2024-25 NBA Thread: Heat Culture allows them to hold loss amount under 60 (12 Viewers)

I think there’s a solid argument for Nicklaus. The biggest one being many think the competition was better with Jack - at least the top end guys. Field was deeper with Tiger and if he hadn’t shot himself in the foot he would definitely be - but I do think there’s an argument to be had.
Jack won 18 majors and finished runner up in 19. Tiger won 15 and came in second 7 times. People can debate who was better, who had a bigger impact, if the competition was better 25 years earlier, etc. Different times and different coverage of golf.

So who is on the 2028 Team USA that wasn't there this year to take Lebron, Curry, and KD spots? My bet is Embiid and White don't play again on the team either. Will Bam and AD still be able to play?

I think Maxey and Jalen Brown are likely. I am worried a Bronze at best is coming.
Zion? Cunningham? Paolo? Flagg? Jaren Jackson? Ja? Trae?

Brunson, Bam will be 31, so doable I'd think

Chet

Curry's 4th quarter was so much fun to watch. You could see the other guys were all about feeding him too. That last three he made was ridiculous.

Le Bron, what can you say? I think he's the best ever at this point.
I get that many don't like him, but anyone hating on him at this point just looks silly.
Most hyped athlete to ever actually live up to it and more?

He was seemingly the most hyped high school basketball player ever. What about Gretsky or any other top tier all time hockey player? Were they hyped at that level at high school age? I think Tiger hype started in college. What about tennis... did Serena or Federer or Nadal have hype at as young an age as Lebron? Interesting question.
Tiger is a good compare. He won 4 consecutive amateur championships from age 13-16 and was one of the most media hyped athletes of all-time. And similar to LeBron he’s the 2nd best ever at his sport. ;)
I know it's an obvious troll/bait, but I want to be on record that it's actually kind of ridiculous to not have Tiger as the golf GOAT. At least Jordan/LeBron is an argument where reasonable minds can disagree.

Agreed. When Phil Michelson, John Daly, and Sergio are your biggest challengers you kind of have it easy. That said, he dominated so much that better competition may not have made much of a difference.
:lmao: :lmao: Phil being easy competition :lmao:

Yeah - that’s my only point - that there’s a debate on golf GOAT.

Reading an article on this debate and found this funny.....

Tiger Woods has had to compete against the likes of Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh, Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Jim Furyk, and many other perennial PGA Tour winners.
But, Tiger has also had to compete against the likes of Rocco Mediate, Boo Weekly, Woody Austin, Hunter Mahan, Chad Campbell, Stephen Ames, J.B Holmes, Johnson Wagner, Ryuji Imada, Anthony Kim, Kenny Perry, and Chez Reavia.

Chet for sure -- good call. Flagg too. Will Zion ever be healthy enough to play a summer?

Here is my Gretzky story as he was a legend since he was a young kid…in many ways Bobby Orr was the first modern-day superstar meaning he was way better than the rest of his peers (yes there are others but that is another debate)…if you look at his point totals compared to other defensemen up till than they look like they are made up…he changed how the position was played and at least in New England he is responsible for a massive boom in the sport including the building of a ton of rinks…pretty much every sports bar in New England has or had the famous picture of his Stanley Cup winning goal hanging in their establishment…in 1975 my youth team hosted a team from Ontario…the kids and parents all talked about a kid they called “The Great One” saying he was gonna be as good as Bobby Orr…in 1975 this was complete idiocy and when they would talk about his stats they were so far off the charts no one believed them…fast-forward a couple of years and this “Great One” was a 17 year old (who was far from a physical specimen) now playing in the WHA and like Orr he went on a run of putting up silly stats that were just so far above other players…so while he may not have received the actual hype of LeBron because it was hockey in the early to mid 70’s Gretzky was on the radar at a very young age and more than lived up to the hype.

Homer pick but I think Jalen Williams is going to be close to the roster, others have already mentioned Chet. I think a team built around Booker and Tatum would still be substantial favorites. I don’t know a ton about young Euro players who aren’t in the NBA yet but you look at the rosters they brought this year and they aren’t exactly overflowing with young talent. Canada will continue to get better and should eventually become a clear #2 behind the US.

The emoji demonstrates it was meant as a half-joke, playful comment. No malice. Thus no reason to use words like “troll.” And hey, just like that two people chimed in to say it was at least debatable. Not sure why this post led to such a churlish reply.

I would think Brandon Miller gets in the mix if he keeps progressing. Would like to see more volume from deep and experience on the defense. On the Select Team this year, but it is really how comfortable he is off the ball that makes me think it could be a fit. See the role Booker played this year around so many ball-dominant players.

Not at that level at all now, just looking forward.

Reed Sheppard is tracking to fill in nicely for Curry imo. I also hear he refused to read Cliff Notes in High School so you really can't lose with him.

I think enough people have proven me wrong so not gonna argue, I submit!

Churlish - great word btw

They will still have the most talented roster in the world so I think they would still be the favourites to win it, although not by as much. They will also be on home soil which will have its advantages too.

