We really have no choice but to rally behind Zach and maybe somehow see the possible good.

He was better than we've ever seen him last night. No doubt about that. Was it great and inspring? No. Can it get better, especially now that he's certainly the #1 again and will get #1 reps after a training camp working with Rodgers and hopefully still having him around? It almost has to. That has to be the hope anyway.

I'm a fan. I still have hope. I always do. I paid for the sunday ticket mainly to watch and root for the Jets here in NC, so that's what I'm gonna do.

Wilson came in cold and didn't really have any 1st team reps this year. I think he'll still be a bottom tier QB, but not an all-time disaster. Better than signing someone like Kaepernick who's making noise about it.

I love how everyone thinks teams are just going to trade their back up QBs after one week to a team that just showed why you need a backup QB.

This isn’t fantasy football - teams don’t trade depth at important positions just because.
Exactly- just posted something similar in the other Jets thread. There have been exactly 5 in-season QB trades in the last 12 years, and only two of them were of any substance.

Admittedly it's from my couch, but I see no chance Wilson gets the Jets where they want go. He's not on the same level as Dilfer and Flacco, who led teams with incredible defenses. He did not look good last night. Teams will stack the box and dare them to throw. He has incredibly happy feet and doesn't look like he has the capacity to recognize coverages, or look off defenders. Brissett would be a huge upgrade in my opinion.

" In 2022, Wilson became the first quarterback since Ed Brown in 1957-58 to record the worst passer rating in the NFL in back-to-back seasons."
Devil’s advocate here (with no skin in the game), but he got thrown into a very difficult spot last night. And he managed the game in the second half against a great d. There is incremental room for improvement here, which is likely
Good enough to get in the playoffs with this d.

The problem is that Dallas is on tap this weekend which is likely to be a bloodbath. The media (and fans) will be coming for his head. Thing is, though, I’m not sure Rodgers would have survived it. But they will be 1-1. No choice but to roll with this guy and see how he develops with 16 games left. Can’t bring a guy in off the street. Those dudes couldn’t land a backup job in the off-season and have no reps with any team, never mind with this group.

Best option is to find a trade and try and go .500 through Halloween and see if the new guy can get up to speed in the meantime.

I don't think everyone thinks that. I think people are throwing out ideas. And certainly not "just because". Most players are tradeable for some price in return. The value just has to make sense for both sides.

Trades can happen. And they're fun discussion sometimes. That's sort of what we do on a forum. But the obvious answer is sticking with Zach Wilson as they've said they'll do.

Ok - why so literal? Do you really think I mean “everyone”, as in every single person, or “everyone that actually posted such”.

Like “everyone” I just expressed my opinion as well and I stand by what I said.

Can you list all the in-season QB trades in the last 10-15 years?

It will be a really short list and most of the QBs will be irrelevant. So what I said is reality - and I’m clearly not stopping anyone from discussing trades if they like. But I can also surely reply generally to them that I just don’t see it happening and often on this board people conflate fantasy football with real football. This is a real football thread so the discussion is geared towards that.

For ease of reference

From zamboni

For those looking for a trade, here are the last 5 in-season QB trades across the entire NFL:
Oct 2021: Joe Flacco from PHI to NYJ

Sept 2019: Josh Dobbs from PIT to JAX

Oct 2017: Jimmy G to SF from NE

Sept 2015: Matt Cassel to DAL from BUF

Oct 2011: Carson Palmer from CIN to OAK

So 5 in the last 12 years, and only Palmer and Jimmy G were really of any substance at the time. While it’s not inconceivable, QB trades are just infrequent at this stage of the season and in today’s landscape. There’s a reason why teams just don’t trade their backups.

Palmer was a much different situation since he "retired" to force a trade out of Cincinnati.

So yes, a trade could happen - but it's pretty rare and NFL teams really can’t afford to give away QB depth.

The Jets need to find a decent QB because Wilson tends to hold onto the ball for so long - it's only a matter of time before he too gets injured.

Listening to all the talk radio and articles with these trades are ridiculous. I just dont see it happening. Saleh said himself while they definitely need to bring in a backup - to think they will obtain a potential starting QB at this point is extremely unlikely.

We've all seen Zach and know how hes been - of course its not the preferred way to go but he is literally the only option at this point. Need to pray he learned more than he showed last game as it was a tough spot.

