2024-25 NBA Thread: for the second time, somebody in Dallas hits low percentage shot that leads to a generation of conspiracy theories (22 Viewers)

Heat have scored 126 on the Lakers and there is 4 minutes left.

Man the NBA is such hot garbage. No wonder I have not watched most of the league in the last 4 years. I have continued to follow my Heat but that’s getting harder and harder.

Dumpster fire of a league. Enjoy it guys…..I left a while ago.

How can you guys enjoy this crap anymore?

Can’t wait till March is here so we can watch some real drama in the college game.
You are upset that they are scoring so much?

Just pop in your VHS tape of a Knicks/Pacers game from the mid 90's and I'm sure you'll be in heaven.

I've seen a bunch of 50-42 NCAA games that are faaaarrrrrr more brutal to watch than a throw away mid-season NBA game. Comparing a random mid-season NBA game to an NCAA tournament game is pretty disingenuous, no?
Yeah you are probably right. I just can’t believe how bad defense has become in the league in general.

The defense in the league is better, way better than it ever was. Like not even close. It’s just that the offenses also dwarf offenses of yesteryear

Here is where I would use the laugh reaction to laugh at someone, not the joke they made LOL
Whatever turns you on man.

The league is a shadow of the game I used to love. Been watching the NBA since 1978.

These last 5-6 years or so has really lost me.

It sucks.
That's ok. Nobody asked you to come post here though. Not sure what joy anyone gets from ****ting on something in a group where they obviously like it.

I'm not running around talking about how dumb it is to think I'm still ten years old and try to make the perfect game setting sliders for NHL or MLB video games or anything, ya know?
Oh man piss off…..now yer being a doosh.

I made an observation on a game I tried to watch and how quickly it was…..unwatchable because of just how bad defense has become in the NBA.
Sorry, that's such a poor understanding of the game I didn't see it was the point.

Defense is objectively far better than it ever has been. So is offense. Players at every position and every spot on the roster are remarkably more skilled than they ever have been.

FWIW, I say this as someone who has coached a D1 school and worked for an NBA team. You're flat out wrong. Scoring is up, defense is not down. Not the same thing.

I mean you don’t have to like the nba of course but the college game is god awful propped up by a tremendously awesome two week tournament.

College basketball now is the worst of any major or college ‘big’ sport.
The excitement of March Madness is unreal….I do agree the quality of the play is nothing like the NBA….but it’s wild.

Look there are some amazing players in the NBA….but the game is almost unwatchable in the regular season now…..and it simply has lost all its luster for me.

If you still love it god bless you. But this is not the same league at all compared to the Magic/Bird and Jordan Era’s which were simply amazing. I even loved the 2000’s as well.

But since 2018 and beyond it went in a direction I don’t connect with anymore.
The lakers mailed it in tonight but on the whole I think defense in the league is top shelf. And the talent has never been better overall. Idk I love it. I do wish the game was less reliant on 3s, I would like to see them move the lines back so we get more midrange game.

I guess you only watch Heat games? If you want amazing defense tune into OKC, ORL or HOU on any given night. Really entertaining to see these young squads tear up opposing offenses.

For anyone in the Philly area, tickets for the Pacers-Sixers game on Friday the 13th are going for as low as $9 on ticketmaster. Last night I saw them as low as $5. This is the game that just got scheduled to fill in the blank in the schedule created by the first round tournament knockout games. So it seems like season ticket holders are just dumping their tickets on the market all at once. I assume tickets to the other equivalent games may be similarly cheap.

Pretty much I only watch the Heat......I will check out those others.

Lakers really struggle without their defensive anchor Bronny.
I'm legitimately not sure he could be much worse than Gabe Vincent has been this season. I think there is a reasonably argument to be made that Vincent has been the worst rotation player in the NBA this year. Almost certainly the worst of any team with real playoff hopes.

As a Nets fan who was looking fwd to adding a top 3 pick this year Im stunned to see they are outside the lottery and on pace for a better season than when they had Bridges. I gotta give credit to the new coach who is squeezing career years out of a lot of the vets. Im thinking Marks takes advantage of the max value and deals a few of these soon to get back into the top half of the lotto by the 2d half but what a shocking season so far.

