’s just shy of 40 years old, so longevity is not a big factor with this trade.
Having a short window to win a Super Bowl definitely impacts the valuation.
But hey - the Jets got their man.

I will say, Rodgers didn’t look all that good last year (supporting cast stunk) and he can be a real headache. This was a risky move by the Jets.

Definitely significant risk - but when you havent been in a Super Bowl in over 50 yrs and even the playoffs in a decade its time to take a risk....
This move really reminds me of Mark Messier to the Rangers....praying it ends the same way!

I’ll say this - I don’t remember a time when all 4 AFC East teams were interesting / competitive.
Gonna be a lot tougher on BUF & MIA, & NEP might be the worst team in the division, which is just a shocking turnaround.

I am lockstep with TLEF on this one. Couldn't sum up my thoughts any differently. The move from 13th to 15th doesn't bother me in the least. Nor does the second-round pick. The only thing that bothers me is the lack of assurance they get he'll play two years at least. If he plays two and plays more than 65 percent of the snaps, then that next year's first is worth it. I was really unhappy when I heard that, but the Packers had the Jets over a barrel.

Not too worried if they get close and wind up surrendering a late-ish 1st - they’ve whiffed many a time on their 1st rounders. The big risk is that it all goes south and they have a crappy year AND surrender a premium 1st round pick. Cautiously optimistic it won’t happen but we Jets fans have to brace ourselves.

The other quiet item not being discussed is how this is the Jets grand plan to rehab Zach Wilson. ZW absolutely loves Rodgers and supposedly Rodgers likes the kid. They are praying that bringing in Rodgers will help Wilson develop and possibly still be their QB of the future. I dont believe it but crazier things have happened and I know this was part of why they really wanted this deal. They get to save face for a time on one of the worst picks of all time. The kid definitely has an arm so maybe being an apprentice for one the greats can reset the kids career - Again I doubt it but I really think this was a factor

If we're in the playoff tournament it will have been worth it, because then that pick is late 20s and teams whiff those first-round picks all the time. That first-round pick is huge, but it really doesn't faze me if the case is that

Wilson isn't long for the Jets. That's my take on the situation. He'll be in his fifth year before you know it. They're likely not picking up that option.

They wont have to - no team is giving him a big contract. Im calling it now - Rodgers makes a 2 yr run and they sign ZW to a cheap contract extension and let him compete for the job.

Well if you're going to make a move like that, at least you surround the guy with as much of an opportunity to be successful. Yes, Rodgers had a down 2022 compared to previous years, but he also has Hackett back calling the plays and the system he used for years.
Doing some chart math (and equating the 1st/2nd next year to 2nd/3rd in this year's value as most do)...... the picks wash out to Aaron Rodgers for the 2023 16th pick if next year's pick is a 1st, or Aaron Rodgers for the 2023 23rd pick if next year's pick is a 2nd. If you don't want to slide value, it's Aaron for the 2023 6th pick on the high end and 2023 16th pick on the low end by not dropping the value chart a round for the 2024 pick. (did the value averaging out to be pick position 16/17 just for giggles for the 2024 pick).

No, but in a one-game scenario, beating them with Rodgers is almost infinitely better than beating them with Wilson (again, because we did beat them with Wilson last year).
I think the Jets are instant competitors in the lottery draw that will be the AFC Playoffs.

I was going to try and acquire him, but then the news broke of Rodgers to the Jets. This was months ago, so this just cements the fact that I won't have him. I've spent two months hesitating to send an offer because of the draft and that I have limited picks to play with, but yeah, what you're saying is very true.

This was what the deal was rumored to be the whole time only the conditional second was said to be based on a playoff win. Nothing has really changed except the kicker is now basically a lock.