I think they could still sign a guy like Wentz “just in case” but still start Zach until he plays himself off the field.

Can totally see Wentz being brought in to back up, and I'd be fine with that. As frenetic as Wentz is himself, at least he's had some success in the past.

He definitely is the most talented and is a FA so no draft capital. However....

The fact that he is not even a backup somewhere is perplexing - think I read he is difficult which definitely wouldnt fly with this regime. Also I wonder if they would be nervous bringing in someone established like that in fear of a similar Mike White revolution like last year lol. Just on paper Wentz is a no brainer and if Zach melts down just by bringing in experienced competition then hes cooked anyway

Yeah, by most accounts Wentz is a prima donna me-first guy, but I think Saleh could whip him into shape. Seems like a cheap backup option, but have to trust that team brass has the pulse on the situation.

In theory are the Jets now able to trade away their first round pick or does it not officially revert until the season ends, just in case Rodgers came back somehow?
im pretty sure they wont be able to trade it until 65% of the season is over and the protection officially met.

I don't think there's any sort of deadline before "end of season". In theory......you could have 65% of your snaps in 1 game. Obviously that's not going to happen but I think they're stuck until the year is over unless they work out a separate deal with green bay.

I’d say as soon as the official “out for the season” ruling comes in the Jets officially own that 1st.

Full disclosure...turned the game off at the first Zach INT (apparently he threw two more. Didn't see how bad they were)

This game was over the moment Rodgers went down. There was no way they were going to be able to build an offense that Zach could efficiently run against this Cowboy D on a short week (or any week). So they basically needed everything on the field to break perfectly (like it did last week with Allen's 4 TO's) in order to be competitive. Obviously that didn't happen.

The O-line was atrocious in both phases. Parsons wrecked the game, which was not all surprising. Duane Brown, who fought like a warrior last year, looks absolutely washed right now. Just no mobility, getting beat on 1 move, can't anchor. He's horrendous. IMO, you give him 1 more week and then you have to start shuffling people around. Whether that's Becton or AVT to LT....gotta try something if the old man can't get it done.

Cook also looks washed. No burst, which was all he never had. And the fumble basically ended any hope. Looks like an absolute waste of Money....If he isn't producing by the bye week, I absolutely say "thanks for trying", send him packing and start giving Abanikanda his reps.

Hall looked great on Monday night and today was never given a chance. Guess they realized the game was a lost cause and didn't want to expose him.

Great play on the TD by Garrett. Could have had another one. Just saw he limped off late. Fingers crossed there.

Nothing out the 2 big WR acquisitions. Lazzard is a JAG and always was. Nothing without Rodgers. That contract looks bad. And for all the talk about them unlocking Hardman's potential he cant even get on the field.

Pass rush did nothing today. Had a few chances to get Dak down early and lost contain. The first down run on 3rd and 6 when they got 3 guys in the backfield was a killer.

Sauce was bad by Sauce standards on monday night. He was bad by all standards in the first half this afternoon. Can't drop that INT if you're allegedly the best corner in the NFL. He pulls that in and takes it back and its a totally different game.

Reed being thrown at A LOT right now....because nobody wants to throw at Sauce in man. Playing ok, I guess, but you do wonder if last year is repeatable.

On Zach.......the bar was low. It was basically "dont make a play that loses us the game". And while he obviously threw 3 late picks, that game was already over. A few nice throws under pressure but just not productive enough. And the fact that Dallas KNOWS he can't hurt them consistently is what allows them to just throw the kitchen sink at us all night.

Hackett better figure out a way for this group to move the ball. Seems like his plan was basically "give A-Rod the offense we had 2 years ago and let him audible everything at the LOS". Seems like he's just as dumb and goofy as he looked on Hard Knocks and appeared as a HC last year.

Obviously you can't judge a rookie class in 1 season, let alone 2 games. But right now it sure looks like Douglas spent a bunch of picks on long-term luxury items and is currently getting no production. McDonald was a healthy scratch (was Carl Lawson's named called once today? Can we just acknowledge his achilles tear sapped his athleticism and move on, please?) . Tippman hasn't played yet (when you take an interior lineman from Wisconsin in the 2nd round, he should be ready to play). Looks like Carter Warren (who everybody knew was a project) is out for the year and Abanikanda has been a healthy scratch twice.

So yeah.....not good.

