2024-25 NBA Thread: Thunder starting to question having 140 pound guy playing in post in Finals (22 Viewers)

"I believe that defense wins championships," Mavs general manager Nico Harrison told ESPN's Dave McMenamin regarding his motivation to trade Doncic for Davis. "I believe that getting an All-Defensive center and an All-NBA player with a defensive mindset gives us a better chance. We're built to win now and in the future."

😂

This is insane.

Also the Wolves didnt' have Ant or Randle or DDV and Naz Reid got hurt mid game. But good one these teams for making sure nobody gives a **** about that game now.

AD doesn’t want to play Center though…

Makes so little sense it gets the mind wandering. Like did Luka do some off the court stuff that Dallas thinks might be coming to light?

That's totally baseless speculation but I'm grasping for straws. It's one thing to trade Luka but for this return and do it so covertly without shopping him to the highest bidder? It just feels wrong, and rushed and it makes me wonder what we don't know....yet.

You don’t ever trade a Luka. No one would even dare to ask his availability. He is a generational player. Then to receive a player that is 7 years older and someone that gets hurt a lot is shocking. Seriously has anyone been more shocked by a trade than this?

No.

Let me put it this way.

I found out about the trade because I went to search something on X and saw "Hacked" was trending. Clicked on it to find out why and it was everyone saying Shams had been hacked. That's how shocking this trade is for people to digest and it's not doing down easier with time.

Wow. I wonder if there was friction between luka and the mavs behind the scenes. Luka is legit one of the faces of the NBA—and is big time box office both domestically and internationally. Davis is an elite talent, but he doesn’t command the box office and value to a franchise that Luka does. Seems to me that this trade hurts the franchise value of the Mavs—which is why I don’t quite understand it. They went from being a team with very strong international appeal to virtually none now.

My son texted me about the trade and my first thought was "why does Dallas want to lose money?"

Nicely put. I was thinking the same thing. I followed the Mavs not because I’m a fan of Dallas, but due to Luka.

This seems insane. I told my 16 yo son and his reply was “omg, what the **** is going on? Is this collusion? The Mavs aren’t that dumb, are they?”

If this is real, there had to be going on behind the scenes between Luka and the Mavs.

Also, someone might need to perform a welfare check on @Instinctive
WTF is going on. This is absolutely insane. I dont even have more words.
Sorry GB

That said, this would be the perfect time to admit Luka acts like a whiney ***** on the court a lot :-)
Apparently a big motivator here is that he's fat all the time. Idk I need to not be on the internet but addicts gonna addict i guess.

Nico Harrison’s Wikipedia page is pretty funny right now.

From Wiki:

Nico Tyrone Harrison (born December 28, 1972) is an American professional basketball executive in the National Basketball Association (NBA), who is currently widely regarded as the worst general manager in the entire NBA. Harrison famously traded Luka Doncic for a 15 year old.

Note that it has been edited to a more normal bio since……but my son and I both got screenshots of it lol

Also from wiki:

“On June 28, 2021, Harrison was appointed as the general manager and president of basketball operations for the Dallas Mavericks, succeeding Donnie Nelson. This appointment coincided with the hiring of Jason Kidd as the head coach. Harrison has since gone on to have the worst tenure of any GM in the NBA. The Mavericks will fire him before the end of the year.”

Damn. As a Pistons fan - why not give us a chance?
I'm a 76'er fan and one of my first reactions was "why did Morey not get on this with Embid" and then I remembered they can't trade him until next year.

But to your point, one of the most amazing mind blowing things about this trade is Luka was not shopped. People can go on and on about Luka being fat, tension, contract issues, etc, etc. He still should have been considered untouchable but if not you got to shop him, not target Anthony Davis.

He may legit need some kind of protective detail.

I think they were just so tired of losing to the Nuggets that they decided to try to recruit Joker’s best friend to go easy on them

The whole team has been set up to revolve around Luka and Kyrie. I mean they made the finals freaking last year!