12 of:
Edwards
Booker
Brunson
Mitchell
Tatum
Brown
Miller
Flagg
Bam
Zion
Chet
Banchero
Maxey
Halliburton

Canada isn't losing many key players, so I think they will be quite a good team too.
  • PG- Shai Gilgeous Alexander (30 years old)
  • SG- Jamal Murray (31 years old)
  • SF- RJ Barrett (28 years old)
  • PF- Andrew Wiggins (33 years old)
  • C- Zach Edey (26 years old)
  • PG- Shaedon Sharpe (25 years old)
  • Andrew Nembhard (28 years old
  • SG- Benedict Mathurin (26 years old
  • SF- Will Riley (20 years old
  • PF- Kelly Olynyk (37 years old)
  • PF- Lu Dort (29 years old)

Word of the day toilet paper ;)

Morant very well could headline the team in 4 years, but you guys keep forgetting him.
FWIW he was on the list I posted! xD

Tatum needs to be focusing on becoming the leader of the team 4 years from now. We're gonna have a core of like...

  • Tatum
  • Ant
  • Haliburton
  • Booker
  • Brunson
  • Paolo
  • Bam
Then idk but here are some guesses
  • maybe Davis still
  • Jaylen Brown
  • maybe Donovan Mitchell
  • maybe Cooper Flagg
  • elder statesman Steph
  • Chet
  • Ja Morant comeback
  • Trae Young
  • De'Aron Fox
  • Does Sabonis play for USA or Lithuania?
  • Maxey
  • JJJ
  • Mobley
  • Jarrett Allen
  • Jalen Green
  • maybe someone else who gets drafted in the upcoming draft
  • maybe Castle, Clingan, Sheppard, or Dillingham from this draft?

Going to be very interesting to see how things evolve. I'm assuming no LeBron, PG, Kawhi, Embiid, or KD in 4 years obviously any of that could be wrong too. Our bigs kinda suck.

Tatum could get a 3rd gold next Olympics.
1st time. 2nd most valuable player on the team.
2nd time. 2nd least valuable player on the team.
3rd time?

After Boston wins their third title and Mazzulla is the head coach of Team USA, I'll guess he will see significant playing time (along with Brown).

Embiid just did.

Jrue was the 2nd most valuable player on that Tokyo Olympic team by a country mile.
I assume the first is Lebron but you have Jrue next by a country mile?? Jrue was fantastic but I think Steph and KD have strong arguments for #2.

Booker was the unsung hero. But they don’t beat Serbia without Embiid and Curry and Curry won the gold basically. Good team leadership by the 3 legends though.

Why does everyone assume that neither Steph nor KD will be back? Have they said that, or are you assuming they will retire by then? Lebron just played at 39 and dominated. Who is to say that both of their games fall off so much that they would not be selected if they want it? Playing in front of US crowds in LA is a strong draw.

Same question for AD.

Why does everyone assume that neither White nor Jrue will be back? They both played great as role players. The US team needs players like that.

I assume Curry wouldn’t be back because replicating what he did in the past week would be almost impossible. Even if he wins another gold medal it’s probably cooler if that’s his only Olympics and he did that.

I would say there’s a better than even chance Lebron plays, only because it’s in LA.

Lebron and Bronny for the gold in 28?

Steph basically said he won't be back. I think even Mav Carter has said Lebron basically has 2 years left. KD is already the all-time scoring leader and just got to play with his best friends. I think a full passing of the torch is coming and I don't know who really is going to fill those shoes from the USA as far as leadership goes, but 4 years is a long time. Booker, Edwards, and Tatum with Maxey and Chet?

Flagg I would think has a shot at the next Olympics if they want to go the super young guy route, although I suppose he'd be younger than Ant was this year so maybe that's too young.

Anthony Davis is saying he wants to play in the 2028 olympics. Whether his skills and health hold up for 4 more years is less than certain.

I gotta say, I have a new found respect for Booker and Ant with how they handled themselves throughout the Olympics. Ant had fun, and produced when called upon. Booker did whatever was asked of him with a smile.
Ant seems like he would be a great guy to have in the locker room. Has a lot of fun but very supportive of his teammates

So my Olympic basketball hot take is this: Kerr & Spo had a secondary goal of messing with the Celtics chemistry and with how they chose to distribute the minutes and by keeping Brown off the team.

Hopefully it backfires and Boston just uses it as motivation to run roughshod through the league next season.

There is no real basketball explanation for Kerr not playing Tatum more.

I've never liked Kerr much and think he is kind of a dooshnogle anyway so maybe that + being a C's fan is clouding my judgement but how Tatum goes from a key piece in 2020 to barely getting minutes right AFTER winning a title as the best player on his team and earning a 3rd straight all-NBA is pretty baffling. He can play the 3 or 4 and even the 2, so having the "couldn't play him over LeBron or Durant" argument is ridiculous.

Getting 2 DNP's in the Olympics was straight BS. I really like Curry's game, but the combo of Draymond and Kerr has me smiling at the thought of the Warriors being irrelevant.