Per twitter, the jets ran to the right side two times all game, got 6 yards each time and never went to that well again.

I might be the chairman of the "Hackett is an idiot" committee pretty soon. And the sad thing is that if he is, you know we're stuck with him as long as Rodgers wants to play

And with Rodgers not there, time to get rid of his BFF Cobb. Can take Cook with him.

Michael Nania is already going full scorched earth against Hackett on twitter.

Showing plays where Uzamah (who is also a train wreck blocking) is split out wide in a spread formation (While Hardman sits on the bench)

Breece Hall is complaining as well. Mentioned his 4 carries in the post-game and now posting on twitter.

Things going off the rails early.

Yesterday felt very.... familiar. Cannot sustain drives. Lots of 3 and outs. No chunk plays save for the TD, which makes it more lightning in a bottle than anything. D kept them in the game by making them settle for field goals for awhile, but gave up way too many 3rd down conversions. Oline is just a wreck.

Sauce... oh Sauce... you had a chance to completely flip the game. Two games in, and he may have let his DROY go to his head a little. He's not the same guy right now.

Definitely could have been a game changer - saw daylight and just went through his hands. Not the first top DB to do that though, for sure. In any event, while that was an enormous play, it's hardly his fault that it turned out the rest of the way that it did.

Never felt like this was a winnable game. Im more interested in next week at home vs the Pats - that will be the litmus test and the coaches know it.

Still some thoughts

QB - Zach was Zach again but he did show some flashes that he hasnt in past - nice pass the Wilson on the TD pass. Ran the ball a few times. The coaches need to find a way to use this kids legs more. Once they were down you knew the picks were coming. He wasnt good but also wasnt the reason they lost.

OL - This is why they lost. I still have no idea how JD could go all in on a 39 yr old QB and leave the OL almost as is. Thats borderline malpractice and if Rodgers didnt get hurt in game 1 he most likely would at some point. Becton is bad and a penalty machine. Brown is almost 40 and showed it. #1 priority in the offseason.

RBs - Cook looked washed - they kept Breece on ice knowing it was a lost cause - I know hes pissed but it was the right move IMO. Agreed with above - if Cook doesnt look better by week 4-5 id rather his carries go to Izzy who looked explosive. Better days for Breece

TEs - Conklin is decent - why isnt Ruckert getting more action? The kid can block and would help that OL

WR - There is Wilson and a lot of JAGS. JSN would have been so nice

Def - big step back - Sauce miss was a game changer. Better days ahead as well

Coach/GM - Bad coaching today - loved the fake punt but zero adjustments on the OL getting blasted. JD has to be accountable for the disaster OL - and even worse his 1st and 2d rd picks on the bench? That just cant happen.

Huge game on Sun - Belichick facing 0-3 and loves to abuse Zach. KC and Philly coming up - gotta find a way to win this one.

Deja Vu all over again. This is a rough team to root for, same as it ever was. Next Sunday 1pm, the season is probably on the line, ridiculous to say. As great as acquiring Rodgers seemed to have been, it was malpractice to run it back with Zach given the age of Rodgers, they needed to just offload Zach for 10cents on the dollar, sign Brisset and move on. Here we go again...

This team feels about 3 weeks away from a mutiny. Assume they will be 2-4 going into their bye, with a defense that is completely gassed and turning on the offense. The time of possession was 42 minutes to 17, in favor of the Cowboys. No matter how good a defense is that is unsustainable. Realize Dallas is a top D, but the "run it and just hope the qb doesn't make a mistake" did not even come close to working. When everyone knows you are terrified to throw the ball you end up doing what the Jets did yesterday, running for 64 yards (with the qb having 36 of them). Zach is incapable of leading the offense. I don't see how they can keep the team together and still put him out there.

As much as people love Douglas, he's now in his 5th year and still hasn't put out a team that has been to the playoffs.

Considering how poorly Brown played last week (and his age obviously makes it distinctly possible that he's just washed).....the injury is probably a blessing in disguise.

Looks like they're moving Becton across to LT, AVT to RT and getting Tippman in at RG. I like it. Its clearly the highest upside combination given what they have at their disposal. I know they see AVT as an all-pro caliber guard (and moving him around hasn't helped his development...neither did the injury) but its all-hands on deck at this point. Hopefully this group works.

