2024-2025 NCAA College Basketball Thread - Huskers take the Crown! Also Florida did something. (2 Viewers)

111 out of 111 brackets in the bracket matrix had WVU in the tournament. It's the first time ever a unanimous team was left out. I believe it's also the first time ever a team on more than 90% of the brackets was left out. Total screw job so they could stroke the SEC's ego and the AD of UNC could get his team in.

Someone tell me why UNC deserved to be in the tourney?

Texas and Xavier were in on 50 or less.

It's hard to not believe the conspiracy theory about the NCAA hating WVU after something like this. Our baseball team got screwed a couple of years ago in a similar manner (I believe at the time was the highest rated RPI team to ever be left out).

Gonzaga is the most dangerous 8 seed ever.
WVU beat them

All of Gonzaga's losses are by 8 points or less, including 3 in OT. The knock on them is that they cant close out games this year which is a fair assessment, but they have been a different looking team over the last month, playing more up to their predictive metrics.

8/9 is a fair seed using their resume, but it's not if you bring metrics into the equation.

While I do think at the end of the day WVU did itself no favors losing to Colorado in the 1st round of the b12 tourney. The optics of UNC chairman in his Carolina blue tie telling the world that UNC was the last team in is disgusting

How about San Diego State: https://bballnet.com/teams/san-diego-state

Quad 1 Record: 3-6
W 71-53 Neutral (38) 21 Creighton
W 73-70* Neutral (3) 6 Houston
W 76-68 Away (44) Boise St.

More than any other team this one baffles me the most.

The same two selection committee jokers are on espn now defending UNC. The guy actually asked them the hard question on how they got in with 1 Q1 win and the guy basically said "Well yeah but have you seen their Q2 wins?" What a joke.

WVU should've been in over UNC, but George Mason was better than both of them.

Think the NCAA needs some geography lessons. First round sites in the South: Lexington, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Denver. None of these were Confederate States.
Objective is to minimize travel for the top seeds with the 4 seed getting lowest priority. Auburn- Lexington, Iowa St- Milwaukee, Mich St- Cleveland, Texas A&M- Denver. That said, as I wrote above, no clue why they put the #1 overall seed against Louisville.

Objective should be to minimize travel for the kids that are there for class and not worry about the guys getting huge NIL having to fly an extra hour.

If I was Houston, I would be cursing my luck to have to face the Zags early.

Looking over bracket now.

Not that they need help, but Duke got a damn good draw. Oregon and Arizona both over seeded. I'd take BYU over either. I really like a healthy Bama but they simply aren't.

Side tracking the men’s conversation for one women’s tourney blip. On the heels of Caitlyn Clark bringing the sort of popularity she did to women’s college basketball last year, everyone on the selection committee should be immediately relieved of duties for putting Juju Watkins and Paige Bueckers in the same region this year. How GD short-sighted and oblivious do you have to be to put the two biggest female stars against each other in the Elite Eight? Hilariously bad business for a sport that needs to consider these things.

Remember that time Duke got a bad draw? Yea, me neither ...

Commissioner of the Selection Committee from UNC, Vice Chair Keith Gill ... see if you can guess where he went to college

One possible explanation is it makes a meeting between the two more likely to happen. If they made UConn a 1 seed or put them as a 2 in a different bracket there’s a decent chance one team doesn’t make the final four.

Bubba the UNC goldfish receives over 100k in bonus if UNC makes it to the tourney. More and more depending how far they go.

Oh, and who did UNC get matched up with in their play-in? The MOST undeserving team in the field, SDSU.

An Athletic writer picked SDSU over Ole Miss as his most likely first round upset at 43.9 percent. His sixth most likely was UNC over Ole Miss at 32 percent.

There is no explanation, and if that’s the explanation then they should all be fired. Nobody would ever remember “that time Juju and Paige battled in the Elite Eight.” They may, however, remember if it happens in the Final Four. Or even worse, a National Championship game.

It’s simply unexplainable and lacking any semblance of common sense whatsoever.

While UNC may not be deserving of a spot, they got a good draw and think they could surprise. Ole Miss is the worst 6 seed and Iowa State as a 3 is a winnable matchup.

UNC has the predictive metrics of a 9 seed, and if you only look at the last month they have the metrics of a typical 5 seed.

Which predictive metric? NET? Is that the metric we want to use? Let me know which metric we are using for the field.
RE UNC - thats the biggest BS part of it. Them making it to the s16 is an absolute traveshamockery because they did noting throughout the year to earn their spot, regardless of what they did with it. Literally rewarding the undeserving.

Today was the day that I learned Saul was the traveshamockery guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9-huLRWFRQ

Efficiency is the metric I use when looking at who is over/under seeded. Basically kenpom/Torvik rank.

UNC is about 33-35 in efficiency overall which suggests about a 9 seed.

Over the last month, they are 18th, which suggests a 5 seed.

This has nothing to do with them deserving to be there at all. I agree they dont have the resume. But now that they ARE in, I am looking to see how they might fare and it seems like of late, they have been playing a lot better.

And now they will also have a chip on their shoulder.

The most overseeded teams are Memphis and Michigan.

Memphis is hilarious. They have the predictive metrics of a typical 10-12 seed. And if you look at their play over the last month it gets worse. 14-16 seed range.

Michigan, outside of their conference tourney win has also underachieved of late. Over the last month, they have the efficiency of a 10-11 seed. A lot of people state their conference tourney win as a reason for predicting them to do do well in the tournament, but I'm pretty sure this was debunked a while back as a reliable predictor of tournament success.

Glad to see you care so much.

Seeding the top 5-6 teams was an impossible task. I don't agree with how they did it, but all the top teams beat up on each other, so it's hard. Hell, Notre Dame beat 3 of the top 5 seeds, and they are a #3 seed.

I figured UConn and Texas would be in the same bracket, as they seemed like the most likely 4 and 5 seeds.

Selection committee apparently made USC the last #1 seed instead of Texas. I don't agree, but I get it. As @CletiusMaximus said, it all but ensures a Juju vs Paige matchup, which is good.

I don't agree, but it was a tough call, and I think falls within the range of common sense.
