They are so wildly different players. That is a bonkers comparison as they stylistically and skill wise nothing alike. While Brown is a very good defender, Smart was one of the better perimeter defenders of the post-00s basketball. Offensively, Brown is incredibly talented while Smart might have topped out as acceptable (like below average but good enough that you weren't worried about him on the court because he defense was so good) toward the end of his Boston-stay, but much of his career he has been one of the worst offensive guards in basketball.

This is the same Brown that just 7 months ago averaged 24/6/3 on .591 TS% while winning the Finals MVP (as debatable as that may have been). Brown was VERY arguably the best player that Boston had in the playoffs last year - I'd say it was nearly a 3-way tie between Tatum/Brown/White. Lowkey, the biggest difference between last year's Celtics an this years is White being a good rather than great player, not Brown.

Sure glad Portland drafted a super athletic guard who can't shoot instead of Amen.

I still really like Scoot. Obviously not as much as much as Amen who has the upside to be amongst the best in the game with what he brings on D. I think they've just got to go through the lumps with Scoot being 20 years old. He's a absolutely shown high upside flashes.

Portland is just a mess with what they're doing. Grant and Ayton are awful. Blazers have found out the same thing the Suns did....Ayton has no motor. Way too soft way too often. Makes zero difference on either end.

After the deadline, whether they're able to deal Grant/Ayton/Simons or not......Play Scoot. Play Sharpe. Play Clingan. You already know what you have with Grant/Ayton....not much. Still like pieces Blazers have...just let them play and go through their growing pains now. Give the 2nd half to see if Scoot can run the show. Particularly when they're looking at a top 10 pick with a bunch of very good looking guards in that window

Scott is definitely playing better of late; his shot is starting to fall.

Simons and Grant should be traded, but their contracts are terrible and the return isn't going to be palatable.

Now that the Blazers have started to win, they've played themselves out of the running for Flagg et al. Not sure that's the direction this team should be going but I think if you want the young core to improve, winning is the best formula for that.

I expect some vets to go at the deadline, the return will be distasteful and soon enough, some of their young studs will come down with mysterious injuries that keep them out of games after the ASB.

You follow basketball enough to understand that isn't how salaries in the league work.

This isn't graded on a curve where Jokic, SGA and a couple other guys get A's and you work your way down. If you are an All NBA caliber player or a young player with that potential then you get a max deal.

Timing is also a big part of these deals.

Just on the court/field probably not. If you add in off the field stuff, then the Clippers come to mind. They are competitive now, but they haven't won anything and the whole Donald Sterling era is pretty bad.

I think the Browns, Wizards, and Hornets are in a tier all alone. (I don't follow hockey at all so maybe missed some) All these other teams have been to conference finals and/or have had hall of famers in the last 40 years. I know those three teams I listed at the top haven't been to any conference title games and I don't think they had any hall of farmers.