McDonald active again this week. Hopefully he gets an opportunity to make a play.

Basically a must-win game if they want any hope of staying in the mix. Zach would have beaten these guys last year were it not for that disgraceful roughing ball bringing back the pick 6. Gotta get it done.

Just an absolute disgrace. Only gave up 1 TD (on a busted coverage with Q Williams off the field) and still can't win the game.

Romo was screaming all afternoon for them to do SOMETHING other than running on first down. They finally do. They move the ball.....9 punts later.

Signed Hardman....wont even play him.
Cobb was only signed because he's Rodgers' buddy. He can't catch (made 1...finally) or block and his best contribution was the flop on the PI call in the end zone. And then he trips and drops the hail mary.

Get an absolute gift getting the ball back after the safety and the incredible free kick. 3 incompletions and a check down to a TE behind the LOS on 4th and 10.

Every other team in the NFL can scheme someone open a few times a game for a cake walk 7-8 yard pickup. Hackett and Wilson can't do it.

Try SOMETHING else. Give the ball to Hardman. Give the ball to Gipson on a gadget play. Activate Brownlee and throw him some jump balls. Activate Abanikanda and give him the touches you're currently giving to the corpse of Dalvin Cook.

Just disgusting. As usual, Wilson and bad coaching make it look like we're playing a diffferent sport than pretty much every team in the NFL (one in which its impossible to score more than 15 points)

It's obvious they have NO confidence in Wilson. He averaged 4.4 yards per pass. Teams are loading the box against the run. This team is useless for fantasy, and IRL.

And yet after the game Selah indicated that they were going to keep going with Wilson. If I were Joe Douglas I’d fire Selah if he starts him next week. And if Douglas didn’t, if I were Woody Johnson I’d fire them both.

The Jets have a good enough defense to be competitive. To keep going with Wilson just tells the rest of the team that you’re giving up and don’t give a crap about them or their season.

I predicted team mutiny in 3 weeks. It's already started with Michael Robinson and Garret Wilson screaming at their offensive coaches on the sideline. It's not getting any better next week against KC.

Season is over after 3 games, I wish I could say this was the earliest, but it actually lasted longer than usual.

To subjugate Jet fans to another season of Zach Wilson, is cruel and unusual punishment.

Really no reason to watch until a QB change, and nothing is on the horizon, it's hard to believe Joe D is going to die on this ZW hill, how on earth did he not sign a capable backup with a 39-year-old QB at the helm? They are actually in this Caleb/Maye hunt... we are very close to clean house time.

This annoys the hell out of me. Cobb is so washed - is the coaching staff so afraid of Rodgers that they have to play his buddy even when he's out?

And as much as Zach stinks - I do not understand how they do not throw deep to Wilson at least twice a game and let him go get it. The defenses are just stacking the box so at the very least it keeps the defense honest. If the ball is picked off, who cares? They can't move the ball anyway.

At this point the season is over - I don't even see them beating a terrible Broncos team in Denver so 1-5 is on the horizon (with Chiefs and Eagles coming up). I do not want to watch Zach anymore, but it's not like anyone they bring in at this point is taking them to the playoffs so maybe we get a high pick and try again at QB.

Im at a loss for words - how a season Ive been looking forward to for months implodes and they are done before the end of September.

Who to blame?

Obviously the loss of Rodgers was crazy and unforeseen but how did he go in with literally no plan. He knew Zach stunk and I get he wanted Rodgers to hopefully salvage Zach but then he puts out an awful OL in. front of. 39 yr old QB? Terrible - Add in the stuborness to not get a real backup the day after Rodgers goes down is mindboggling. They lost 2 weeks where a Wentz or Ryan could be up to speed and save the season. They have the money and cap room - I dont understand

Saleh having to go out there at week 3 and be laughed at re the Wilson situation is awful to - throw in the awful coaching and his star has seriously faded as well.

At this point I say let the bottom fall out - its too late to save the season. Go 1 win and get the best QB in the draft - have him sit behind Rodgers for one year and then reset. I think JD and Saleh get a pass but Im not sure I trust them to draft and develop a new QB.

What an awful situation - worse than same ol jets

Sticking with Wilson would be a slap in the face for all Jets fans. Even if you're not a Jets fan, it's painful watching that guy flail around. They're basically saying to season ticket holders - "you paid already so we don't care if you like it or not".