I'm guessing December 15th (when newly signed players can be traded) to Christmas could be a very busy week and a half for the Nets. Otherwise, I see a lot of lingering injuries on the horizon for Johnson, Schroder, et al.

Yeah, I understand the sentiment with the bold but unfortunately, with the current rules, mathematically teams should really just be shooting 3s and shots around the rim. It's probably coaching malpractice to coach your players to do differently. So, such is the league until there's a rule change.

You sound like my grandpa (RIP).

As has been pointed out, defense is objectively better now by any metric.

i bet your grandpa was a brohan wozmaster take that to the bank
Grew up in small town Minnesota. Definitely a brohan. Definitely drove very slowly in the left hand lane and complained that professional sports changed for the worse the older he got. Loved crappy light beer and a good fish fry.

He did get to see me hit a home run playing town ball shortly before his health turned. That was pretty cool.

The Lakers are not the team you want to use as a litmus test for the state of defenses in today's NBA.

That has been true of the last 20 years. I don't think there is anything they could reasonably do to become a legitimate championship contender, short of fleecing some dumber team out of their assets, but I think they could reasonably make a couple moves along the margins to be a threat to win a playoff series.

James has been taking a lot of heat in the media for his play the last couple weeks, but the fact that they basically only have 6 NBA-level players (maaaybe 7 if/when Vanderbilt returns) - according to VORP, they have 3 players above replacement level (Davis, James, and Rui). So the good news is that improving substantially on the back of the rotation should be very doable. I'm really surprised they haven't be linked to Lonnie Walker. If they signed Walker and did something like Russell, Wood (or Hayes) and a large handful of 2nds (I think they have 5 available) for DFS and Schroeder, they would suddenly have almost a real rotation.

It's just the Wizards, but I love the announcing of Mark Followill. Gafford gets a block on one end, alley oop on the other.

"When the dog guards the yard, whaddya do? You THROW HIM A BONE!"

If it was for Russell, Vanderbilt, and Vincent plus a couple seconds, they should ****ing do it. That would be a huge upgrade and somehow better salary. It wouldn't solve their hilariously terrible bench though.

The Orlando Magic are the favorites to acquire De’Aaron Fox in a potential trade, per
@BovadaOfficial
Orlando Magic +400
Miami Heat +450
Houston Rockets +600
Denver Nuggets +700
LA Clippers +700
San Antonio Spurs +1000
Minnesota Timberwolves +1200
New Orleans Pelicans +1400
By the way, because of the 2nd apron the only way the Wolves could make this trade is by giving up Randle straight up for Fox. Which would be so epically stupid not even the Wolves would do it.

Oh boy, these Blazers are HORRIBLE. Down 30 to the worst team in professional sports.

Scoot Henderson over Amon Thompson will be the end for Joe Cronin. What a mistake.

I remember fans reacting crazy when the Hornets passed on Scoot, but I always thought his profile was likely to struggle in the NBA. He's only 20 still though.

Amen looks a lot better in the system he is in. If he were on the blazers and had to try to be a more focal point of the offense, you would not enjoy that either.

I was told Darvin Hamm was the problem with the Lakers. Not the problem?

Where is @msudaisy26 ?

I miss her wit.
Regarding the Lakers, Hamm sure seemed like part of the problem. So is giving Lebron and AD authority. But the biggest problem is Jeanie Buss is a godawful owner and Rob Pelinka doesn't know what he is doing. Since they traded for Westbrook, they've been struggling with their depth and just generally having an NBA team around Lebron and AD.

Some guys that they have had pass through since they won the title that would still have a rotation spot on the team that they either traded away or let walk - Dennis Schroder x2, KCP, Andre Drummond, Alex Caruso, Kyle Kuzma, Malik Monk (I mostly give them a pass here, I don't think they could have matched the Kings' offer), Jay Huff x2, Lonnie Walker, Scotty Pippen Jr x2, Malik Beasley, Taurean Prince, Spencer Dinwiddie. I think the only one of the whole group that they couldn't have retained was Monk. Everyone else was a choice that backfired.

I don't think the Nuggets are very good right now - just lost to the ****ing Wizards who have lost 16 straight. Jokic is, and I think Braun and Gordon are too, but the rest of the team is not bought in or something. They seem completely disconnected.
